InGaN based light emitting devices (LEDs) with asymmetric coupled quantum wells (AS-QWs) and conventional symmetric coupled quantum wells (CS-QWs) active structures were grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition technique. The LEDs with AS-QWs active region show improved light emission intensity and reduced forward voltage compared with LEDs with CS-QWs active region. Based on the electroluminescence measurements and the devices structure analysis, it can be concluded that these improvements are mainly attributed to the efficient hole tunneling through barriers and consequently the uniform distribution of carriers in the AS-QWs. We have theoretically investigated ballistic electron transport through a combination of magnetic-electric barrier based on a vertical ferromagnet/two-dimensional electron gas/ferromagnet sandwich structure, which can be experimentally realized by depositing asymmetric metallic magnetic stripes both on top and bottom of modulation-doped semiconductor heterostructures. Our numerical results have confirmed the existence of finite spin polarization even though only antisymmetric stray field B-z is considered. By switching the relative magnetization of ferromagnetic layers, the device in discussion shows evident magnetoconductance. In particular, both spin polarization and magnetoconductance can be efficiently enhanced by proper electrostatic barrier up to the optimal value relying on the specific magnetic-electric modulation. Coherent transport through a quantum dot embedded in one arm of a double-slit-like Aharonov-Bohm (AB) ring is studied using the Green's function approach. We obtain experimental observations such as continuous phase shift along a single resonance peak and sharp inter-resonance phase drop. The AB oscillations of the differential conductance of the whole device are calculated by using the nonequilibrium Keldysh formalism. It is shown that the oscillating conductance has a continuous bias-voltage-dependent phase shift and is asymmetric in both linear and nonlinear response regimes.

The differential isospin-fractionation (IsoF) during the liquid-gas phase transition in dilute asymmetric nuclear matter is studied as a function of nucleon momentum. Within a self-consistent thermal model it is shown that the neutron/proton ratio of the gas phase becomes smaller than that of the liquid phase for energetic nucleons, although the gas phase is overall more neutron-rich. Clear indications of the differential IsoF consistent with the thermal model predictions are demonstrated within a transport model for heavy-ion reactions. Future comparisons with experimental data will allow us to extract critical information about the momentum dependence of the isovector strong interaction.

We study the heat conduction of two nonlinear lattices joined by a weak harmonic link. When the system reaches a steady state, the heat conduction of the system is decided by the tunneling heat flow through the weak link. We present an analytical analysis by the combination of the self-consistent phonon theory and the heat tunneling transport formalism, and then the tunneling heat flow can be obtained. Moreover, the nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations are performed and the simulations results are consistent with the analytical predictions.
