Silica-supported molybdenum surface complexes were prepared by the reaction between (N=) Mo(OtBu)(3) and silica via displacement of the tert-butoxy ligands for siloxyls from the silica surface. The structure of the surface molybdenum complexes was well defined by in-situ FT-IR, elemental analysis, H-1 NMR and C-13 CP/MAS NMR techniques. The surface complexes could undergo alcoholysis reaction with CD3OD and CH3OH in the same way as free (N =) Mo(OtBu)(3) and they show high catalytic activity and selectivity in olefin epoxidation. Initial rates up to 24.9 mmol epoxide (mmol Mo)(-1) min(-1) were achieved in the epoxidation of cyclohexene using TBHP as oxidant.

MnAPO-11 and MnAPSO-11 were synthesized hydrothermally, and supported Mn-AlPO-11 and Mn-SAPO-11 were also prepared for comparison. Characterization results showed that there were differences in acidity and reducibility caused by the different incorporation methods of manganese. The manganese species in the samples also weakened the metallic properties of the palladium particles when the latter was added into the catalysts. Catalytic testing results for dehydroisomerization of n-butane indicated that incorporation of manganese increased the selectivity toward isomerization products. The highest isobutene selectivity (34.86%) could be obtained over a Pd/MnAPO-11 catalyst. When a combined catalyst system containing Pd/SAPO-11 and MnAPSO-11 was used in a single bed of two layers, the isobutene selectivity could be greatly improved, as compared to the single catalyst alone.

Performance of palladium-containing supported catalysts in the oxidation of 1-butene was investigated in a fixed-bed flow microreactor. The Pd-Fe-HCl/Ti-Al catalyst is the best among the five Pd-Fe-HCl/X (A = SiO2, gamma-Al2O3, Al-Ti, TiO2, MCM-22) catalysts for the oxidation of I-butene to butanone. It is interesting that high propionic acid selectivity can be obtained when V and H2SO4 are added to the palladium-containing supported catalysts.

This article reports an analytical method for separating, identifying and quantitating sulfur-containing compounds and their groups in diesel oils (170-400degreesC) using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with a sulfur chemiluminescence detector. The identification of target compounds and their groups was based on standard substances, the group separation feature and the-effect of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography. The quantitative analysis on major sulfur compounds and total sulfur was carried out based on the linear response of sulfur chemiluminescence detector and the internal standards method. The results of total sulfur determination in the samples were compared with those from ASTM D 4294 standard method, the R.S.D. percentage were <6.02%, correctness of this method can meet the industrial requirement. To the end, the method developed was used to investigate the sulfur-containing compounds in different diesel oils, the result shows that the distribution of sulfur-containing compounds in diesel oils from different process units are apparently different. The sulfur compounds in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC), residuum fluid catalytic cracking (RFCC) diesel oils mainly exist in the form of alkyl-substituted dibenzothiophenes that add up to about 40-50% of the total sulfur, while this number is only 6-8 and 20-28% in visbreaking (VB) and delayed-coking (DC) diesel oils, respectively. Peptide mass mapping analysis, utilizing a regenerable enzyme microreactor with metal-ion chelated adsorption of enzyme, combined with matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) was developed. Different procedures from the conventional approaches were adopted to immobilize the chelator onto the silica supports, that is, the metal chelating agent of iminodiacetic acid (IDA) was reacted with glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GLYMO) before its immobilization onto the inner wall of the fused-silica capillary pretreated with NH4HF2. The metal ion of copper and subsequently enzyme was specifically adsorbed onto the surface to form the immobilized enzyme capillary microreactor, which was combined with MALDI-TOF-MS to apply for the mass mapping analysis of nL amounts of protein samples. The results revealed that the peptide mapping could routinely be generated from 0.5 pmol protein sample in 15 min at 50degreesC, even 20 fmol cytochrome c could be well digested and detected.

It is shown that near-Nernstian calibration slopes can be obtained with a Cu1.8Se electrode in a range of cupric ion buffers in spite of a high chloride content. Best results are obtained with the ligands ethylenediamine, glycine and histidine. The onset of cupric ion toxicity towards marine organisms falls within the pCu calibration range obtained with glycine, and the Cu1.8Se electrode could, therefore, be useful for monitoring cupric ion activity in bioassays in sea-water media.

The novel (E,E)-dioxime, 5,6:17,18-dibenzo-11,12-(4-nitrobenzo)-2,3-bis(hydroxyimino)-7,16-dithia-10,13-dioxa-1,4-diazacyclooctadecane) (H2L), has been synthesized from reaction of (E,E)-dichloroglyoxime (1) with 2,3:14,15-dibenzo 8,9-(4-nitrobenzo)-4,13-dithia-7,10-dioxa-1,16-diazahegzadecane (2). The mononuclear Co(III) complex (4) of this dioxime was prepared by oxidation of the cobalt (II) complex. The -capped Co(III) complex (5) was synthesized by using a precursor Co(III) complex and boron trifluoride dietherate. The heterotrinuclear complexes (6) and (7) were prepared by reaction of (5) with NiCl2·6H2O and CdCl2·H2O, respectively. In addition, the homotrinuclear Cu(II) complex (8), has also been prepared by the reaction of this dioxime with CuCl2·H2O. The structures of the dioxime and its complexes were identified by using elemental analysis, 1H- and 13C-NMR, IR, and mass spectral data.

New carbazole-based polymers, which contain various content of electro-active fragments in the main chain connected via alkylene spacers, have been synthesized by Ni(0)-catalyzed Yamamoto-type aryl-aryl coupling reactions. These compounds represent amorphous materials of high thermal stability with glass-transition temperatures of 139-151 degrees C and thermal decomposition starting at temperatures above 400 degrees C. UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence emission spectra of the materials confirmed that the conjugated segments in the macromolecules are rather short.

A novel catalyst system based on nickel(II) tetraphenylporphyrin (Ni(II)TPP) and methylaluminoxane for styrene polymerization was developed. This catalyst system has a high thermal stability and show fairly good activity. The obtained polystyrene (PS) was isotactic-rich atactic polymer by C-13 NMR analysis, and its molecular weight distribution was rather narrow (M-w/M-n approximate to 1.6, by GPC analysis). ESR revealed that Ni(II)TPP pi cation radicals were formed in the polymerization and could remain in the resulting PS stably. The mechanism of the polymerization was discussed and a special coordination mechanism was proposed. The PS product containing Ni(II)TPP pi cation radicals can be used as a potential functional material.
