Influence of core property on multi-electron process in the collisions of q = 6-9 and 11 isocharged sequence ions with Ne is investigated in the keV/u region The cross-section ratios of double-, triple-, quadruple- and total multi-electron processes to the single electron capture process as well as the partial ratios of different reaction channels to the relevant multi-electron process are measured by using position-sensitive and time-of-flight techniques The experimental data are compared with the theoretical predictions including the extended classical over-barrier model, the molecular Columbic barrier model and the semi-empirical scaling law Results show a core effect on multi-electron process of isocharge ions colliding with Neon, which is consistent with the results of Helium we obtained previously

A novel poly-l-arginine microcapsule was prepared due to its nutritional function and pharmacological efficacy. A high-voltage electrostatic droplet generator was used to make uniform microcapsules. The results show that the membrane strength and permeating property are both remarkably affected with the changes of sodium alginate concentration. With the sodium alginate concentration increasing, gel beads sizes increase from 233 mum to 350 mum, release ratio is also higher at the same time, but the membrane strength decreases.

Ce1-XNiXO2 oxides with X varying from 0.05 to 0.5 were prepared by different methods and characterized by XRD and TPR techniques. Ce(0.7)Mi(0.3)O(2) sample prepared by sol-gel method shows the highest reducibility and the highest catalytic activity for methane combustion. Three kinds of Ni phases co-exist in the Ce1-XNiXO2 catalysts prepared by sol-gel method: (i) aggregated NiO on the support CeO2, (ii) highly dispersed NiO with strong interaction with CeO2 and (iii) Ni atoms incorporated into CeO2 lattice. The distribution of different Ni species strongly depends on the preparation methods. The highly dispersed NiO shows the highest activity for methane combustion. The NiO aggregated on the support CeO2 shows lower catalytic activity for methane combustion, while the least catalytic activity is found for the Ni species incorporated into CeO2. Any oxygen vacancy formed in CeO2 lattice due to the incorporating of Ni atoms adsorbs and activates the molecular oxygen to form active oxygen species. So the highest catalytic activity for methane combustion on Ce0.7Ni0.3O2 catalyst is attributed not only to the highly dispersed Ni species but also to the more active oxygen species formed. The structural properties for various SiCO isomers in the singlet and triplet states have been investigated using CASSCF methods with a 6-311 +G* basis set and also using three DFT and MP2 with same basis set for those systems except for the linear singlet state. The detailed bonding character is discussed, and the state-state correlations and the isomerization mechanism are also determined. Results indicate that there are four different isomers for each spin state, and for all isomers, the triplet state is more stable than the corresponding singlet state. The most stable is the linear SiCO ((3)Sigma(-)) species and may be refer-red to the ground state. At the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level, the state-state energy separations of the other triplet states relative to the ground state are 43.2 (cyclic), 45.2 (linear SiOC), and 75.6 kcal/mol (linear CSiO), respectively, whereas the triplet-singlet state excitation energies for each configuration are 17.3 (linear SiCO), 2.2 (cyclic SiCO), 10.2 (linear SiOC), and 18.5 kcal/mol (linear CSiO), respectively. SiCo ((3)Sigma(-)) may be classified as silene (carbonylsilene), and its COdelta- moiety possesses CO- property. The dissociation energy of the ground state is 42.5 kcal/mol at the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level and falls within a range of 36.5-41.5 kcal/mol at DFT level, and of 23.7-28.9 kcal/mol at the wave function-correlated level, whereas the vertical IP is 188.8 kcal/mol at the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level and is very close to the first IP of Si atom. Three linear isomers (SiCO, SiOC, and CSiO) have similar structural bonding character. SiOC may be referred to the iso-carbonyl Si instead of the aether compound, whereas the CSiO isomer may be considered as the combination of C (the analogue of Si) with SiO (the analogue of CO). The bonding is weak for all linear species, and the corresponding potential energy surfaces are flat, and thus these linear molecules are facile. Another important isomer is of cyclic structure, it may be considered as the combination of CO with Si by the side pi bond. This structure has the smallest triplet state-singlet state excitation energy (similar to2.2 kcal/mol); the C-O bonds are longer, and the corresponding vibrational frequencies are significantly smaller than those of the other linear species. This cyclic species is not classified as an epoxy compound. State-state correlation analysis and the isomerization pathway searches have indicated that there are no direct correlations among three linear structures for each spin state, but they may interchange by experiencing two transition states and one cyclic intermediate. The easiest pathway is to break the Si-O bond to go to the linear SiCO, but its inverse process is very difficult. The most difficult process is to break the C-O bond and to go to the linear CSiO.

The microenvironment of the aqueous core phase in the black soap film of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide with the anionic dye Brilliant Yellow as spectral probe has been studied by UV-vis spectroscopy. Under neutral and basic conditions, the dye aggregates in the films exist as both the acid and base forms in contrast to a preference of the base form in the bulk solutions. The specific property of black soap film, that the intrinsic pH value of the aqueous core phase insensitively responds to pH changes of the bulk solution, is directly observed through UV-vis spectra.

Agenda 21, the 40-chapter action plan, agreed to by all nations participating in the 1992 Earth Summit represents an ambitious effort to provide policy guidance across the entire spectrum of environment, development, and social issues confronting mankind. In the area of oceans and coasts (Chapter 17 of Agenda 21), the Earth Summit underscored that the management of oceans and coasts should be ‘integrated in content and anticipatory in ambit.’ To assist those responsible for implementing the Earth Summit guidelines on ocean and coastal management, this article first reviews the fundamental shift in paradigm reflected in the Earth Summit agreements as well as the specific recommendations contained in Chapter 17. Next, the article examines the central concept of ‘integrated management,’ noting both its importance and its limits. A general or ‘synthesis’ model of ‘integrated coastal management’ is then presented, addressing such questions as management goals, what is being managed, where, how, and by whom. In a concluding section, methods are proposed whereby the general or ‘synthesis model’ can be tailored to diverse national contexts, involving varying physical, socio-economic, and political conditions.

The Mg-8.31Gd-1.12Dy-0.38Zr (mass%) alloy was prepared by casting technology, and the microstructure, age hardening behavior and mechanical property have been investigated. It is noted that the alpha-Mg and the different Mg-RE (RE = Gd/Dy) compounds are subsistent in the as-cast and annealed state samples. The age hardening behavior is observed during the investigated temperature range, and the alloy exhibits high Vickers hardness, excellent ultimate tensile strength and yield strength at peak hardness.

Novel three-dimensional (3D) flowerlike MnWO4 micro/nanocomposite structure has been successfully synthesized for the first time. The synthesized products were systematically studied by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. It is found that both reaction time and temperature have significant effects on the morphology of the products.

Porous SnO2 and SnO2-Eu3+ nanorods have been facilely prepared using triphenyltin hydroxide microrods as precursors. The porous structure of SnO2 nanorods, which was aggregated by small SnO2 nanocrystallites, has been confirmed by TEM images and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The optical property of the porous SnO2-Eu3+ nanorods was investigated by UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra.

Hollow deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)/poly-L-lysine (PLL) capsules were successfully fabricated through a layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly of DNA and PLL on porous CaCO3 microparticles, followed by removal of templates with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA). The enzymatic degradation of the capsules in the presence of alpha-chymotrypsin was explored. The higher the enzyme concentration, the higher is the degradation rate of hollow capsules. in addition, glutaric dialdehyde (GA) cross-linking was found to be another way to manipulate degradation rate of hollow capsules.

Sphere NH4Y1.9Eu0.1F7 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method at 180 degrees C for 10 h. SEM and TEM images show the particles are spheres and have lots of hollows in them. The mean particle size is about 60 nm. The shape and size of the particles can be controlled by changing temperature and time of reactants. The luminescent property of the sample indicates that strong emission peaks of the Eu3+ ions are located at about 589 and 612 mm.
