Synthesis and characterisation of novel functional polyolefin containing sulfonic acid groups

The strong polar group, sulfonic acid, has successfully been introduced into ethylene/allylbenzene copolymers without degradation or crosslinking via chlorosulfonation reaction with chlorosulfonic acid as a chlorosulforiating agent in 1, 1,2,2-tetrachloroethane followed by hydrolysis. The degree of sulforiation (DS) can be easily controlled by changing the ratio of chlorosulfonic acid to the pendant phenyls of the copolymer. The microstructure of sulfonated copolymers were unambiguously revealed by H-1 NMR and H-1-H-1 COSY spectral analyses, which indicates that all the sulforiation reactions exclusively took place at the para-position of the aromatic rings.

CO_2在TiO_2-CuO修饰Cu电极上的光电化学还原

制备了TiO2-CuO修饰Cu电极,并对CO2在该复合光电电极上的还原行为进行了研究。光电化学测试表明,TiO2有助于电极的光电转换,能注入更多的电子促进CO2还原。TiO2-CuO/Cu复合电极在光照条件下对CO2具有很好的光电催化还原活性,使还原电位正移约100 mV,同时有效地抑制了水的光电分解。Mott-Schottky曲线测定表明,TiO2-CuO/Cu复合电极具有n型半导体性质,其平带电位随光照时间的增加而负移。光谱及色质谱测试证明,CO2在TiO2-CuO/Cu复合电极上的光电化学还原产物为甲酸和甲醛,还有少量乙烯和甲烷。在-1.2 V条件下光照3 h,CO2的转化率可达32%。基于实验结果对CO2光电还原机理进行了推断。

Hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of bimetallic cluster complex [{Mn(phen)(2)}(2)V4O12]center dot 1/2 H2O

A new bimetallic cluster complex with the formula [(Mn(phen)(2))(2)V4O12].1/2 H2O has been synthesized through hydrothermal reaction of vanadate staring material with manganese cation in the presence of nitrogen donor chelating ligand and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR UV-vis, ESR spectrum and thermal analysis. The compound crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c with a = 18.475(4) Angstrom, b = 11.473(2) Angstrom, c = 23.667(5) Angstrom, beta = 97.76(3)degrees, V = 4971(2) Angstrom(3) and Z = 4. The structure of [{Mn(phen)(2)}(2)V4O12].1/2 H2O is composed of a discrete V4O124- cluster covalently attached to two [Mn(phen)(2)](2+) fragments.

Stimulated emission in the film of polymer/dye blend

Optically pumped stimulated emission behavior in an organic film was demonstrated in this study. The gain material consists of a laser dye perylene doped into polystyrene (PS) matrix in an appropriate weight ratio. The sample was transversely pumped by the three harmonic output of a mode-locked Nd:YAG laser. The change of the emission spectra showed a clear threshold action and gain narrowing phenomenon when increasing the excitation intensity. Three emission peaks were observed below the excitation threshold, which are locate at 446, 475 and 506 nm, respectively. However, only the gain narrowing peak centered at 475 nm could be detected above the threshold. The spectra narrowing observed results from the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in the gain material. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Synthesis and thermal polymerization of a novel stilbene-maleimide AB-monomer

A novel AB-monomer, 3-maleimidostilbene (ST-MAI), was synthesized. DSC investigation indicated that the ST-MAI monomer melted at 127 degrees C and thermally polymerized in the temperature range of 180 similar to 300 degrees C. LR investigation on the thermal polymerization processes proved that the thermal polymerization included not only copolymerizaiton between stilbene and maleimide, but also homopolymerization of maleimide. The largest reaction conversion of maleimide and stilbene unit in a ST-MAI monomer was about 82% and 50% respectively. The glass transition temperature of cured ST-MAI resin was 234 degrees C, determined by DSC. The decomposition temperatures for 10% weight loss was above 430 degrees C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres.

Crystal structure and drawing-induced polymorphism in poly(aryl ether ether ketone). IV

A new crystal modification induced by strain and denoted as form II exists alongside the dominant form I structure in the uniaxially oriented poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and the related polymers. The crystal structure of form II for PEEK is also found to possess a two-chain orthorhombic packing with unit cell parameters of a equal to 0.475 nm, b equal to 1.060 nm, and c equal to 1.086 nm. More extended and flattened chain conformation of form II relative to that of form I is expected to account for an 8% increase in c-axis dimension, which is attributed to the extensional deformation fixed in situ through strain-induced crystallization during uniaxial drawing. Annealing experiments suggest that form II is thermodynamically metastable and can be transformed into more stable form I by chain relaxation and reorganization at elevated temperature without external tension. This strain-induced polymorphism exists universally in the poly(aryl ether ketone) family. (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Vibrational spectra and structure of zinc phthalocyanine

Semi-empirical molecular orbital calculations using PM3 Hamiltonian were employed to determine qualitative assignments of the vibrational spectrum of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc). The assignments are from the potential energy distribution calculations in the normal coordinate analysis and optimized geometry in the PM3 calculations. Dimerization of hydroxylated species of m-aminophenol by cytochrome c with hydrogen peroxide

The cytochrome c and hydrogen peroxide-dependent oxidation of m-aminophenol was investigated by electrochemistry and spectrophotometry. The results indicated that the hydroxylated species of m-aminophenol have at least two conjugated substituted groups on the ring system (most possibly, its oxidized form 2-hydroxy-4-iminoquinone), and that the degradation of cytochrome c by hydrogen peroxide can also be prevented in the presence of m-aminophenol. The hydroxyl radical scavengers, mannitol and sodium benzoate, almost completely eliminate the hydroxylation of m-aminophenol. But oxo-heme species scavenger, uric acid, does not inhibit the hydroxylation. Combining the results of mass spectrum, nuclear magnetic resonance and element analysis with that of spectrophotometry, electrochemistry and chemical scavengers, it is suggested that cytochrome c may act as a peroxidase, which facilitates the hydroxylation and subsequent dimerization of m-aminophenol. Photoluminescence study of Langmuir-Blodgett films of blend poly 3-(2-(5-chlorobenzotriazole)ethyl) thiophene

The multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of pr,ly 3-(2-(5-chlorobenzotriazole)ethyl) thiophene (PCBET) blended with amphibious arachidic acid (AA) were prepared and characterized. The photoluminescence intensity of the blend film was enhanced as the AA increased by a certain amount. The PCBET excimers were not formed in the blend LB films.

光电流光谱技术与原子荧光法联用测定激光波长

激光波长仪可在一定精度内测定激光波长,但在激光光谱学和激光分离同位素的应用研究中,不能保证测得的波长已与原子的某一跃迁共振。而光电流光谱技术恰好具有及时地反映这种共振的性能,激光激发原子荧光法的应用又为复杂原子谱线的认定提供准确可靠的依据。我们联用这两种技术简便快速而又准确无误地分别测定了与铀、镧原子一些非精细结构高分辨谱线中某一成分共振的激光波长。

beta-catenin in early development of the lancelet embryo indicates specific determination of embryonic polarity

The lancelet (amphioxus) embryo develops from a miolecithal egg and starts gastrulation when it is approximately 400 cells in size, in a fashion similar to that of some non-chordate deuterostomes. Throughout this type of gastrulation, the embryo develops characteristics such as the notochord and hollow nerve cord that commonly appear in chordates. beta-Catenin is an important factor in initiating body patterning. The behavior and developmental pattern of this protein in early lancelet development was examined in this study. Cytoplasmic beta-catenin was localized to the animal pole after fertilization and then was incorporated asymmetrically into the blastomeres during the first cleavage. Asymmetric distribution was observed at least until the 32-cell stage. The first nuclear localization was at the 64-cell stage, and involved all of the cells. At the initial gastrula stage, however, concentrated beta-catenin was found on the dorsal side. LiCl treatment affected the asymmetric pattern of beta-catenin during the first cleavage. LiCl also changed distribution of nuclear beta-catenin at the initial gastrula stage: distribution extended to cells on the animal side. Apparently associated with this change, expression domains of goosecoid, lhx3 and otx also changed to a radially symmetric pattern centered at the animal pole. However, LiCl-treated embryos were able to establish embryonic polarity. The present study suggests that in the lancelet embryo, polarity determination is independent of dorsal morphogenesis.
