The redox-induced conformational equilibrium of cytochrome c (cyt c) adsorbed on DNA-modified metal electrode and the interaction mechanism of DNA with cyt c have been studied by electrochemical, spectroscopic and spectroelectrochemical techniques. The results indicate that the external electric field induces potential-dependent coordination equilibrium of the adsorbed cyt c between its oxidized state (with native six-coordinate low-spin and non-native five-coordinate high-spin heme configuration) and its reduced state (with native six-coordinate low-spin heme configuration) on DNA-modified metal electrode. The strong interactions between DNA and cyt c induce the self-aggregation of cyt c adsorbed on DNA. The orientational distribution of cyt c adsorbed on DNA-modified metal electrode is potential-dependent, which results in the deviation from an ideal Nernstian behavior of the adsorbed cyt c at high electrode potentials. The electric-field-induced increase in the activation barrier of proton-transfer steps attributed to the rearrangement of the hydrogen bond network and the self-aggregation of cyt c upon adsorption on DNA-modified electrode strongly decrease the interfacial electron transfer rate.

Both bare and self-assembled monolayer (SAM) protected gold substrate could be etched by allyl bromide according to atomic force microscopy (AFM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric (ICPMS) analysis results. With this allyl bromide ink material, negative nanopatterns could be fabricated directly by dip-pen nanolithography (DPN) on SAMs of 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHA) on Au(111) substrate. A tip-promoted etching mechanism was proposed where the gold-reactive ink could penetrate the MHA resist film through tip-induced defects resulting in local corrosive removal of the gold substrate. The fabrication mechanism was also confirmed by electrochemical characterization, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis and fabrication of positive nanopatterns via a used DPN tip.

In this work, a new capping agent, cinnamic acid ( CA) was used to synthesize Au nanoparticles (NPs) under ambient conditions. The size of the NPs can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of reductant ( in our experiment sodium borohydride was used) or CA. The CA-stabilized Au NPs can self-assemble into 'nanowire-like' or 'pearl-necklace-like' nanostructures by adjusting the molar ratio of CA to HAuCl4 or by tuning the pH value of the Au colloidal solution. The process of Au NPs self-assembly was investigated by UV - vis spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results reveal that the induced dipole - dipole interaction is the driving force of Au NP linear assemblies.

The effects of self-seeding nucleation on the crystallization behavior and properties of polypropylene (iPP) were studied. DSC results indicated that the crystallization temperature of iPP increased obviously after the process of self-seeding nucleation. The results of polarized fight microscopy showed that the spherulite size decreased markedly, as a result, the mechanical properties and the transparency of iPP were all improved.

Poly(phenylenesulfidephenylenamine)(PPSA) an alternating copolymer and the hybrid structure of poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) and polyaniline(PAn), was synthesized by self-polycondensation of methyl-(4-anilino-phenyl) sulfide with antimony pentachloride and by the acid-induced self-polycondensation of methyl-(4-anilino-phenyl) sulfoxide.

The ion-molecule reactions in acetone were investigated which were induced under the chemical ionization. The structural information of the reaction products were obtained by using collision-induced dissociation (CID) technique performed at ion kinetic energies of 30eV.

Aimed at raising the room temperature ionic conductivity of PEO-based solid polymer electrolyte and considered that the ionic conduction preferentially occurs in the amorphous phase, we lightly crosslinked the high MW PEO through gamma-irradiation and further suppressed the residual crystallinity by plasticizing with propylene carbonate. By incorporating LiClO4 salt to the above described polymer host, the ambient (25 degrees C) ionic conductivity of the electrolyte system could reach as high as 6.8 X 10(-4) S/cm. As the electrolyte was a crosslinked system, it was mechanically self-supportable. Based on the preliminary results of the electrochemical performance of the secondary lithium battery, assembled by using this kind of solid electrolyte and polyaniline as positive electrode, it is realized that the electrolyte thus prepared is of high expectancy.
