The alpha-decay half-lives of nuclei in the ground states and Isomeric states have been calculated within the WKB approximation and Royer's formulas. The barrier in the quasimolecular shape path is determined within a generalized liquid drop model (GLDM). in which the centrifugal potential energy has been introduced to study the unfavored a-decay The agreement between the calculated results and experimental data indicates the reliability of studying alpha-decay of isomeric states with the generalized liquid drop model We find that their is no significant difference of preformation probability between Isomeric states and the corresponding ground states generally in favored alpha-decay Additionally. we extended Royer's formulas by taking account of the role of centrifugal harrier to study the unfavored alpha-decay, and some predicts oil the a decay half-lives of Isomers are made Finally. the effects of angular momontum transfer and Q(alpha) on alpha-decay half-life have been discussed Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier B.V. We studied the characteristic X-ray spectra produced by the interaction of highly charged ions of X-129(q+) (q =25, 26, 27) with surface of metallic Mo. The experimental result shows that highly charged ions can excite the characteristic X-ray spectra of L-shell of Mo when the beam' s intensity is not more than 120 nA. The X-ray yield of single ion reaches a quantitative level of 10(-8) and increases with the increment of the ion' s kinetic energy and ionic charge (potential energy). By measuring the X-ray spectra of Mo-L alpha(1) the M-level lifetime of Mo atom is estimated by using Heisenberg uncertainty relation.

Vibronic excitations of the tri-atomic molecule OClO (A(2)A(2)(nu(1), nu(2), nu(3)) <-- (XB1)-B-2 (0, 0, 0)) with weak and strong ultra-short laser fields are studied within full quantum wavepacket dynamics in hyperspherical coordinates. Different dynamics is observed following excitation with laser pulses of different intensities. With a strong laser pulse, many vibrational states are excited and a spatially more localised wavepacket arises. The numerical results show that the population of different vibrational states of the wavepacket on the excited potential energy surface is altered by the intensity of the laser pulse. The numerical results also suggest a related effect on the phase of the wavepacket. These interesting phenomena can be understood by an analysis of the corresponding results for two model diatomic molecules. The possible physical mechanisms of control of chemical processes using strong laser fields are discussed. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The dissociation and isomerization reaction mechanism on the ground-state potential energy surface for CH2ClI are investigated by ab initio calculations. It is found that the isomer iso-CH2I-Cl can be produced from either the recombination of the photodissociation. fragments or the isomerization reaction of CH2ClI, rather than from isomerization reaction of iso-CH2Cl-I. Further explanations of experimental results are also presented. (C) 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The paper presents a theoretical study of the dynamics of the H + HCl system on the potential energy surface (PES) of Bian and Werner (Bian, W.; Werner, H. -J., J. Chem. Phys. 2000, 112, 220). A time-dependent wave packet approach was employed to calculate state-to-state reaction probabilities for the exchanged and abstraction channels. The most recent PES for the system has been used in the calculations. Reaction probabilities have also been calculated for several values of the total angular momentum J > 0. Those have then been used to estimate cross sections and rate constants for both channels. The calculated cross sections can be compared with the results of previous quasiclassical trajectory calculations and reaction dynamics experimental on the abstraction channel. In addition, the calculated rate constants are in the reasonably good agreement with experimental measurement.

The reactions of (1) CH4 + MgO --> MgOH. + CH3. and (2) CH4 + MgO --> Mg + CH3OH have been studied on the singlet spin state potential energy surface at the MP2/6-311+G(2d,2p) level. These two reaction channels, both involving intermediates and transition states, have been rationalized by the structures of the species involved, natural bond orbital (NBO), and vibrational frequency analysis. We have considered two initial interacting models between CH4 and MgO: a collinear C-H approach to the O end of the MgO forming the MgOCH4 complex with C-3nu symmetry and three hydrogen atoms of the methane point to the Mg end of the MgO forming the OMgCH4 complex with C-1 symmetry. The calculations predict that reactions 1 and 2 are exothermic by 39.8 and 86.5 kJ mol(-1), respectively. Also, the former reaction proceeds more easily than the latter, and the complex HOMgCH3 is energetically preferred in the reaction of MgO + CH4.

Molybdenum phosphide (MoP) and supported molybdenum phosphide (MoP/gamma-Al2O3) have been prepared by the temperature-programmed reduction method. The surface sites of the MoP/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst were characterized by carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption with in situ Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. A characteristic IR band at 2037 cm(-1) was observed on the MoP/gamma-Al2O3 that was reduced at 973 K. This band is attributed to linearly adsorbed CO on Mo atoms of the MoP surface and is similar to IR bands at 2040-2060 cm(-1), which correspond to CO that has been adsorbed on some noble metals, such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Density functional calculations of the structure of molybdenum phosphides, as well as CO chemisorption on the MoP(001) surface, have also been studied on periodic surface models, using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the exchange-correlation functional. The results show that the chemisorption of CO on MoP occurred mainly on top of molybdenum, because the bonding of CO requires a localized mininum potential energy. The adsorption energy obtained is DeltaH(ads) approximate to -2.18 eV, and the vibrational frequency of CO is 2047 cm-1, which is in good agreement with the IR result of CO chernisorption on MoP/gamma-Al2O3.

Accurate three-dimensional time-dependent quantum wave packet calculations for the N+OH reaction on the (3)A' potential energy surface [Guadagnini, Schatz, and Walch, J. Chem. Phys. 102, 774 (1995)] have been carried out. The calculations show for the first time that the initial state-selected reaction probabilities are dominated by resonance structures, and the lifetime of the resonance is generally in the subpicosecond time scale. The calculated reaction cross sections indicate that they are a decreasing function of the translational energy, which is in agreement qualitatively with the quasiclassical trajectory calculations. The rate constants obtained from the quantum mechanical calculations are consistent with the quasiclassical trajectory results and the experimental measurements. The effects of the transition dipole moment function (TDMF) on the dynamics Of O-3 photodissociation in the Hartley band have been exploited by means of exact 3D time-dependent wavepacket method using the SW potential energy surface [J. Chem. Phys. 78 (1983) 7191]. The calculations show that the explicit inclusion of the TDMF results in slight uniform reductions for the intensities of recurrence peaks of the autocorrelation function and a slight broadening of the absorption spectrum, in comparison with the result where the TDMF is assumed to be constant. The pattern of recurrence structures of the autocorrelation function is essentially unaffected. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The density function theory was used to calculate the potential energy surface for the decomposition of CF3OF. The geometries, vibrational frequencies and energies of all stationary points were obtained. The calculated harmonic frequencies agreed well with the experimental ones. Three decomposition channels of CF3OF were studied. The calculated reaction enthalpy (29.85 kcal/mol) of the elimination reaction CF3OF --> CF2O + F-2 was in good agreement with the experimental value (27.7 kcal/mol). The O-F bond of CF3OF is broken easily by comparing the energies, while the decomposition channel to yield the CF30 and F radicals is the main reaction path. The structural properties for various SiCO isomers in the singlet and triplet states have been investigated using CASSCF methods with a 6-311 +G* basis set and also using three DFT and MP2 with same basis set for those systems except for the linear singlet state. The detailed bonding character is discussed, and the state-state correlations and the isomerization mechanism are also determined. Results indicate that there are four different isomers for each spin state, and for all isomers, the triplet state is more stable than the corresponding singlet state. The most stable is the linear SiCO ((3)Sigma(-)) species and may be refer-red to the ground state. At the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level, the state-state energy separations of the other triplet states relative to the ground state are 43.2 (cyclic), 45.2 (linear SiOC), and 75.6 kcal/mol (linear CSiO), respectively, whereas the triplet-singlet state excitation energies for each configuration are 17.3 (linear SiCO), 2.2 (cyclic SiCO), 10.2 (linear SiOC), and 18.5 kcal/mol (linear CSiO), respectively. SiCo ((3)Sigma(-)) may be classified as silene (carbonylsilene), and its COdelta- moiety possesses CO- property. The dissociation energy of the ground state is 42.5 kcal/mol at the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level and falls within a range of 36.5-41.5 kcal/mol at DFT level, and of 23.7-28.9 kcal/mol at the wave function-correlated level, whereas the vertical IP is 188.8 kcal/mol at the CASSCF-MP2(full)/6-311+G* level and is very close to the first IP of Si atom. Three linear isomers (SiCO, SiOC, and CSiO) have similar structural bonding character. SiOC may be referred to the iso-carbonyl Si instead of the aether compound, whereas the CSiO isomer may be considered as the combination of C (the analogue of Si) with SiO (the analogue of CO). The bonding is weak for all linear species, and the corresponding potential energy surfaces are flat, and thus these linear molecules are facile. Another important isomer is of cyclic structure, it may be considered as the combination of CO with Si by the side pi bond. This structure has the smallest triplet state-singlet state excitation energy (similar to2.2 kcal/mol); the C-O bonds are longer, and the corresponding vibrational frequencies are significantly smaller than those of the other linear species. This cyclic species is not classified as an epoxy compound. State-state correlation analysis and the isomerization pathway searches have indicated that there are no direct correlations among three linear structures for each spin state, but they may interchange by experiencing two transition states and one cyclic intermediate. The easiest pathway is to break the Si-O bond to go to the linear SiCO, but its inverse process is very difficult. The most difficult process is to break the C-O bond and to go to the linear CSiO.

The angular momentum polarization and rotational state distributions of the H-2 and HCl products from the H + HCl reaction are calculated at a relative translational energy of 1.6 eV by using quasiclassical trajectories on two potential energy surfaces, one from G3 surface [T.C. Allison et al., J. Phys. Chem. 100 (1996) 13575], and the other from BW2 surface [W. Bian, H.-J. Werner, J. Chem. Phys. 112 (2000) 220]. Product rotational distributions obtained on the G3 potential energy surface (PES) are much closer to the experimental results (P.M. Aker et al., J. Chem. Phys. 90 (1989) 4795; J. Chem. Phys. 90 (1989) 4809) than the distributions calculated on the BW2 PES. The distributions of P(phi(r)) for the H-2 and HCl products obtained on the G3 PES are similar, whereas the rotational alignment effect of the H-2 product is stronger than that of the HCl product. In contrast to the polarization distributions obtained on the G3 PES, the rotational alignment effect of the two products calculated on the BW2 PES is similar. However, the abstraction reaction is dominated by out-of-plane mechanisms, while the exchange reaction is dominated by in-plane mechanisms. The significant difference of the product rotational polarization obtained on the G3 and BW2 PESs implies that the studies of the dynamical stereochemistry can provide a sensitive test for the accuracy of the PES. Photodissociation dynamics Of C2H5SH, i-C-3-H7SH and n-C3H7SH at 243.1 nm were investigated using velocity map ion-imaging method. H-atom photolysis products were detected by a (2 + 1) resonance enhanced ionization scheme. Both the angular distribution and translational energy distribution of the H-atom elimination processes were determined from the ion images of the H-atom products. The experimental results indicate that the H-atom eliminations from these molecules are mainly direct and fast dissociation processes from a repulsive potential energy state. And a more statistical dissociation process that likely occurs oil the ground state via internal conversion has also been observed. Dissociation energies of the S-H bonds are also derived from the H-atom product translational energy distributions. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The predissociation decay behavior of molecule carbonyl sulfide (OCS) has been investigated by resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization spectroscopy using the pump-probe technique of dichroic femtosecond lasers in real time. The lifetime of excited OCS around 74 720 cm(-1) by two-photon absorption of 268 nm, corresponding to upsilon(1)=1 of the Rydberg state [(2)Pi(1/2)]4ppi((1)Sigma(+)), is directly determined to be tau(D)=1071+/-11 fs. This picosecond decay process indicates that the excited state is predissociative. The temporal information of dissociation enriches the knowledge of the potential-energy surface of the associative excited state.

The elastic and electronic properties of hypothetical CoN3 and RhN3 with cubic skutterudite structure were studied by first principles calculations based on density functional theory. By choosing different initial geometries, two local minima or modifications were located on the potential energy surface, termed as modifications I and II. Both compounds are mechanically stable. For each compound, modification I is lower in energy than II. Thermodynamically stable phases can be achieved by applying pressures. Modification II is lower in energy than I at above 50 GPa for both compounds.
