In this work, a method was established for the determination of impurities in high purity tellurium by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) after Fe(OH)(3) coprecipitation. After comparison of coprecipitation ability and separation efficiency between Fe(OH), and Al(OH)(3), Fe(OH)(3) was chosen as the precipitate. A separation factor of 160 for 200 mg tellurium was obtained under conditions of pH 9 and 2 mg of Fe3(+). The 13 elements, such as Bi, Sn, Pb, In, Tl, Cd, Cu, Co, Ni, Zn, Ti, Be and Zr, could be almost completely coprecipitated under these conditions. In addition, Te memory effect imposed on the ICP-MS instrument was assessed, as well as Te matrix effect that caused the low recovery of Ga, As, Sb and V in real sample was discussed. Finally, the method was evaluated through recovery test and was applied to practical sample analysis, with detection limits of most of the elements being below 0.15 mug g(-1) and R.S.D. below or at approximately 10%, which indicated that this method could fully satisfy the requirements for analysis of 99.999% similar to 99.9999% high purity Te.

A new method for the preparation of polyalkyl and polyarenefullerene derivatives C-60(RH)(n)(R=Bu,n=1-3; R=Ph,n=1-10) by the reaction of C-60 with organotin hydride in toluene is described. Another series of products of stannanes R(a)Sn(b)H(c) (R=Bu, a=3-8, b=1-4, c=0-3 R=Ph, a=3-11, b=1-5, c=0-4) were also obtained, which shows that C-60 can catalyze polymerization of organic-tin. These products were determined by mass and infrared spectrometry. And the possible reaction mechanisms are discussed.

The title complex was synthesized and characterized by H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR and IR spectra. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study confirmed its molecular structure and revealed that 3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoyl salicylahydrazone was a tridentate and approximately planar ligand. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1BAR with a = 9.208(3), b = 12.536(2), c = 12.187(4) angstrom, alpha = 113.12(2), beta = 90.58(2), gamma = 81.42(2), V = 1277.5(6) angstrom, Z = 2. The structure was refined to R = 0.033 and R(w) = 0.041 for 3944 observed independent reflections. The tin atom has a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination. The Sn-C bond lengths are 2.129(5) and 2.113(5) angstrom (av. 2.121(5) angstrom), the C-Sn-C angle is 123.3(2); the bond length between the tin atom and the chelating nitrogen is 2.173(3) angstrom. Two chain carbon atoms and the chelating nitrogen atom occupy the basal plane. The skeleton of two erect oxygen atoms and the tin atom is bent (O-Sn-O angle = 153.5(1)). In the complex, the ligand exists in the enol-form.

R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) was purified from leafy gametophyte of Porphyra haitanensis T. J. Chang et B. F. Zheng (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) by a simple, scaleable procedure. Initially, phycobiliproteins were extracted by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, resulting in release from the algal cells by osmotic shock. Next, R-PE was recovered by applying the crude extract with a high concentration of (NH4)(2)SO4 salt directly to the expanded-bed columns loaded with phenyl-sepharose. An expanded-bed volume twice the settled-bed volume was maintained; then low (NH4)(2)SO4 concentration was used to develop the column. After two rounds of hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), R-PE was purified by anion-exchange column. The method was also successful with free-living conchocelis of P. haitanensis. The purified R-PE was identified with electrophoresis, and absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. The results were in agreement with those previously reported. The yield with a spectroscopic purity (OD565/OD280) higher than 3.2 (the ratio of A(565)/A(620) <= 0.02) was 1.4 mg . g(-1) of leafy gametophyte of P. haitanensis. For the free-living conchocelis of P. haitanensis extract, R-PE could be purified successfully with only one round of HIC. The yield with a spectroscopic purity (OD565/OD280) higher than 3.2 (the ratio of A(565)/A(620) <= 0.02) was 5.0 mg . g(-1) of free-living conchocelis of P. haitanensis. The method described here is a scaleable technology that allows a large quantity of R-PE to be recovered from the unclarified P. haitanensis crude extract. It is also a high protein recovery technology, reducing both processing costs and times, which enhances the value of this endemic Porphyra of China.

B-phycoerythrin (BPE) and R-phycocyanin (RPC) were purified from Porphyridium cruentum by Sephadex G-200 chromatography, then the BPE was attached covalently to the RPC by reacting their amino groups to form the artificially covalent BPE-RPC conjugate in which the excitation energy can transfer from the BPE to the RPC with low efficiency. Meanwhile, the intact phycobilisome (PBS) consisting of BPE, RPC, APC and L-CM was isolated and purified from Porphyridium cruentum, and the purified PBS was found to keep intact if the solution contains sucrose. Comparison of spectroscopic properties between the purified PBS and the BPE-RPC conjugate suggests that the BPE-RPC conjugate is much more stable than the purified PBS. The construction of BPE-RPC conjugate with low efficiency of the excitation energy transfer may be useful for preparing phycobiliprotein probes. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. R-phycoerythrin was isolated and purified from a red alga, Polysiphonia urceolata Grev, using Streamline column combined with ion-exchange chromatography or hydroxyapatite chromatography. The purity of R-phycoerythrin isolated by Streamline column was up to 1.66 and the yield of R-phycoerythrin could be as high as 0.68 mg/g frozen P. urceolata. All the eluates from Streamline column were divided into two equivalent parts, respectively. One part was pumped into the ion-exchange column loaded with Q-Sepharose and the other was applied to the adsorption column loaded with hydroxyapatite. The purities of R-phycoerythrin purified using these two methods were both up to 3.26, more than 3.2 the commonly accepted criterion. The yield of purified R-phycoerythrin from the ion-exchange chromatography was 0.40 mg/g frozen P. urceolata and that from the hydroxyapatite chromatography could reach 0.34 mg/g frozen P. urceolata. The purified protein had three absorption peaks at 498, 535, and 565 nm and displayed a fluorescence maximum at 580 nm, which was consistent with the typical spectrum of R-phycoerythrin. The purified R-PE was also identified with electrophoresis. Only one single protein band appeared on native-PAGE with silver staining. SDS-PAGE demonstrated the presence of one 20 kDa major subunit, and one low intensity band corresponding to 33 kDa subunit. The results indicate that using the expanded bed adsorption combined with ion-exchange chromatography or hydroxyapatite chromatography, R-phycoerythrin can be purified from frozen P. urceolata on large scale. Nickel tungstate (NiWO4) nano-particles were successfully synthesized at low temperatures by a molten salt method, and characterized by Xray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultraviolet visible spectra techniques (UV-vis), respectively. The effects of calcining temperature and salt quantity on the crystallization and development of NiWO4 crystallites were studied. Experimental results showed that the well-crystallized NiWO4 nano-particles with about 30 nm in diameter could be prepared at 270 degrees C with 6:1 mass ratio of the salt to NiWO4 precursor. XRD analysis confirmed that the product was a pure monoclinic phase of NiWO4 with wolframite structure. UV-vis spectrum revealed that NiWO4 nano-particles had good light absorption properties in both ultraviolet and visible light region. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. This paper gives a brief review of R&D researches for light olefin synthesis directly and indirectly from synthesis gas in the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP). The first pilot plant test was on methanol to olefin (MTO) reaction and was finished in 1993, which was based on ZSM-5-type catalyst and fixed bed reaction. In the meantime, a new indirect method designated as SDTO (syngas via dimethylether to olefin) was proposed. In this process, metal-acid bifunctional catalyst was applied for synthesis gas to dimethylether(DME) reaction, and modified SAPO-34 catalyst that was synthesized by a new low-cost method with optimal crystal size was used to convert DME to light olefin on a fluidized bed reactor. The pilot plant test on SDTO was performed and finished in 1995. Evaluation of the pilot plant data showed that 190-200 g of DME were yielded by single-pass for each standard cubic meter of synthesis gas. For the second reaction, 1.880 tons of DME or 2.615 tons of methanol produced 1 ton of light olefins, which constitutes of 0.533 ton of ethylene, 0.349 ton of propylene and 0.118 ton of butene. DICP also paid some attention on direct conversion of synthesis gas to light olefins. A semi-pilot plant test (catalyst 1.8 1) was finished in 1995 with a CO conversion > 70% and a C(2)(=)-C(4)(=) olefin selectivity 71-74% in 1000 h. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
