The methane hydrate was formed in a pressure vessel 38 mm in id and 500 mm in length. Experimental works on gas production from the hydrate-bearing core by depressurization to 0.1, 0.93, and 1.93 MPa have been carried out. The hydrate reservoir simulator TOUGH-Fx/Hydrate was used to simulate the experimental gas production behavior, and the intrinsic hydration dissociation constant (K-0) fitted for the experimental data was on the order of 104 mol m(-2) Pa-1 s(-1), which was one order lower than that of the bulk hydrate dissociation. The sensitivity analyses based on the simulator have been carried out, and the results suggested that the hydrate dissociation kinetics had a great effect on the gas production behavior for the laboratory-scale hydrate-bearing core. However for a field-scale hydrate reservoir, the flow ability dominated the gas production behavior and the effect of hydrate dissociation kinetics on the gas production behavior could be neglected.

We have studied the vertical transport and formation mechanisms of electric field domains in doped weakly-coupled GaAs/AlAs superlattices. Under hydrostatic pressure two kinds of sequential resonant tunneling are observed within the pressure range from 0 to 4.5 kbar. A transition from Gamma-Gamma to Gamma-X sequential resonant tunneling occurs at P-t approximate to 1.6 kbar. For P < P-t, the high electric field domain is formed by the Gamma-Gamma process, while for P > P-t it is preferentially formed by the Gamma-X process.

The nature of optical confinement in phase-locked laser arrays (PLLAs) with a mesa-stripe structure (MSS) has been studied. Two main mechanisms are distinguished, which are based on the variation of the waveguide effective refractive index due to MSS formation and on the refractive index modulation induced by the heating of the structure. Stable operation was achieved when either weak or strong optical coupling was realized in the PLLA. A phase-locked regime of radiation was obtained only for laser diodes with strong optical coupling. In the latter case the angle divergency was not greater than 2 degrees for the antisymmetric supermode emission from the PLLA.

In the present study, we investigated the mechanisms of apoptosis resistance and the roles of the phosphorylation of BRCA1, p21, the Bax/Bcl-2 protein ratio and cell cycle arrest in IR-induced apoptosis in MCF-7 cells. X-irradiation, in particular at low dose (1 Gy), but not carbon ion irradiation, had a significant antiproliferative effect on the growth of MCF-7 cells. 1 Gy X-irradiation resulted in G1 and G2 phase arrest, but 4 Gy induced a significant G1 block. In contrast, carbon ion irradiation resulted in a significant accumulation in the G2 phase. Concomitant with the phosphorylation of H2AX induced by DNA damage, carbon ion irradiation resulted in an approximately 1.9–2.8-fold increase in the phosphorylation of BRCA1 on serine residue 1524, significantly greater than that detected for X-irradiation. Carbon ion irradiation caused a dramatic increase in p21 expression and drastic decrease in Bax expression compared with X-irradiation. The data implicated that phosphorylation of BRCA1 on serine residue 1524 might,at least partially, induce p21 expression but repress Bax expression. Together, our results suggested that the phosphorylation of BRCA1 at Ser-1524 might contribute to the G2 phase arrest and might be an upstream signal involved in preventing apoptosis signal via upregulation of p21 and downregulation of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio.
