In the degassing process of transformer oil with ultrasonic waves, decomposition of the oil was observed. Light hydrocarbons, including methane, ethane, ethylene, acetylene, propane etc, were found to be released continuously from the oil into headspace within a closed vial placed in an ultrasonic field. The gases came from decomposition of hydrocarbon Molecules under cavitation effect.

Through tuning the length of flexible bis(triazole) ligands and different metal ion coordination geometries, four Wells-Dawson polyoxoanion-based hybrid compounds, [Cu-6(btp)(3)(P2W18O62)] center dot 3H(2)O (1) (btp = 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propane), [Cu-6(btb)(3)((P2W18O62) center dot 2H(2)O (2), [Cu-3(btb)(6)(P2W18O62)] center dot 6H(2)O (btb = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butane) (3), and [Cu-3(btx)(5.5)((P2W18O62) center dot 4H(2)O (btx = 1,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)hexane) (4), were synthesized and structurally characterized. in compound 1, the metal-organic motif exhibits a ladder-like chain, which is further fused by the ennead-dentate [P2W18O62](6-) anions to construct a 3D structure. In compound 2, the metal-organic motif exhibits an interesting Cu-btb grid layer, and the ennead-dentate polyoxoanions are sandwiched by two Cu-btb layers to construct a 3D structure

Reactions of zinc(II) or cadmium(II) salts with terephthalic acid (H(2)tp) and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl) propane (bpp) have afforded four coordination polymers at room temperature, [Zn(mu-tp)(mu-bpp)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (1), [Cd-2(mu-tp)(2)(mu-bpp)(3)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (2), [Cd(mu-tp)(mu-bpp)(H2O)](n)center dot nH(2)O (3), and [Cd-2(mu-tp)(mu-bpp)(2)(bpp)(2)Br-2](n) (4). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction has revealed interesting topological features for these compounds.

Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymerization for all-conjugated diblock copolymers comprising poly (2,5-dihexyloxy-1,4-phenylene) (PPP) and poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) blocks were systematically studied with LiCl as additive and 1,2-bis (diphenylphosphino) ethane nickel dichloride (Ni(dppe)Cl-2) or 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino) propane nickel dichloride (Ni(dppp)Cl-2) as catalyst. It was found that the addition order of the monomers was crucial for the success of copolymerization. With the monomer addition in the order of phenyl and then thienyl Grignard reagents, all-conjugated PPP-b-P3HT diblock copolymers with different block ratios were successfully synthesized. In contrast, the inverted addition order only afforded a mixture containing both block copolymers and deactivated or end-capped homopolymers.

Four aromatic tetraamine monomers possessing flexible ether linkages were successfully synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution of hydroquinone, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, 2,2'-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, and 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene with 5-chloro-2-nitroaniline, followed by reduction, respectively. With these monomers, a new class of soluble poly[ bis(benzimidazobenzisoquinolinones)] was prepared by a one-step, high-temperature solution polycondensation. The resulting polymers were completely soluble in phenolic solvents and had high inherent viscosities ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 g dL(-1). These polymers had glass transition temperatures in the range of 427-449 degrees C. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that all polymers were thermally stable, with 5% weight loss recorded above 510 degrees C in nitrogen.

Three new metal-organic coordination polymers, [Cu(2,3-pydc)(bpp)]center dot 2.5H(2)O (1), [Zn(2,3-pydc)(bpp)]center dot 2.5H(2)O (2) and [Cd(2,3-pydc)(bpp)(H2O)]center dot 3H(2)O (3) (2,3-pydcH(2) = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, bpp 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane), have been synthesized at room temvperature. All complexes have metal ions serving as 4-connected nodes but represent two quite different structural motifs. Complexes 1 and 2 are isomorphous, both of which feature 2D -> 3D parallel interpenetration. Each two-dimensional (2D) layer with (4, 4) topology is interlocked by two nearest neighbours, one above and one below, thus leading to an unusual 3D motif. Complex 3 has a non-interpenetrating 3D CdSO4 framework with cavities occupied by uncoordinated water molecules.

Reactions of Zn(BF4)(2) and pyridine-2,4-dicarboxylic acid (2,4-pydcH(2)) in the presence of 1,2-bis( 4-pyridyl) ethylene or 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl) propane under hydro(solvo) thermal conditions yielded two polymorphic metal-organic coordination polymers formulated as Zn-2(OH)(2)(2,4-pydc) (1 and 2). Polymorph 1 features a two-dimensional (2-D) layer-like structure that is constructed by 2,4-pydc ligands bridging between the Zn-OH-Zn double-chain units. Each single Zn-OH-Zn chain is composed of mu(2)-OH groups connecting trigonal bipyramidal and tetrahedral Zn centers. Polymorph 2 is a 3-D coordination polymer containing 2-D Zn-OH-Zn sheets that consist of mu(2)- and mu(3)-OH groups and trigonal bipyramidal Zn centers. The sheets are pillared by 2,4-pydc ligands to form an acentric structural architecture. 1 and 2 are rare examples that the two polymorphs exhibit a centrosymmetric 2-D coordination network and an acentric 3-D coordination network, respectively. The different structures lead to differences in photoluminescent properties and thermal stabilities for 1 and 2.

A series of NNOO-tetradentate enolic Schiff-base ligands were prepared where ligand L-1 = bis(benzoylacetone)propane-1,2-diimine, L-2 = bis(acetylacetone)-propane-1,2-diimine, L-3 = bis-(acetylacetone)cyclohexane-1,2-diimine. Their further reaction with aluminum tris(ethyl) formed complexes LAlEt (1a, 2a and 3a). The solid structure of complexes la, 2a and 3a confirmed by X-ray single crystal analysis manifested that these complexes were all monomeric and five-coordinated with an aluminum atom in the center. The configurations of these complexes varied from trigonal bipyramidal geometry (tbp) to square pyramidal geometry (sqp) due to their different auxiliary ligand architectures. H-1 NMR spectra indicated that all these complexes retained their configuration in solution states. Their catalytic properties to polymerize racemic-lacticle (rac-LA) in the presence of 2-propanol were also studied. The diimine bridging parts as well as the diketone segment substituents had very close relationship with their performance upon the polymerization process. All these complexes gave moderately isotactic polylactides with controlled molecular weight and very narrow molecular weight distributions.

Cis-1,2,3,4-cyclohexanetetracarboxylic dianhydride (cis-1,2,3,4-CHDA) was synthesized. It was found that under such conditions as heating or boiling in acetic anhydride, cis-1,2,3,4-CHDA could be converted to its trans-isomer. The process of thermal isomerization was monitored by H-1 NMR spectra and the mechanism of conversion was proposed. Their absolute structures of cis- and trans-1,2,3,4-CHDAs were elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The polycondensations of cis- and trans-1,2,3,4-CHDAs with aromatic diamines such as 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA), 4,4'-methylenedianiline (MDA), 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethyldiphenylmethane (DMMDA), 4,4'-bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene (TPEQ), 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl] propane (BAPP) were studied. It is easy to obtain higher molecular weight polyimides from trans-1,2,3,4-CHDA using conventional one-step or two-step methods. However, higher molecular weight polyimides derived from cis-1,2,3,4-CHDA could not be prepared by the usual methods (solid content ca. 10%) owing to the trend of forming cyclic oligomers.
