Diatom data of 192 surface sediment samples from the marginal seas in the western Pacific together with modern summer and winter sea surface temperature and salinity data were analyzed. The results of canonical correspondence analysis show that summer sea-surface salinity (SSS) is highly positively correlated with winter SSS and so is summer sea-surface temperature (SST) with winter SST. The correlations between SSSs and SSTs are less positively correlated, which may be due to interactions of regional current pattern and monsoon climate. The correlations between diatom species, sample sites and environmental variables concur with known diatom ecology and regional oceanographic characters. The results of forward selection of the environmental variables and associated Monte Carlo permutation tests of the statistical significance of each variable suggest that summer SSS and winter SST are the main environmental factors affecting the diatom distribution in the area and therefore preserved diatom data from down core could be used for reconstructions of summer SSS and winter SST in the region.

High molecular weight dissolved organic matter (HMW-DOM) represents an important component of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in seawater and fresh-waters. In this paper, we report measurements of stable carbon (delta(13)C) isotopic compositions in total lipid, total hydrolyzable amino acid (THAA), total carbohydrate (TCHO) and acid-insoluble "uncharacterized" organic fractions separated from fourteen HMW-DOM samples collected from four U.S. estuaries. In addition, C/N ratio, delta(13) C and stable nitrogen (delta(15)N) isotopic compositions were also measured for the bulk HMW-DOM samples. Our results indicate that TCHO and THAA are the dominant organic compound classes, contributing 33-46% and 13-20% of the organic carbon in HMW-DOM while total lipid accounts for only <2% of the organic carbon in the samples. In all samples. a significant fraction (35-49%) of HMW-DOM was included in the acid-insoluble fraction. Distinct differences in isotopic compositions exist among bulk samples, the compound classes and the acid-insoluble fractions. Values of delta(13)C and delta(15)N measured for bulk HMW-DOM varied from -22.1 to -30.1parts per thousand and 2.8 to 8.9parts per thousand, respectively and varied among the four estuaries studied as well. Among the Compound classes, TCHO was more enriched in C-13 (delta(13)C = -18.5 to -22.8parts per thousand) compared with THAA (delta(13)C = -20.0 to -29.6parts per thousand) and total lipid (delta(13)C = -25.7 to -30.7parts per thousand). The acid-insoluble organic fractions, in general, had depleted C-13 values (delta(13)C = -23.0 to -34.4parts per thousand). Our results indicate that the observed differences in both delta(13)C and delta(15)N were mainly due to the differences in sources of organic matter and nitrogen inputs to these estuaries in addition to the microbial processes responsible for isotopic fractionation among the compound classes. Both terrestrial sources and local sewage inputs contribute significantly to the HMW-DOM pool in the estuaries studied and thus had a strong influence on its isotopic signatures. The aggressive behavior and the violent crime of the Adolenscents have aroused social widespread attention. The Social Implicit Cognition Method could overcome the insufficiency of explicit research methods such as Self-Report Scale, and carry on the thorough discussion to the intrinsic mechanism of the Adolenscent’s aggressive behavior. In this research, Implicit Association Test and Explicit Questionnaire are synthetically applied to inspect the relations among the aggression, Evaluation of Emotion Regulation and the aggressive behavior of the normal middle-school students and the Adolenscent violent criminals under the explicit and implicit conditions, and have carried the supplement to the internal condition of the General aggression model (GAM). The result indicates, 1. The concept of implicit aggression exists independently and separates from explicit aggression. However the relations between implicit aggression and the groups are remarkable, i.e. both the implicit and explicit aggressions of the Adolenscent violent criminals are remarkably higher than those of the normal middle-school students, but not influenced by sex factors. 2. Implicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation is suitable to Chinese Adolenscents. The correlation of groups and sex factors exist to Implicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation, i.e. in the group of criminals, the female inclines to the mood control compared with the male in the aspect of Implicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation; however, in the group of normal persons, the difference between male and female is not remarkable in the aspect of Implicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation. 3. Under the explicit conditions, it is discovered that the remarkable explicit aggression can predict violent criminals. But it is adjusted by Explicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation, i.e. the predicting function is not remarkable when the Explicit Evaluation inclines to expression. Meanwhile, when checking the functions and the effects of the implicit variables after the explicit conditions are under control, it is discovered that the predicting function of implicit aggression is still remarkable, and the predicting function of Implicit Evaluation of Emotion Regulation is remarkable at the edge and also adjusted by sex factors. These findings help us not only understanding thoroughly the intrinsic mechanism of the Adolenscent’s aggressive behavior, discovering the moderating role of Evaluation of Emotion Regulation on aggression, but also providing an academic foundation on the prevention and intervention of the Adolenscent’s aggressive behavior.

Currently, one of the important research areas in Spatial updating is the role of external (for instance visual) and internal (for instance proprioceptive or vestibular) information in spatial updating of scene recognition. Our study uses the paradigm of classic spatial updating research and the experimental design of investigation of Burgess(2004),first, we will explore the concrete influence of locomotion on scene recognition in real world; next, we will use virtual reality technology, which can control many spatial learning parameters and exclude the influence of extra irrelevant variables, to explore the influence of pure locomotion without visual cue on scene recognition, and furthermore, we will explore whether the ability of spatial updating can be transferred to new situations in a short period of time and compare the result pattern in real word with that in virtual reality to test the validity of virtual reality technology in spatial updating of scene recognition research. The main results of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1. In real world, we found two effects: the spatial updating effect and the viewpoint dependent effect, this result indicated that the spatial updating effect based on locomotion does not eliminate the viewpoint dependent effect during the scene recognition process in physical environment. 2. In virtual reality environment, we still found two effects: the spatial updating effect and the viewpoint dependent effect, this result showed us that the spatial updating effect based on locomotion does not eliminate the viewpoint dependent effect during the scene recognition process in virtual reality environment either. 3. The spatial updating effect based on locomotion plays double role in scene recognition: When subjects were tested in different viewpoint, spatial updating based on locomotion promoted scene recognition; while subjected were tested in same viewpoint, spatial updating based on locomotion had a negative influence on scene recognition, these results show us that spatial updating based on locomotion is automated and can not be ignored. 4. The ability of spatial updating can be transferred to new situations in a short period of time , and the experiment in the immersed virtual reality environment got the same result pattern with that in the physical environment, suggesting VR technology is a very effective method to do research on spatial updating of the scene recognition studies. 5. This study about scene recognition provides evidence to double system model of spatial updating in the immersed virtual reality environment.

The nature of individual differences among children is an important issue in the study of human intelligence. There are close relation between intelligence and executive functions. Traditional theories, which are based mainly on the factor analysis, approach the problem only from the perspective of psychometrics. However, they do not study the relation of cognition and neurobiology. Some researchers try to explore the essential differences in intelligence from the basic cognitive level, by studying the relationship between executive function and intelligence. The aim of this study was to do the followings 1) to delineate and separate the executive function in children into measurable constructs; 2) to establish the relationship between executive function and intelligence in children; 3) to find out the difference and its neural mechanism between intellectually-gifted and normal children’s executive function. The participants were 188 children aged 7-12 year old. There were 6 executive function tasks. The results were follows: 1) The latent variables analyses showed that there was no stable construct of executive function in 7-10 year old children. The executive function construct of 11-12 year old children could be separated into updating, inhibition and shifting. And they had grown to be more or less the same as adults in the executive function. There were only moderate correlations between the three types of executive function, but they were largely independent of each other. 2) The correlations between the indices of updating, inhibition, shifting and intelligence were different in 7-12 year old children. The older the age, the more the indices were related to intelligence. The updating and shifting were related to intelligence in 7-10 year old children. There were significant correlations between the updating, inhibition, shifting and intelligence in 11-12 year old children. The correlation between updating and intelligence was higher than the correlation between shifting and intelligence. Furthermore, in structural equation models controlling for the three executive functions correlations, updating was highly related to intelligence, but the relations of inhibition and shifting to intelligence were not significant. 3) Intellectually-gifted children performed better than normal children in executive function tasks. The neural mechanism differences between intellectually gifted and average children were indicated by ERP component P3. The present study helps us to understand the relationship between intelligence and executive function; and throws light on the issue of individual differences in intelligence. The present results can provide theoretical support for the development a culture-free intelligence test and a method to promote the development of intelligence. Our present study lends support to the neural efficient hypothesis.
