A facile and convenient synthesis of dihydropyranones has been developed by a formal [4+2] annulation of readily available alpha-acetyl ketene S,S-acetals with various aldehydes, involving a tandem aldol reaction and conjugate addition-elimination reaction, in the presence of NaOH in water.

A facile and efficient synthesis Of Substituted pyridin-2(1H)-ones has been developed by the reaction of readily available 1-carbamoyl-]-[3-(dimethylamino)propenoyl]cyclopropanes with phosphoryl chloride or phosphorus tribromide in dichloromethane at room temperature.

A facile and convenient synthesis method has been developed for substituted quinoxalines and 2H-benzo[b][1,4]oxazines from the reactions of alpha-bromoketones with benzene-1,2-diamine and 2-aminophenol, respectively, which were catalyzed by tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) in aqueous basic media.

The asymmetric Michael addition of aldehydes to nitroolefins was investigated using L-prolinamide derivatives of 2-(2'-piperidinyl)pyridine as catalyst and a variety of phenols as co-catalyst. Extensive screening toward the effect of prolinamides, phenols, and solvents on this transformation revealed that a combination of (S)-2-(2'-piperidinyl)pyridine-derived trans-4-hydroxy-L-prolinamide 2c, (S)-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol, and dichloromethane was a promising system. This system was shown to be amenable to a rich variety of aldehydes and nitroolefins and afforded the nitroaldehyde products with excellent yield, enantiomeric excess (up to 99%) and diastereoselectivity ratio (up to 99/1), even in the case of 1 mol % catalyst loading and 1.5 equiv of aldehydes.

Strong supramolecular interactions, which induced tight packing and rigid molecules in crystals of cyano substituent oligo(para-phenylene vinylene) (CN-DPDSB), are the key factor for the high luminescence efficiency of its crystals; opposite to its isolated molecules in solution which have very low luminescence efficiency.

A facile and efficient one-pot synthesis of highly substituted pyridin-2(1H)-ones is developed via the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of readily available 1-acetyl,1-carbamoyl cyclopropanes, and a mechanism involving sequential ring-opening, haloformylation, and intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization reactions is proposed.

A convenient and efficient synthesis of highly substituted pyrrolin-4-ones is developed via the PIFA-mediated cyclization reactions of readily available enaminones, and a mechanism involving sequential cleavage of N-C bond, formation of new N-C bond, intramolecular addition reaction, and benzilic acid type rearrangement is proposed.

A facile and efficient one-pot synthesis of highly substituted pyridin-2(IH)-ones was developed via Vilsmeier-Haack reactions of readily available enaminones, 2-arylamino-3-acetyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrans, and a mechanism involving sequential ring-opening, haloformylation, and intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization reactions is proposed.

An efficient synthetic procedure for substituted 2,3,6,7tetrahydrothiopyrano [2,3-b] thiopyran-4,5 -diones by a double annulation strategy is described. The ring systems are made in good yields from readily available dialkenoylketene dithioacetals in the presence of either sodium sulfide nonahydrate/N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) or a sodium hydride/DMF/amine system.

A facile and efficient synthetic route towards; highly substituted isothiazol-3(2H)-ones 2 from readily available U.-carbamoyl ketene-S,S-acetals 1 is presented. The key step features the formation of an N-acylnitrenium ion, generated from the oxidization of substituted amides with the hypervalent iodine reagent phenyliodine(III) bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA), and its succeeding intramolecular amidation to form a new N-S bond affording the title compounds.

Efficient synthetic procedures for the preparation of beta-trithiophenes (dithieno[2,3-b:3',2'-d]thiophene) and two macrocyclic compounds, tetra[2,3-thienylene] and hexa[2,3-thienylene] bearing trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups from 2,2'-dibromo-5,5'-bistrimethylsilanyl[3,3']bithiophenyl are reported. The UV-Vis spectra property and crystal structures of these macrocyclic oligothiophenes are described.

Polyester thin films containing europium-substituted heteropolytungstate were obtained on quartz plate by the sol-gel method. The films exhibited the characteristic emission bands of the europium ion. The red to orange intensity ratio (R:O) of Eu3+ in the films increased as compared to the corresponding heteropolytungstate solids. The fluorescence lifetime of europium is shorter in the thin film than in the heteropolytungstate solid. The results indicated that the formation of europium-substituted heteropolytungstate/polyester thin film has great effect on the luminescence of europium- substituted heteropolytungstate.

A new kind of hybrid self-assembled film was obtained by means of alternating deposition of the polyoxometalate (POM), K-13[Eu(SiW11-O-39)(2)], and polyacrylamide (PAA) on the 3-aminopropylsilanized precursor film. The experimental results showed that the polyanions were successfully incorporated into the self-assembled multilayers of the polyacrylamide. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was taken to study the surface morphology of the film. The X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) verified that the polyoxometalates were incorporated into the multilayer films with a certain adsorption interaction. The effects of the polyacrylamide on the luminescence of the polyoxometalate were discussed in detail. The luminescence spectra showed that the energy was transferred from the ligands to the Eu3+ ions in the self-assembled films.

The organic/inorganic hybrid Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were obtained by the compact organization of poly(1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethyl)quinoline (PQ), octadecylamine (ODA) and rare earth-substituted heteropolymolybdates. They were characterized by surface pressure-area (pi-A) isotherms, absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The atomic force microscope revealed a granular surface texture of nanosized rare earth-substituted heteropolymolybdate. The scanning tunneling microscopy indicated that the hybrid LB films containing rare earth-substituted heteropolymolybdates had the better electrical conductivity than LB film of PQ/ODA.
