N-arylamides from selenium-catalyzed reactions of nitroaromatics and amides in the presence of carbon monoxide and mixed organic bases

N-Arylamides were exclusively obtained in moderate to good yields from selenium-catalyzed reactions of nitroaromatics with amides in the presence of CO and mixed organic bases Et3N and DBU.

Pd/C-catalyzed hydrodehalogenation of aromatic halides in aqueous solutions at room temperature under normal pressure

The hydrodehalogenation of aromatic halides, catalyzed by Pd/C in aqueous solutions, yields arenes in short reaction times at room temperature under normal pressure. The nature of the solvents has an important influence on the reaction rates and the activity of the catalyst. The catalyst shows the highest activity in water. In the hydrodechlorination of 4-chlorohypnone, it was in water that C-Cl bond was easier to be hydrogenated, and in isopropanol that C=O was easier to be hydrogenated. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. Chiral ferrocene-based phosphine-imine and sulfur-imine ligands for palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of cycloalkenyl esters

Chiral ferrocene-based phosphine-imine ligands 1-3 and sulfur-imine ligand 4 were applied in the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of cycloalkenyl esters. The results revealed that the substitutents in aryl ring, ferrocenylmethyl and benzyliene position strongly affected the enantioselective induction of phosphine-imine ligands, and the most stereoselective ligand was ferrocenylphosphine-imine 1b with a nitro group in the meta-position of phenyl ring. Under the optimized condition, up to 91% (enantiomeric excesses) e.e. of cyclic alkylation product was obtained by the use of 1b. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
