Titanium silicalites have been synthesized in the TPABr+ammonia, TPABr+hexanediamine, TPABr+ethylenediamine, TPABr+diethylamine, TPABr+TEAOH, TPABr+n-butylamine, TPABr+TBAOH and TBAOH+n-butylamine systems. As-synthesized titanium silicalites were characterized by XRD, IR and C-13 CP MAS NMR. Catalytic performance in epoxidation of propylene and template effect was investigated. It has been shown that both TPABr and TBAOH serve as templating agent in TPABr+TBAOH system. But in other systems, when there is enough TPABr, organic amines or ammoniums only act as the bases. TEAOH or n-butylamine can take the role of template when less TPABr is added. It indicates that the ability of organic amines or ammoniums to direct the Pentasil structure decreases as follows: TPA(+)>TBA(+)>TEA(+)>n-butylamine. Catalysts exhibiting good performance in epoxidation of propylene can be attained using TPABr as the template and ammonia, n-butylamine, diethylamine, hexanediamine or TBAOH as bases. CdS nanotubes and nanowires have been synthesized with controlled dimensions by means of template-electrodeposition method in etched ion-track membranes. The diameters of nanotubes and nanowires are between 20 and I 10 nm, and the lengths are up to tens of micrometers. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern investigations demonstrate that CdS nanotubes and nanowires are polycrystalline in nature. The UV-vis absorption spectra of CdS nanotubes and nanowires embedded in polycarbonate (PC) membranes show that the absorption edges of PC films shift towards the shorter wavelength, with decreasing diameters of the deposited nanostructures. The results indicate that nanowires are formed from nanotubes by nanotube-stuffing-growth mechanism.

Two porous zirconium methylphosphonates (designated as ZMPmi and ZMPme respectively) were synthesized by using dibutyl methylphosphonate (DBMP) as a template. Two efficient post-synthetic treatments were developed to remove the incorporated template without destroying the hybrid structures. The materials were characterized by SEM, EPMA, TG, DTA, FTIR, and NMR. Specific surface area and porosity were evaluated by BET, alpha(s)-plots and DFT methods based on N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. The specific surface areas of ZMPmi and ZMPme are determined to be 279 and 403 m(2) g(-1) and the maxima of pore size distributions are at 0.7 and 1.3 nm respectively. (c) 2005 Elsevier Inc. Luminescent Ln (Eu3+, Tb3+) doped hydroxyapatite (Eu:HAp, Tb:HAp) phosphors were successfully fabricated via the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/n-octane/n-butanol/water microemulsion-mediated solvothermal process. The structure, morphology, and optical properties were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and photoluminescence (PL) spectra as well as the kinetic decays, respectively.

Polyethylenimine (PEI)-protected Prussian blue nanocubes have been simply synthesized by heating an acidic mixture of PEI, FeCl3, K3Fe(CN)(6), and KCI. The experiment results presented here demonstrate that the pH of the mixture plays an important role in controlling the shape and composition of the resultant product.

Highly crystalline and nearly monodisperse In2O3 nanocrystals with both cube and flower shapes were successfully synthesized in one step through a facile aqueous solvothermal method for the first time, free of any surfactant or template. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selective area electron diffraction (SAED), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were used to characterize the samples. In our work, the use of diethylene glycol (DEG) is a crucial factor for the formation of the In2O3 phase.

Urea bridged organic-inorganic hybrid mesoporous SiO2 materials (U-BSQMs) were synthesized through a sol-gel procedure by co-condensation of bis(triethoxysilyl propyl) urea (BSPU) under basic conditions using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as organic template. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the mesoporous structure of the sample. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), solid state CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy of Si-29 (Si-29, CP-MAS NMR) and C-13 (C-13 CP NMR) indicated that most of the Si-C bonds are unbroken during the synthesis process.

Nanoporous In2O3 nanocrystal clusters with high surface areas have been synthesized by a one-step solvent-thermal method at a relatively low temperature. On the basis of our experimental data and nanomaterial growth mechanism, a template-assistant dehydration accompanied by aggregation mechanism was proposed to explain their formation. Besides, the influence of the high-temperature treatment on their porous structure and optical properties were studied and compared by various technologies.

In this work, a one-dimensional microrod-based three-dimensional flowerlike indium hydroxide (In(OH)(3)) structure was fabricated, without any templates or surfactants, using a well-known hydrothermal approach at a non-high temperature. In2O3 with similar morphology was formed by annealing In(OH)3 precursors and was characterized by Raman spectrum and photoluminescence (PL) spectrum in detail.

This paper describes a facile route for simultaneous synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) nanotubules and gold nanoplates. The inner diameter of PANI nanotubules was less than 10 nm and the length was several micrometers. At the same time, uniform single-crystal gold nanoplates with thicknesses of tens of nanometers were obtained.

Uniform octahedral YVO4:Eu3+ microcrystals have been successfully prepared through a designed two-step hydrothermal conversion method. One-dimensional precursor Y4O(OH)(9)NO3 was first prepared through a simple hydrothermal process without using any surfactant, catalyst or template. Subsequently, well-defined octahedral YVO4 was synthesized at the expense of the precursor during a hydrothermal conversion process. XRD results demonstrate that the diffraction peaks of the final product can be well indexed to the pure tetragonal phase of YVO4.

One-dimensional La(OH)(3) nanocrystals with multiform morphologies have been successfully synthesized by a facile bydrothermal process without using any surfactant, catalyst, or template. It can be found that the pH values of the initial solutions and the alkaline sources play a crucial role in controlling the morphologies of the products. The possible formation process of the 1D samples was investigated in detail, Furthermore, the as-prepared Tb3+-doped La(OH)(3) samples show a strong green emission corresponding to D-5(4)-F-7(5) transition of the Tb3+ ions under ultraviolet or low-voltage excitation.
