The small mysid crustacean Neomysis awatschensis was collected in the west coast of Jiaozhou Bay, Qingdao, China in 1992 and acclimated and cultured in laboratory conditions since then. Standard acute toxicity tests using 4-6 d juvenile mysids of this species were conducted and the results were compared with Mysidopsis bahia, a standard toxicity test organism used in the US in terms of their sensitivities to reference toxins, as well as their taxonomy, morphology and geographic distributions. Because of its wide distribution along the Chinese coast, similar sensitivity to pollutants as M. bahia, short life history, small size and the case of handling, this study intended to use N. awatschensis as one of the standard marine organisms for toxicity testing in China. The species were applied to acute toxicity evaluations of drilling fluid and its additives I organotin TPT and toxic algae, and to chronic ( life cycle) toxicity assays of organotin TPT and a toxic dinofalgellate Alexandrium tamarense, respectively. Using N, awatschensis as a standard toxicity testing organism in marine pollution assessment in China is suggested.

This paper provides basic information on the general ecology and life history cycles of various flatfish species in the Bohai Sea, China. The species studied are Paralichthys olivaceus (Temminck & Schlegel), Cleisthenes herzensteini (Schmidt), Eopsetta grigorjewi (Herzenstein), Verasper variegatus (Temminck & Schlegel), Pleuronichthys cornutus (Temminck & Schlegel), Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae (Gunther), Pseudopleuronectes herzensteini (Jordan & Snyder), Kareius bicoloratus (Basilewsky), Zebrias zebra (Bloch), Cynoglossus semilaevis Gunther, Cynoglossus abbreviatus (Gray) and Cynoglossus joyneri Gunther. Information on reproduction, eggs and larval distribution, growth and adult abundance is presented. Based on the biology and ecology of these flatfish, artificial enhancement of the commercial species in the Bohai Sea is discussed.

Experiments on the corrosion fatigue behaviour of welded joints of the steel for marine platform in air and seawater, and of the joints in seawater with cathodic protection, yielded data for linear regression to obtain fatigue life curves (Delta S-N-f). The laws of corrosion fatigue in welded joints of test steel are discussed with reference to those of A(587) and A(131) steel. In these experiments, the fatigue damage occurring at all welded joints around the weld interface resulted in the cracks and fractures. The fatigue life of the specimens in seawater with cathodic protection is longer than that in seawater Without protection.
