Tunable phase-stabilized infrared parametric laser source

This paper reports that the tunable self-phase-stabilized infrared laser pulses have been generated from a two-stage optical parametric amplifier. With an 800 nm pump source, the output idler pulses are tunable from 1.3 mu m to 2.3 mu m, and the maximum output energy of the idler pulses is higher than 1 mJ at 1.6 mu m by using 6 mJ pump laser. A carrier-envelope phase fluctuation of similar to 0.15 rad (rms) for the idler pulses is measured for longer than one hour by using a home build f-to-2f interferometer.

Instability of solution of phase retrieval in direct diffraction phase-contrast imaging with partially coherent X-ray source

The theoretical model of direct diffraction phase-contrast imaging with partially coherent x-ray source is expressed by an operator of multiple integral. It is presented that the integral operator is linear. The problem of its phase retrieval is described by solving an operator equation of multiple integral. It is demonstrated that the solution of the phase retrieval is unstable. The numerical simulation is performed and the result validates that the solution of the phase retrieval is unstable.

Spatial longitudinal coherence length of a thermal source and its influence on lensless ghost imaging

The spatial longitudinal coherence length (SLCL), which is determined by the size of and the distance from the source, is introduced to investigate the longitudinal resolution of lensless ghost imaging. Its influence is discussed quantitatively by simulation. The discrepancy of position sensitivity between Scareelli et al. [Appl. Phys. Lett. 88, 061106 (2006)] and Basano and Ottonello [Appl. Phys. Code conversion from signed-digit to complement representation based on look-ahead optical logic operations

We present, for the first time to our knowledge, a generalized lookahead logic algorithm for number conversion from signed-digit to complement representation. By properly encoding the signed-digits, all the operations are performed by binary logic, and unified logical expressions can be obtained for conversion from modified-signed-digit (MSD) to 2's complement, trinary signed-digit (TSD) to 3's complement, and quarternary signed-digit (QSD) to 4's complement. For optical implementation, a parallel logical array module using an electron-trapping device is employed and experimental results are shown. This optical module is suitable for implementing complex logic functions in the form of the sum of the product. Anisotropic-source-induced changes of the degree of polarization of stochastic electromagnetic beams on propagation

It is shown that stochastic electromagnetic beams may have different degrees of polarization on propagation, even though they have the same coherence properties in the source plane. This fact is due to a possible difference in the anisotropy of the field in the source plane. The result is illustrated by some examples.

Specklegram in a multiple-mode fiber and its dependence on longitudinal modes of the laser source

A specklegram in a multimode fiber (MMF) has successfully been used as a sensor for detecting external disturbance. Our experiments showed that the sensitivity in the sensor with a multiple longitudinal-mode laser as its source was much higher than that with a single longitudinal-mode laser. In addition, the near-field pattern observations indicated that the coupling between different transverse modes in the MMF is quite weak. Based on the experimental results, a theoretical model for the speckle formation is proposed, taking a bend-caused phase factor into consideration. It is shown in the theoretical analysis that the interferences between different longitudinal modes make a larger contribution to the specklegram signals. (C) 2007 Optical Society of America.

Design of a highly stable, high-conversion-efficiency pumping source for optical parametric amplifier by extending efficient crystal length

The objective of this study is to improve the stability of pumping source of optical parametric amplifier. Analysis by simulation leads to the conclusion that the stability of the second harmonic can be improved by using properly the intensity of fundamental light and corresponding length of the crystal. By the method of the noncollinear two-pass second harmonic or the tandem second harmonic, the efficient crystal length is extended to a proper value, and the stability of the second harmonic output has been improved two times more than that for the fundamental light, and the conversion-efficiency is about 70% in experiment. When the variation of the fundamental light is about 10%, the variation of the second harmonic intensity has been controlled within 5%. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

2W Yb-doped double-clad fiber superfluorescent source with 42 nm 3 dB bandwidth

The output spectrum of Yb-doped double-clad fiber superfluorescent source (SFS) is tailored by placing a broadband dichroic mirror in the pump end of conventional single-pass forward configuration, which constitutes double-pass forward configuration. The 3 dB bandwidth is increased from I I to 42 nm. A maximum output SFS power of 2.12 W and a slope efficiency of 43.2% are obtained. The double-clad fiber is 25 in and the pump power is adequate to saturate the fiber as far as the feedback-induced lasing appears. (c) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
