The heterobimetallic complexes Cp * Rh(CN Bu-t)(EC5H4)(2)Fe [E = S(2),Se(3), Te(4)] have been synthesized by the reaction of halfsandwich rhodium complex Cp * Rh(CNtBu) Cl-2 with Fe(C5H4ELi)(2). 2THF. Oxidation of 2,3 by AgBF4 to give ferrocenium - type salts [Cp * Rh(CNtBu) (EC5H4)(2)Fe] (+) [BF4] (-) [E = S(5),Se(6)] also occurs readily. The new complexes have been characterized by MS IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

Never di- and trinuclear Rh complexes, [Rh-2(PPh3)(4)(H)(4)(Me2CO)(2)(mu -pyz)](ClO4)(2). EtOH and [Rh-3(PPh3),(mu -pyz)(3)](ClO4)(3). EtOH were selectively isolated from the reaction of [Rh(PPh3)(2)(H)(2)(Me2Co)(EtOH)]ClO4 with pyrazine (pyz) in Me2CO and THF, respectively. Their structures were crystallographically characterized.

Macrocyclic arylene ether ketone dimer was isolated from a mixture of cyclic oligomers obtained by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of bisphenol A and 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone and easily polymerized to high molecular weight linear poly(ether ketone). The cyclic compound was characterized by FTIR, H-1- and C-13-NMR, and single-crystal x-ray diffraction. Analysis of the spectral and crystal structure reveals extreme distortions of he phenyl rings attached to the isopropylidene center and of the turning points of the molecular polygons. The release of the ring strain on ring-opening combined with entropical difference between the linear polymer chain and the more rigid macrocycle at temperatures of polymerization may be the proposed motivating factors in the polymerization of this precursor to high molecular weight poly(ether ketone). Endohedral dilutetium fullerenes, Lu-2@C-2n(2n = 76 similar to 112), have been extracted from the soot prepared by are-burning method for the first time and different from other lanthanide encapsulated fullerenes, there is no signal corresponding to Lu@C-82 even in mass spectrum of the high-temperature, high-pressure extract.

Mossbauer spectra of the dimer of a bimetallic Eu-Al complex, [(CF3COO)3EuHAl(C2H5)2 . 2 THF]2 are measured at different temperatures (81 to 166 K) and some Mossbauer parameters, such as isomer shift, electric quadrupole splitting and asymmetric parameter, are derived from the experimental spectra. The Debye temperature of the compound determined by a Debye model is 128 K. The results indicate that europium in the organo-europium compound is trivalent and that a bridging hydrogen atom between two europium atoms exists in the dimer. The low Debye temperature implies that the weaker binding force between the europium atom and the lattice may be related to the structure and the chemical bonding in the organometallic compound of europium.

The crystal structure of [Mn(thiamine)Cl2(H2O)]2[thiamine]2Cl4.2H2O has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The compound contains a cyclic dimer of a complex cation with two thiamine ligands bridged by two Mn(II) ions across a crystallographic center of symmetry. Each Mn(II) is coordinated by two chloride atoms, a water molecule, a N(1') atom of the pyrimidine from a thiamine and an O(53) atom of the hydroxyethyl side chain from another thiamine. There are two free-base thiamine molecules related by a center of symmetry in the unit cell, which form a base-pair through the hydrogen bonds. Both the independent thiamine molecules in the asymmetric unit assume the common F conformation with phi-T = 10.0(9) and 3.6(10) and phi-P = 85.6(7) and 79.6(7), respectively. The compound provides a possible model for a metal-bridged enzyme-coenzyme complex in thiamine catalysis. Crystallographic data: triclinic, space group P1BAR, a = 12.441(4), b = 13.572(4), c = 11.267(3) angstrom, alpha = 103.15(2), beta 89.03(3), gamma = 115.64(2)-degrees, Z = 1, D(calc) = 1.524 g cm-3, and R = 0.050 for 3019 observed reflections with I > 3-sigma(I).

The approach for constructing the qualitative band structure of a polymer from corresponding dimer has been extended to the system possessing two-fold screw axis or. glide plane. The classification of energy levels of the dimer in the present case depends on pseudo-symmetry/antisymmetry instead of psendo-in-phase/out-of-phase property of the orbitals. Several typical conductive polymers are then discussed follow this approach. Among them are cis-polyacetylene, polyparaphenylene with a twist ang...
