Charge trapping in the fluorinated SIMOX buried oxides before and after ionizing radiation has been investigated by means of C-V characteristics. Radiation-induced positive charge trapping which results in negative shift of C-V curves can be restrained by implanting fluorine ions into the SIMOX buried oxides. Pre-radiation charge trapping is suppressed in the fluorinated buried oxides. The fluorine dose and post-implantation anneal time play a very important role in the control of charge trapping.

In order to enhance light absorption of thin film poly-crystalline silicon (TF poly-Si) solar cells over a broad spectral range, and quantify the effectiveness of nanoshell light trapping structure over the full solar spectrum in theory, the effective photon trapping flux (EPTF) and effective photon trapping efficiency (EPTE) were firstly proposed by considering both the external quantum efficiency of TF poly-Si solar cell and scattering properties of light trapping structures. The EPTF, EPTE and scattering spectrum exhibit different behaviors depending on the geometric size and density of nanoshells that form the light trapping layer. With an optimum size and density of SiO2/Au nanoshell light trapping layer, the EPTE could reach up to 40% due to the enhancement of light trapping over a broad spectral range, especially from 500 to 800 nm.

A modified T-matrix method is presented to compute the scattered fields of various realistically shaped particles; then the radiation forces on the particles can be calculated via the Maxwell stress tenser integral. Numerical results of transverse trapping efficiencies of a focused Gaussian beam on ellipsoidal and spherical particles with the same volume are compared, which show that the shape and orientation of particles affect the maximal transverse trapping force and the displacement corresponding to the maximum. The effect of the polarization direction of the incident beam on the transverse trapping forces is also revealed. (c) 2007 Optical Society of America.

Azimuthally polarized beams, focused by a high-numerical-aperture (NA) objective lens, form a hollow intensity distribution near the focus, which is appropriate for trapping low-refractive-index particles, in contrast to common linearly polarized or radially polarized beams. In this paper, the field distribution of the azimuthally polarized beam focused by a high-NA objective is described by the vectorial diffraction integral, and then the radiation forces on spherical particles with different parameters such as radius and refractive index are calculated by the T-matrix method. Numerical results show that the azimuthally polarized beam not only can steadily trap low-refractive-index particles at the focus center but also can trap multiple high-refractive-index particles around the focus center by virtue of the hollow-ring configuration. The range of the sizes of low-refractive-index particles that can be trapped steadily are presented, corresponding to different parameters such as the NA of the objective and the relative refractive index, based on which the NA of the objective can be selected to trap the appropriate size of particles. We describe our research on the employment of an infrared upconversion screen made of electron trapping material (ETM) in combination with the high sensitivity of the S-20 photocathode responsive to visible radiation to produce a streak camera arrangement capable of viewing and recording infrared incident pulses. The ETM-based upconversion screen converts 800-1600 nm infrared radiation to visible light which is viewed or recorded by the S-20 photocathode. The peak values of the upconversion efficiency are located at 1165 nm for CaS:Eu, Sm and 1060 nm for CaS:Ce, Sm. The present experiment showed time resolution was 12.3 ps for a CaS:Eu, Sm screen and 8.4 ps for a CaS:Ce, Sm screen. The minimum detectability is 4.8 x 10(-9) J/mm(2) (minimum detectability of the coupled visible streak camera is 8.3x10(-10) J/mm(2)). Other parameters, such as spatial resolution and dynamic range, have also been measured and analyzed. The results show ETM can be used in the measurement of infrared ultrafast phenomena up to picosecond time domain. In consideration of the limited number of trapped electrons in ETM, the infrared-sensitive streak camera consisting of an ETM-based upconversion screen is suitable to operate in the single shot mode. This paper presents an introduction to the application of ion traps and storage devices for cluster physics. Some experiments involving cluster ions in trapping devices such as Penning traps, Paul traps, quadrupole or multipole linear traps are briefly discussed. Electrostatic ion storage rings and traps which allow for the storage of fast ion beams without mass limitation are presented as well. We also report on the recently developed mini-ring, a compact electrostatic ion storage ring for cluster, molecular and biomolecular ion studies.

A novel strategy for obtaining white electroluminescence (EL) is based on the mechanism of electron trapping on host. Phosphonate-functionalized polyfluorene is chosen as host owing to its strong electron affinity. Electrons are confined mostly by host pendants in the EL process, which suppresses charge transfer from host to dopant. White EL with CIE coordinates of (0.34,0.35) is achieved.

In this work, the detailed conversion process of the dominant electroluminescence (EL) mechanism in a device with Eu(TTA)(3)phen (TTA=thenoyltrifluoroacetone, phen=1,10-phenanthroline) doped CBP (4,4(')-N,N-'-dicarbazole-biphenyl) film as the emitting layer was investigated by analyzing the evolution of carrier distribution on dye and host molecules with increasing voltage. Firstly, it was confirmed that only electrons can be trapped in Eu(TTA)(3)phen doped CBP. As a result, holes and electrons would be situated on CBP and Eu(TTA)(3)phen molecules, respectively, and thus creates an unbalanced carrier distribution on both dye and host molecules. With the help of EL and photoluminescence spectra, the distribution of holes and electrons on both Eu(TTA)(3)phen and CBP molecules was demonstrated to change gradually with increasing voltage. Therefore, the dominant EL mechanism in this device changes gradually from carrier trapping at relatively low voltage to Forster energy transfer at relatively high voltage.

We studied the memory effect in the devices consisting of dye-doped N, N'-di(naphthalene-1-yl)-N, N'-diphenyl-benzidine sandwiched between indium-tin oxide and Ag electrodes. It was found that the on/off current ratio was greatly improved by the doped fluorescent dyes compared with nondoping devices. A mechanism of charge trapping was demonstrated to explain the improvement of the memory effect. For the off state, the conduction process is dominated by the trapping current, which is a characteristic of the space-charge limited current, whereas the on state is dominated by the detrapping current, and interpreted by Poole-Frenkel emission.

本文研究了栖息在高寒地区的高原鼠兔(Ochotona curzoniae)的体温、热代谢和肩胛部BAT随个体发育的变化,讨论了高原鼠兔热代谢发育特征及发育策略。结果表明新生个体具有初步的热调节能力,但环境温度变化时,还不能维持稳定的体温。体重为12.5克的幼体(约1-3日龄),其最低代谢离为3.028(mlO_2/g·h),相对于Kleiber期望值的百分率为167%,热传导率为0.518(mlO_2/g·h· ℃),相对于Bradley-Deavers期望值的百分率为200%,热中性区下临界温度为32.7 ℃。随着个体的发育,最低代谢率趋于下降,但其相对于Kleiber期望值的百分率在体重增长到大约90克前,趋于增加,其后才略有下降,热传导率及其相对于Bradley-Deavers期望值的百分率和热中性区的下临界温度随个体的发育趋于降低。所以在各环境温度下,高原鼠兔的体温随着个体发育表现出上升的变化。高原鼠兔BAT在整个发育时期都存在。刚出生时BAT发达,相对重量高,结构成熟,BAT细胞充满小而多的脂肪滴,线粒分布致密。随着个体发育,BAT相对重量和水分含量均迅速降低,结构呈退化趋势。高原鼠兔幼体主要利用小气候环境和BAT产热抵抗低温压力,高原鼠兔热调节发育的特征和对小气候环境的利用有利于减少体温调节耗能,促进生长发育。而发育到成体时,最低代谢率和热传导率对其期望值的偏离反映出高原鼠兔对西息环境的适应。另外,高原鼠兔通过行为热调节对生理调节加以补充。

A new in situ method was realized by one step laser cladding to produce Ni-base alloy composite coating reinforced by in situ reacted and gradiently distributed TiCp particles. The submicron TiCp particles were formed and uniformly distributed because of the in situ reaction and trapping effect under the rapid solidification condition. And, TiCp particles were of gradient distribution on a macro scale and their volume fraction increased from 1.86% at the layer/substrate interface to a maximum 38.4% at the surface of the layer. Furthermore, the in situ generated TiCp/gamma-Ni interfaces were free from deleterious surface reactions. Additionally, the clad coating also revealed a high microhardness of gradient variation with the layer depth and the superior abrasive wear resistance.

We present an improved procedure on the approach to determine the stability of polystyrene spheres at microscopic particle levels by means of artificially induced particle collisions with the aid of optical tweezers [J.Chem.Phys. 119, 2399(2003)]. The basic consideration on this new development is that the major contribution to the sticking probability for a particle pair caught into the optical trap for a short period is from its single collision; therefore, if the trapping duration for the pair is taken to be short, the accumulated sticking probability will be a good approximation for the single collision. The experimental procedure associated with this approximation does not resort to exactly controlling the short trapping duration or request the trapping duration correction as previously reported and therefore it is more practical and applicable for broader range of the stability ratio. The experimental results under different electrolyte concentrations by the new procedure are consistent with those from the turbidity measurements.

An in situ method was developed to produce an Ni alloy composite coating reinforced by in situ reacted TiC particles with a gradient distribution, using one-step laser cladding with a pre-placed powder mixture on a 5CrMnMo steel substrate. Dispersed and ultra-fine TIC particles were formed in situ in the coating. Most. of the TiC particles, with a marked gradient distribution, were uniformly distributed within interdendritic regions because of the trapping effect of the advancing solid-liquid interface. In addition, the TiC-gamma-Ni interfaces generated in situ were found to be free from any deleterious surface reaction. Finally, the microhardness also showed a gradient variation, with the highest value of 1250 Hv0.2 and the wear properties of the coating were significantly enhanced.

Collisions of a particle pair induced by optical tweezers have been employed to study colloidal stability. In order to deepen insights regarding the collision-sticking dynamics of a particle pair in the optical trap that were observed in experimental approaches at the particle level, the authors carry out a Brownian dynamics simulation. In the simulation, various contributing factors, including the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek interaction of particles, hydrodynamic interactions, optical trapping forces on the two particles, and the Brownian motion, were all taken into account. The simulation reproduces the tendencies of the accumulated sticking probability during the trapping duration for the trapped particle pair described in our previous study and provides an explanation for why the two entangled particles in the trap experience two different statuses.
