Non-stoichiometric mixed-valent molybdenum(VI, V) oxide film was grown on carbon substrates by the electrodeposition method. Responses of the prepared molybdenum oxide thin films to potential and to different solution acidities were studied by cyclic voltammetry, and the corresponding morphological changes of the film were monitored by atomic force microscopy (AFM). AFM images of the molybdenum oxide film show that the characteristic domed structure on the film surface increased during the transition from the oxidized state to the reduced state without signification change in the KMS surface roughness value. Furthermore, AFM studies show that the solution acidity has great effect on the morphology of the films, and the films undergo a homogenizing process with increasing pH of the solutions. The possibility of the formation of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films with dimethyldioctadecylammonium (DODA) after the addition of cobalt(II)-substituted Dawson-type tungstodiphosphate anion (briefed as (H2O)(CoP2W17O618-)-P-11) in the subphase has been explored. Marked modifications of the compression isotherms are observed when this anion is dissolved in the subphase, which demonstrates that the polyanions interact with the monolayers. LB films have been readily obtained from this system. The adsorption Fourier transform IR (FT IR) spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) have been used to investigate the morphological and molecular structure of the deposited film. The FT IR results showed the presence of the polyanion within the LB films, and the shift for its characteristic bands may be related to the presence of positively charged DODA. AFM measurement reveals that the LB films of DODA/(H2O)(CoP2W17O618)-P-II are regularly and uniformly deposited on the substrate. XRD experiments prove that the lamellar structure of the LB films of DODA/(H2O)(CoP2W17O618-)-P-II is well-defined. The LB films of DODA/(H2O)(CoP2W17O618-)-P-II immobilized onto an indium-oxide (ITO) glass, in aqueous solutions of pH 2.0-5.0, show quite facile redox reactions even for multilayers. All the experiments carried out in the present study suggest that the new materials of heteropolyanions can be formed by LB techniques and beneficial physicochemical properties of heteropolyanions can be maintained/enhanced through molecular-level design. Stannic oxide xerogel was prepared by a forced hydrolysis method using SnCl4 as the precursor. The average grain sizes of the nanosized stannic oxide powders varied with the sintering temperatures. The powders were characterized by several different physico-chemical techniques. TEM was employed for the direct observation on grain sizes, shape and state of aggregation of the particles. XRD technique was used for the determination of the crystalline structure. Microstructural parameters of average crystallite size (

The title complex was synthesized and characterized by H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR and IR spectra. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study confirmed its molecular structure and revealed that 3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoyl salicylahydrazone was a tridentate and approximately planar ligand. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1BAR with a = 9.208(3), b = 12.536(2), c = 12.187(4) angstrom, alpha = 113.12(2), beta = 90.58(2), gamma = 81.42(2), V = 1277.5(6) angstrom, Z = 2. The structure was refined to R = 0.033 and R(w) = 0.041 for 3944 observed independent reflections. The tin atom has a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination. The Sn-C bond lengths are 2.129(5) and 2.113(5) angstrom (av. 2.121(5) angstrom), the C-Sn-C angle is 123.3(2); the bond length between the tin atom and the chelating nitrogen is 2.173(3) angstrom. Two chain carbon atoms and the chelating nitrogen atom occupy the basal plane. The skeleton of two erect oxygen atoms and the tin atom is bent (O-Sn-O angle = 153.5(1)). In the complex, the ligand exists in the enol-form.
