Characteristics of white organic light-emitting devices based on phosphor sensitized fluorescence are improved by using a multiple-emissive-layer structure, in which a phosphorescent blue emissive layer is sandwiched between red and green&yellow ones. In this device, bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,C-2] (picolinato), bis(2,4-diphenyl-quinoline) iridium (III) acetylanetonate, fac bis (2-phenylpyridine) iridium, and 5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene are used as blue, red, green, and yellow emitters, respectively.

An amorphous photoluminescent material based on a dithienylbenzothiadiazole structure has been used for the fabrication of organic red-light-emitting diodes. The synergistic effects of the electron-transport ability and exciton confinement of the emitting material allow for the fabrication of efficient pure-red-light-emitting devices without a hole blocker.

We report a high molar extinction coefficient organic sensitizer for high efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells. In combination with a solvent-free ionic liquid electrolyte, we have demonstrated a similar to 7% cell showing an excellent stability measured under the thermal and light soaking dual stress. This is expected to have an important practical consequence on the production of flexible, low-cost, and lightweight DSC based on plastic matrix.

We report a high molar extinction coefficient metal-free sensitizer composed of a triarylamine donor in combination with the 2-(2,2'-bithiophen-5-yl)acrylonitrile conjugation unit and cyanoacrylic acid as an acceptor. In conjugation with a volatile acetonitrile-based electrolyte or a solvent-free ionic liquid electrolyte, we have fabricated efficient dye-sensitized solar cells showing a corresponding 7.5% or 6.1% efficiency measured under the air mass 1.5 global sunlight. The ionic liquid cell exhibits excellent stability during a 1000 h accelerated test under the light-soaking and thermal dual stress. Intensity-modulated photocurrent and photovolatge spectroscopies were employed along with the transient photoelectrical decay measurements to detail the electron transport in the mesoporous titania films filled with these two electrolytes.

A series of organic D-pi-A sensitizers composed of different triarylamine donors in conjugation with the thienothiophene unit and cyanoacrylic acid as an acceptor has been synthesized at a moderate yield. Through tuning the number of methoxy substituents on the triphenylamine donor, we have gradually red-shifted the absorption of sensitizers to enhance device efficiencies.

A new metal-free organic sensitizer (see figure) for high-performance and applicable dye-sensitized solar cells is presented. In combination with a solvent-free ionic liquid electrolyte, a similar to 7% cell made with this sensitizer shows all excellent stability measured under thermal and light-soaking dual stress. For the first time a 4.8% efficiency is reached for all-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells based oil all organic dye.

Organic-inorganic hybrid nanofibers are successfully synthesized by incorporating 3,3 ',5,5 '-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and H2PtCl6 at room temperature. The morphology and size can be simply controlled by tuning the molar ratio and initial concentration of reactants. A possible formation mechanism was suggested on the basis of the experimental results. The optical properties were investigated and the as-obtained product displays a strong fluorescence emission at room temperature that may be promising for applications in the fabrication of photoelectric materials. The crystal structure of Er(PM)(3)(TP)(2) [PM = 1-Phenyl-3-methyl-4-isobutyryl-5-pyrazoloiie, TP = triphenyl phosphine oxide] was reported and its photoluminescence properties were studied by UV-vis absorption, excited, and emission spectra. The Judd-ofelt theory was introduced to calculate the radiative transition rate and the radiative decay time of 3.65 ms for the I-4(13/2) -> I-4(15/2) transition of Er3+ ion in this complex.

Cloisite 30B (30B) was melt-mixed with two kinds of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with different molecular weights to discern the roles of molecular diffusion and shear in the exfoliation process. The higher level of exfoliation was achieved in TPU matrix with higher molecular weight due to the appropriate viscosity. In order to have an insight into the mechanism of exfoliation, the degree of dispersion and exfoliation of 30B was characterized by wide angle X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The layers of 30B were exfoliated via a slippage process, which was also observed in polyamide 12 nanocomposites recently.

We employed organic heterojunction films as all-organic connecting units to fabricate tandem organic photovoltaic cells by continuous deposition. The all-organic connecting units with a better transparence and a lower sublimation temperature became an effective recombination center for electrons and holes photogenerated in front cell and back cell, respectively. Tunnel mechanism was proposed to explain the combination of photogenerated carrier.

A rapid and simple analytical method was developed for the simultaneous and quantitative determination and separation of hydrophilic imidazolium ionic liquids (ILs) (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [C(4)mim]Cl; 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [C(6)mim]Cl; 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [C(8)mim]Cl; 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [Amim]Cl; or 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, [Amim]Br) with miscible ethyl acetate and EtOH and their mixtures using reverse phase liquid chromatography coupled with refractive index detection (RPLC-RI). The influence of 60 to 100% (volume percentage) methanol in the mobile phase on the IL systems ([C(4)mim]Cl, [C(6)mim]Cl, [C(8)mim]Cl, [Amim]Br, or [Amim]Cl)-ethyl acetate-EtOH was investigated.

We realized ambipolar transport behavior in field-effect transistors by using p-p isotype heterojunction films as active layers, which consisted of two p-type semiconductor materials, 2, 2'; 7', 2 ''-terphenanthrenyl (Ph3) and vanadyl-phthalocyanine (VOPc). The ambipolar charge transport was attributed to the interfacial electronic structure of Ph3-VOPc isotype heterojunction, and electrons and holes were accumulated at both sides of the narrow band-gap VOPc and the wide band-gap Ph3, respectively, which were confirmed by the capacitance-voltage relationship of metal-oxide-semiconductor diodes. The accumulation thickness of carriers was also obtained by changing the heterojunction active layer thickness. Furthermore, the results indicate that the device performance is relative to interfacial electronic structures.

We studied the charge transport in organic heterojunction films consisting of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and copper hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (F16CuPc). The heterojunction effect between CuPc and F16CuPc induced high-density carriers at both sides of heterojunction. The Hall effect was observed at room temperature, which demonstrated the existence of free carriers and their delocalized transport under heterojunction effect. The Hall mobility of 1.2 cm(2)/V s for holes and 2.4 cm(2)/V s for electrons indicated that the transport capability of the heterojunction films is comparable to single crystals. The transport process was further explained by the multiple trap-and-release model according to the temperature dependence of conduction.

We report the effect of n-n isotype organic heterojunction consisting of copper hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (F16CuPc) and phthalocyanatotin (IV) dichloride (SnCl2Pc). Their interfacial electronic structure was observed by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM), and there is band bending in two materials, resulting in an electron accumulation region in F16CuPc layer and an electron depletion region in SnCl2Pc layer. The forming of organic heterojunction was explained by carriers flowing through the interface due to thermal emission of electrons. Furthermore, the carrier transport behavior parallel and vertical to heterojunction interface was also revealed by their heterojunction field-effect transistor with normally on operation mode and heterojunction diodes with rectifying property.

A series of novel red-emitting iridium dendrimers functionalized with oligocarbazole host dendrons up to the third generation (red-G3) have been synthesized by a convergent method, and their photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties have been investigated. In addition to controlling the intermolecular interactions, oligocarbazole-based dendrons could also participate in the electrochemical and charge-transporting process. As a result, highly efficient electrophosphorescent devices can be fabricated by spin-coating from chlorobenzene solution in different device configurations.
