The influence of gamma-radiation on polyamide 1010 aggregate structures and crystal damage were examined by using wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. The results revealed that some structural parameters of the aggregated state, the density differences and the degree of crystallinity W-c,W-x, essentially decreased with increasing radiation dose, but the specific surface O-s increased. Crosslinking and scission of irradiated polyamide 1010 samples occurred mainly in amorphous and interphase regions, and crystal damage and amorphization induced by gamma-radiation spread from the interphase and extended into the crystal phase with increasing radiation dose. This result also indicated that the (010) reflection with the hydrogen bond was more susceptible to the action of radiation.

Aimed at raising the room temperature ionic conductivity of PEO-based solid polymer electrolyte and considered that the ionic conduction preferentially occurs in the amorphous phase, we lightly crosslinked the high MW PEO through gamma-irradiation and further suppressed the residual crystallinity by plasticizing with propylene carbonate. By incorporating LiClO4 salt to the above described polymer host, the ambient (25 degrees C) ionic conductivity of the electrolyte system could reach as high as 6.8 X 10(-4) S/cm. As the electrolyte was a crosslinked system, it was mechanically self-supportable. Based on the preliminary results of the electrochemical performance of the secondary lithium battery, assembled by using this kind of solid electrolyte and polyaniline as positive electrode, it is realized that the electrolyte thus prepared is of high expectancy.

Radiation effects on polyamide-1010 specimens having various states of aggregation were studied using wide angle X-ray diffraction, electron spin resonance, calorific and sol measurement techniques. Experimental results indicated that chain crosslinking

Raw polymer and compound of hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) were subjected to gamma-ray irradiation. Crosslinking was found to be the main chemical reaction induced by irradiation; the ratio of chain scission to crosslinking as well as

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has never been reported to form a network structure when subjected to high energy radiation. Results obtained in this work indicates that when irradiation is performed under 330-340-degrees-C in vacuo PTFE can be crosslinked

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is considered to be a typical radiation degradative polymer. In this work the polymer was crosslinked by means of radiation at 335 +/- 5-degrees-C under vacuum. Crosslinked PTFE showed a great improvement in high temperature

In an attempt to explore the effects of structural multiplicity of polymers on the mechanism of radiation crosslinking, the adaptability of the Charlesby-Pinner's equation and its various modified versions are examined. It is recognized that both chemical

Effect of hydrophobic oxide, containing =Si-CH=CH2 groups, on the radiation crosslinking of low density polyethylene (LDPE) has been studied. It was found that mechanical stability of irradiated LDPE containing improved SiO2 is higher than that of samples containing unimproved SiO2.

Melt-crystallized poly(vinylidene fluoride)s (PVF2) with different crystallization histories were irradiated with gamma-rays within the range of irradiation doses 0-83 Mrad. The effects on the crystalline structure and mechanical properties have been measured, compared, and discussed. The degree of crystallinity of the samples was found to increase with radiation dose. The differential scanning calorimeter scans of the quenched samples indicate that there are two melting peaks, and that the area of the lower temperature peak increases while the area of higher temperature peak decreases with increasing dose. Yield stress and breaking stress for all samples are not significantly affected by irradiation but elongation at break is.

In the present work, the mechanism of radiation-induced copolymerization of acrylamide (AM) with sodium acrylate (AANa) in aqueous solution was studied. A method to protect the copolymerization system from the crosslinking and a carbon-carbon mechanism to form gel in copolymerization reaction have been proposed. The condition to prepare the products with different molecular weight, especially with very high molecular weight were found.

The structure of the radiation graft copolymer of acrylic acid onto EVA has been studied by infrared spectroscopy and XPS. It was found that along with the main peak C there is a photoelectron peak at 288.5 eV attributed to [GRAPHICS] group in XPS spectra and the content of its area in XPS increases with increasing of grafting degree of EVA. It was also found that hydrophilicity of EVA increases with the increase of grafting degree.

The effect of gamma-radiation on dynamic viscoelastic properties and thermal behavior for low density polyethylene(LDPE) have been investigated. The store energy modulus (E) of the samples increased after radiation. The beta and alpha transition temperature shifted to higher temperature with increasing irradiation dose. The results of thermal analysis show that crystal melting temperature (Tm), enthalpy(DELTAHm) and crystal disapperance temperature(Td) for irradiated samples decreases with increasing of dose.

In an attempt to explore the effect of structural multiplicity of polymers on the mechanism of radiation crosslinking, the adaptability of the Charlesby-Pinner's equation and its various modified versions are examined. It is recognized that both chemical and morphological multiplicity of polymer structure results in the multiplicity of crosslinking mechanism, and that any single equation can only be applicable to a certain step of the whole radiation process.

The radiation induced phase separation in PTFE as shown by the observation of separation of its melting curves was investigated in this work. The observed phase separation was found to depend on irradiation temperature and explained as being duo to radiation induced increase in disorder of its crystalline region.
