Surface rapid solidification microstructures of AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel and 2024 aluminum alloy have been investigated by electron beam remelting process and optical microscopy observation. It is indicated that the morphologies of the melted layer of both stainless steel and aluminum alloy change dramatically compared to the original materials. Also, the microstructures were greatly refined after the electron beam irradiation.

Pulsed laser beam was used to modify surface processing for ductile iron. The microstructures of processed specimen were observed using optical microscope (OM). Nanoindentation and micro-hardness of microstructures were measured from surface to inner of sample. The experimental results show that, modification zone is consisted of light melted zone, phase transformation hardening area and transient area. The light melt area is made up of coarse dendrite crystalline with a thickness less than 20um, phase transformation hardening area mainly of laminal or acicular martensite, retained austenite and graphite, i.e. M+A prime+ G. The cow-eye microstructure around graphite sphere always is formed in phase transformation hardening area zone, which consisting of a variety structure with the distance from the surface. So, it maybe as a obvious sign distinguishing modification zone border. Finally, the microstructures evolution of laser pulse processed ductile iron was analyzed coupling with beam energy distribution in space and laser pulse heating procession characteristics. The analysis shows that energy distribution of laser pulse has an important effect on microstructure during laser pulse modified ductile iron. Multi-scale and interlace arrangement are the important features for laser pulse modified ductile iron. Of microstructure.

Microstructure of GaN buffer layer grown on (111)MgAl2O4 substrate by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It has been observed that the early deposition of GaN buffer layer on the substrate at a relatively low temperature formed a continual island-sublayer (5 nm thick) with hexagonal crystallographic structure, and the subsequent GaN buffer deposition led to crystal columns which are composed of nano-crystal slices with mixed cubic and hexagonal phases. After high-temperature annealing, the crystallinity of nano-crystal slices and island-sublayer in the buffer layer have been improved. The formation of threading dislocations in the GaN him is attributed not only to the lattice mismatch of GaN/MgAl2O4 interface, but also to the stacking mismatches at the crystal column boundaries. Single-crystalline spinel (MgAl2O4) specimens were implanted with helium ions of 100 keV at three successively increasing fluences of (0.5, 2.0 and 8.0) x 10(16) ions/cm(2) at room temperature. The specimens were subsequently annealed in vacuum at different temperatures ranging from 500 to 1100 degrees C. Different techniques, including Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal desorption spectrometry (TDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the specimens, It was found that the absorbance peak in the FTIR due to the stretching vibration of the Al-O bond shifts to smaller wave numbers with increasing fluence, shifting back to larger wave numbers with an increase of annealing temperature. The absorbance peak shift has a linear relationship with the fluence increase in the as-implanted state, while it does not have a linear relationship with the fluence increase after the annealing process. Surface deformation occurred in the specimens implanted with fluences of 2.0 and 8.0 x 10(16) ions/cm(2) in the annealing process. By means of a surface plastic deformation method a nanocrystalline (NC) intermetallic compound was in situ synthesized on the surface layer of bulk zirconium (Zr). Hardened steel shots (composition: 1.0C, 1.5Cr, base Fe in wt.%) were used to conduct repetitive and multidirectional peening on the surface layer of Zr. The microstructure evolution of the surface layer was investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy observations. The NC intermetallic layer of about 25 gm thick was observed and confirmed by concentration profiles of Zr, Fe and Cr, and was found to consist of the Fe100-xCrx compound with an average grain size of 22 nm. The NC surface layer exhibited an extremely high average hardness of 10.2 GPa. The Zr base immediately next to the compound/Zr interface has a grain size of similar to 250 nm, and a hardness of similar to 3.4 GPa. Mechanical behavior and microstructure evolution of polycrystalline copper with nano-twins were investigated in the present work by finite element simulations. The fracture of grain boundaries are described by a cohesive interface constitutive model based on the strain gradient plasticity theory. A systematic study of the strength and ductility for different grain sizes and twin lamellae distributions is performed. The results show that the material strength and ductility strongly depend on the grain size and the distribution of twin lamellae microstructures in the polycrystalline copper.

利用透射电镜对冷轧变形所致纳米结构金属镍的微结构组织演变特征进行了研究。结果表明,经过轧制变形后,纳米晶的平均晶粒尺寸为50-70mm,有少量位错结构,但没有发现位错堆积缠结;在晶界处及附近有台阶界面结构,以及与台阶形状相对应的应力场衬度。在变形后期,可以靠晶界发射不全位错从而促使层错生成,并依赖层错尺寸长大(即层错界面位错)的运动进行。而当层错尺寸长大时,其前沿局部变形应力逐渐变大,直至该应力大到一定值时,位错停止运动,层错尺寸也不再长大,并留下了台阶结构。

总结和评述了近年来金属与合金变形局部化的形成、微结构演化与剪切断裂方面作者和相关的研究工作成果.材料包括低碳钢,SS304不锈钢,Fe-15%Ni-15%Cr单晶,Al-Li合金,α-Ti和Ti-6Al-4V,Al/SiCp复合材料等.综述内容主要包括:采用改进的Hopkinson扭杆装置,对剪切变形局部化形成、发展和演化过程进行了实验观察与数值模拟;采用"侧剖"与"对接"等定点方法制备电子显微镜薄膜试样,对剪切带内相变与再结晶、非晶转变、旋涡结构等动态变形现象,以及与宏观动态力学行为对应的位错胞的形成、发展和坍塌等微结构特征进行了观测;提出了应变和应变率同时作为剪切带形成的两个必要条件的直接实验证据;在剪切带内发现了α'-马氏体相变现象,以及相变产物与母体之间的晶体学关系;通过位错单滑移或交滑移等微观剪切最后发展成为宏观剪切的机制;对剪切带内再结晶结构的观测和对再结晶动力学本构关系的定量描述;对剪切带特别是"白色"腐蚀带(或相变带)的形成机制的分析和新的解释,指出"白色"是带内亚结构取向趋于一致,其在光学或扫描显微镜下很难辨认这些亚结构的取向差所致,并非表明剪切带内一定发生了相变;通过截断实验和实时跟踪观测发现,剪切带内微裂纹的萌生与聚合是材料承载能力骤然下降并导致最后断裂的主控因素.此外,本文对近年来在准静态和循环加载下材料的局部化形变与剪切断裂的实验结果予以简要评述,指出其微观机制与动态载荷下的截然不同,是由位错的平面滑移所控制的,与热效应无关的等温变形.

A novel pulsed laser surface processing technology is introduced, which can make use of the spatial and temporal profile of laser pulse to obtain ideal hardening parameters. The intensity distribution of laser pulse is spatially and temporally controlled by using laser shape transformation technology. A 3D numerical model including multi-phase transformations is established to explore material microstructure evolution induced by temperature field evolution. The influences of laser spatial-temporal profiles on hardening parameters are investigated. Different from the continuous laser processing technology, results indicate that spatial and temporal profiles are important factors in determining processing quality during pulsed laser processing method.

Multi-track laser cladding is now applied commercially in a range of industries such as automotive, mining and aerospace due to its diversified potential for material processing. The knowledge of temperature, velocity and composition distribution history is essential for a better understanding of the process and subsequent microstructure evolution and properties. Numerical simulation not only helps to understand the complex physical phenomena and underlying principles involved in this process, but it can also be used in the process prediction and system control. The double-track coaxial laser cladding with H13 tool steel powder injection is simulated using a comprehensive three-dimensional model, based on the mass, momentum, energy conservation and solute transport equation. Some important physical phenomena, such as heat transfer, phase changes, mass addition and fluid flow, are taken into account in the calculation. The physical properties for a mixture of solid and liquid phase are defined by treating it as a continuum media. The velocity of the laser beam during the transition between two tracks is considered. The evolution of temperature and composition of different monitoring locations is simulated.

Mg-8Gd-0.6Zr-1RE (RE = La or Ce, wt.%) alloys were prepared by casting. The microstructures, age hardening behavior and mechanical properties were investigated. The results show that the addition of 1 wt.% La or Ce to a Mg-8Gd-0.6Zr alloy reduces the dendrite arm spacing and slightly improves the mechanical properties and age hardening response.

The Mg-8Gd-0.6Zr-xEr (x = 1, 3 and 5 mass%) alloys were prepared by casting technology, and the microstructures, age hardening behaviors and mechanical properties of alloys have been investigated. Microstructures of the alloys are characterized by the presence of rosette-shaped equiaxed grains. The age hardening behaviors and the tensile properties are enhanced by adding Er element. The maximum aged hardness of Mg-8Gd-0.6Zr-5Er alloy is 97, it is nearly 1.24 times higher than that of Er-free alloy.

Mg-8Gd-1Dy-0.3Zn (wt.%) alloy was prepared by high-pressure die-casting technique. The thermal stability, mechanical properties at temperature range from room temperature to 573 K and strengthening mechanism was investigated. The results showed that the die-cast state alloy was mainly composed of fine cellular equiaxed grain. The fine porosity-free skin region was related to the aggregation of rare earth elements. The long lamellar-shaped stacking compound containing Zn and polygon-shaped precipitate were observed along the grain boundaries. The die-cast sample exhibited high mechanical properties and good thermal stability until 523 K.

The ageing behavior of an extruded Mg-7Y-4Gd-0.5Zn-0.4Zr alloy during ageing at 250 degrees C has been investigated. Two types of phases have been observed during the ageing process. One is a lamellar phase with a 14H long periodic stacking structure, the other is the beta' phase with an ellipsoidal morphology. The increased mechanical properties of the peak-aged alloy are mainly ascribed to the presence of both of these phases at peak hardness.
