We have performed a systematic first-principles investigation to calculate the electronic structures, mechanical properties, and phonon-dispersion curves of NpO2. The local-density approximation+U and the generalized gradient approximation+U formalisms have been used to account for the strong on-site Coulomb repulsion among the localized Np 5f electrons. By choosing the Hubbard U parameter around 4 eV, the orbital occupancy characters of Np 5f and O 2p are in good agreement with recent experiments [A. Seibert, T. Gouder, and F. Huber, J. Nucl. Mater. 389, 470 (2009)]. Comparing to our previous study of ThO2, we note that stronger covalency exists in NpO2 due to the more localization behavior of 5f electrons of Np in line with the localization-delocalization trend exhibited by the actinides series.

The electronic structure, elastic constants, Poisson's ratio, and phonon dispersion curves of UC have been systematically investigated from the first-principles calculations by the projector-augmented-wave (PAW) method. In order to describe precisely the strong on-site Coulomb repulsion among the localized U 5f electrons, we adopt the local density approximation (LDA) + U and generalized gradient approximation (GGA) + U formalisms for the exchange correlation term. We systematically study how the electronic properties and elastic constants of UC are affected by the different choice of U as well as the exchange-correlation potential. We show that by choosing an appropriate Hubbard U parameter within the GGA + U approach, most of our calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental data. Therefore. the results obtained by the GGA + U with effective Hubbard parameter U chosen around 3 eV for UC are considered to be reasonable. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The electronic structure and mechanical properties Of UC2 and U2C3 have been systematically investigated using first-principles calculations by the projector-augmented-wave (PAW) method. Furthermore, in order to describe precisely the strong on-site Coulomb repulsion among the localized U 5f electrons, we adopt the generalized gradient approximation +U formalisms for the exchange-correlation term. We show that our calculated structural parameters and electronic properties for UC2 and U2C3 are in good agreement with the experimental data by choosing an appropriate Hubbard U = 3 eV. As for the chemical bonding nature, the contour plot of charge density and total density of states suggest that UC2 and U2C3 are metallic mainly contributed by the 5f electrons, mixed with significant covalent component resulted from the strong C-C bonds. The present results also illustrate that the metal-carbon (U-C) bonding and the carbon-carbon covalent bonding in U2C3 are somewhat weaker than those in UC2, leading to the weaker thermodynamic stability at high temperature as observed by experiments.

The electronic and magnetic properties of YBa2Fe3O8 have been systematically investigated within the framework of density-functional theory using the standard generalized gradient approximation (GGA) as well as the GGA plus Hubbard U(GGA + U) method. The GGA results show that the G-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) state is preferred among the considered magnetic configurations. The striking ionic character is shown for Y and Ba atoms while very strong hybridization is found between Fe 3d and O 2p orbitals

A chiral constituent quark model approach, embodying s- and u-channel exchanges, complemented with a Reggeized treatment for the t channel is presented. A model is obtained allowing data for pi(-)p ->eta n and gamma p ->eta p to be described satisfactorily. For the latter reaction, recently released data by the CLAS and CBELSA/TAPS Collaborations in the system total energy range 1.6 less than or similar to W less than or similar to 2.8 GeV are well reproduced by the inclusion of Reggeized trajectories instead of simple. and. poles. The contribution from "missing" resonances, with masses below 2 GeV, is found to be negligible in the considered processes.

A new phenomenological deformation theory with strain gradient effects is proposed. This theory, which belongs to nonlinear elasticity, fits within the framework of general couple stress theory and involves a single material length scale l. In the present theory three rotational degrees of freedom omega(i) are introduced in addition to the conventional three translational degrees of freedom u(i). omega(i) has no direct dependence upon ui and is called the micro-rotation, i.e. the material rotation theta(i) plus the particle relative rotation. The strain energy density is assumed to only be a function of the strain tensor and the overall curvature tensor, which results in symmetric Cauchy stresses. Minimum potential principle is developed for the strain gradient deformation theory version. In the limit of vanishing 1, it reduces to the conventional counterparts: J(2) deformation theory. Equilibrium equations, constitutive relations and boundary conditions are given in details. Comparisons between the present theory and the theory proposed by Shizawa and Zbib (Shizawa, K., Zbib, H.M., 1999. A thermodynamical theory gradient elastoplasticity with dislocation density Censor: fundamentals. Int. J. Plast. 15, 899) are given. With the same hardening law as Fleck et al. (Fleck, N.A., Muller, G.H., Ashby, M.F., Hutchinson, JW., 1994 Strain gradient plasticity: theory and experiment. Acta Metall. Mater 42, 475), the new strain gradient deformation theory is used to investigate two typical examples, i.e. thin metallic wire torsion and ultra-thin metallic beam bend. The results are compared with those given by Fleck et al, 1994 and Stolken and Evans (Stolken, J.S., Evans, A.G., 1998. A microbend test method for measuring the plasticity length scale. In addition, it is explained for a unit cell that the overall curvature tensor produced by the overall rotation vector is the work conjugate of the overall couple stress tensor. 本文介绍气驱动式U形振荡水楷(U形管)的设计特点、流场品质和初步实验结果。在结构设计上采用了理论计算的弯管型线、步进电机带动蝶阀的控制系统和吸气驱动等较先进的技术措施,使得该设备具有流场品质好、结构简单、调节方便等优点,是开展振荡流实验研究的基本设备。

本文介绍LDA用于测量U形水槽内的振荡流。水槽直管段为正方形,弯管段内侧弯面及外侧弯面是专门计算设计的。对于水平直管段、竖管段及弯管段共七个截面,测量了边界层外振荡流速的振幅分布。对于水平直管段上底面及下底面各三个截面,测量了边界层內振荡流速的振幅分布及相位分布。测量结果和无限长槽道的理论计算结果作了比较,二者基本符合。

报道了一种基于荧光猝灭原理的光纤氧气传感器.采用塑料光纤作为传感和传光元件进行氧气传感,传感头制成U形.以邻菲咯啉钌作为荧光标记物,用溶胶-凝胶法制备敏感材料.采用相移法来实现对荧光寿命的测定.测量了不同弯曲半径传感头对氧气传感的灵敏度,发现当U形光纤的弯曲半径较小时系统的灵敏度较高.对荧光寿命和氧气浓度的关系进行了测量,发现二者呈亚线性关系,提出双荧光体模型解释这一实验现象.

本文提出了一种基于U型塑料光纤和邻啡咯啉钌的溶解氧传感器。光纤传感头放在样品池中,测量了不同氮氧体积比情况下荧光强度和寿命。研究了邻啡咯啉钌的浓度、传感头的退火时间和U型光纤的弯曲半径对系统灵敏度的影响。我们提出了双层模型来解释实验结果不符合S-V方程的实验现象,并用双层模型分析了弯曲半径对系统灵敏度的影响。通过对溶解氧浓度和荧光寿命亚线性曲线的拟合,我们得出敏感层的厚度和S-V系数分别为0.59和0.61。

The magnetic interactions in Ni-doped ZnO are calculated using GGA and GGA + U method of density functional theory. The following three cases: (i) Ni-doped ZnO, (ii) (Ni, Al)-codoped ZnO, and (iii) (Ni, Li)-codoped ZnO are studied. The ferromagnetic ordering is always favorable for the three cases within GGA method. However, the ferromagnetic state is sometimes favorable after treating within the method of GGA + U. The GGA underestimates the correlated interactions especially when the Ni ions align directly to each other. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Amphibian skin contains rich neuropeptides. In the present study, a novel neuromedin U (NmU) analog was isolated from skin secretions of Chinese red belly Load Bombina maxima. Being 17-amino acids long, its primary structure was established as DSSGIVGRPFFLFRPRN-NH2, in which the C-terminal 8-residue segment (FFLFRPRN) is the same as that of rat NmU, while the N-terminal part DSSGIVGRP shows a great sequence variation compared with those of NmU peptides from different resources. The peptide, named Bm-NmU-17, was found to elicit concentration-dependent contractile effects on smooth muscle of rat uterus horns. The cDNA Structure of the peptide, as obtained by a 3'-RACE strategy and subsequently cloning from a skin cDNA library, was found to contain a coding region of 438 nucleotides. The encoded precursor is composed of 145 amino acids with a single copy of Bm-NmU-17 located towards the C-terminus. The sequence of the peptide is preceded by a dibasic site (Lys-Arg) and followed by the sequence of Gly-Arg-Lys, providing the sites of cleavage and releasing of the mature peptide. We perform first-principles calculations of electronic structure and optical properties for UO2 and PuO2 based on the density functional theory using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) + U scheme. The main features in orbital-resolved partial density of states for occupied f and p orbitals, unoccupied d orbitals, and related gaps are well reproduced compared to experimental observations. Based on the satisfactory ground-state electronic structure calculations, the dynamical dielectric function and related optical spectra, i.e., the reflectivity, adsorption coefficient, energy-loss, and refractive index spectrum, are obtained. These results are consistent with the available experiments.

We theoretically investigate resonant tunneling through S- and U-shaped nanostructured graphene nanoribbons. A rich structure of resonant tunneling peaks is found emanating from different quasi-bound states in the middle region. The tunneling current can be turned on and off by varying the Fermi energy. Tunability of resonant tunneling is realized by changing the width of the left and/or right leads and without the use of any external gates.
