Oxide-confined VCSELs that are able to operate at modulation speeds of 10 Gbit/s at operating temperatures up to 85°C are demonstrated. This level of performance makes these VCSELs attractive sources for commercial applications in the computer interconnect industry.

Uncooled directly-modulated 1.3μm VCSELs are shown to exhibit dynamic range, linearity and noise performance required for wireless LAN applications. A multimode fiber based WLAN 802.11b system shows performances comparable to systems with state-of-the-art DFB lasers. © 2005 Optical Society of America.

An integrated EOM VCSELs is shown to offer high linearity (92dB/Hz 2/3 at 6GHz) and by extrapolation ∼90dB/Hz2/3 up to 20GHz. Successful modulation with IEEE 802.11g signals is demonstrated at 6GHz with a 12dB dynamic range. © 2011 Optical Society of America.
