Thermoelastic dissipation in MEMS/NEMS flexural mode resonators.

Understanding the energy dissipation mechanisms in single-crystal silicon MEMS/NEMS resonators are particularly important to maximizing an important figure of merit relevant for miniature sensor and signal processing applications: the Quality factor (Q) of resonance. This paper discusses thermoelastic dissipation (TED) as the dominant internal-friction mechanism in flexural mode MEMS/NEMS resonators. Criteria for optimizing the geometrical design of flexural mode MEMS/NEMS resonators are theoretically established with a view towards minimizing the TED for single-crystal silicon MEMS/NEMS flexural mode resonators.

Seventh European Control Conference (ECC03)

The European Control Conferences (ECC) are held every two years, under the auspices of the European Union Control Association (EUCA). The conference is held at the Faculty of Law on the campus of Cambridge University with the exception of the opening planery talks, which is held at the Corn Exchange in the City Center. The scientific program for the ECC03 included 606 regular papers, three plenary talks, six semiplenary talks, three minicourses, and two roundtable sessions.

Graphene-driven revolutions in ICT and beyond

This session described the FET Flagship Pilot on graphene and related two-dimensional materials. The flagship targets a revolution in information and communication technology, with impacts reaching into other areas of the society.
