An all-optical parity checker is proposed that requires only a single Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Simulation results demonstrate an 8dB improvement in extinction ratio at 10 Gb/s operation. © 1999 Optical Society of America.

We show for the first time that for a given switching pulse width, the maximum switching speed obtainable from a Mach-Zehnder interferometer employing semiconductor optical amplifiers is strongly dependent on the SOA chirp characteristics. © 2005 Optical Society of America.

A modular dilated MZI based optical switch with integrated SOAs is demonstrated with excellent -40dB crosstalk/extinction ratio, 3ns switching time and nearly penalty-free operation. Studies show an 8×8 switch with 14dB IPDR for 0.5dB penalty. © 2014 OSA.
