This paper presents a comparison between the superjunction LIGBT and the LDMOSFET in partial silicon-on-insulator (PSOI) technology in 0.18μm PSOI HV process. The superjunction drift region helps in achieving uniform electric field distribution in both structures but also contributes to the on-state current in the LIGBT. The superjunction LIGBT successfully achieves breakdown voltage (BV) of 210V with Rdson of 765mΩ.mm2. It exhibits reduced specific on-state resistance Rdson and higher saturation current (Idsat) for the same BV compared to a compatible lateral superjunction LDMOS in the same technology. © 2012 IEEE.

Capability loss simulators give designers a brief experience of some of the functional effects of capability loss. They are an effective method of helping people to understand the impact of capability loss on product use. However, it is also important that designers know what levels of loss are being simulated and how they relate to the user population. The study in this paper tested the Cambridge Simulation Glasses with 25 participants to determine the effect of different numbers of glasses on a person's visual acuity. This data is also related to the glasses' use in usability assessment. A procedure is described for determining the number of simulator glasses with which the visual detail on a product is just visible. This paper then explains how to calculate the proportion of the UK population who would be unable to distinguish that detail.

The geological profile of many submerged slopes on the continental shelf consists of normally to lightly overconsolidated clays with depths ranging from a few meters to hundreds of meters. For these soils, earthquake loading can generate significant excess pore water pressures at depth, which can bring the slope to a state of instability during the event or at a later time as a result of pore pressure redistribution within the soil profile. Seismic triggering mechanisms of landslide initiation for these soils are analyzed with the use of a new simplified model for clays which predicts realistic variations of the stress-strain-strength relationships as well as pore pressure generation during dynamic loading in simple shear. The proposed model is implemented in a finite element program to analyze the seismic response of submarine slopes. These analyses provide an assessment of the critical depth and estimated displacements of the mobilized materials and thus are important components for the estimation of submarine landslide-induced tsunamis. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. DYN3D reactor dynamics nodal diffusion code was originally developed for the analysis of Light Water Reactors. In this paper, we demonstrate the feasibility of using DYN3D for modeling of fast spectrum reactors. A homogenized cross sections data library was generated using continuous energy Monte-Carlo code Serpent which provides significant modeling flexibility compared with traditional deterministic lattice transport codes and tolerable execution time. A representative sodium cooled fast reactor core was modeled with the Serpent-DYN3D code sequence and the results were compared with those produced by ERANOS code and with a 3D full core Monte-Carlo solution. Very good agreement between the codes was observed for the core integral parameters and power distribution suggesting that the DYN3D code with cross section library generated using Serpent can be reliably used for the analysis of fast reactors. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. In this paper we propose a new algorithm for reconstructing phase-encoded velocity images of catalytic reactors from undersampled NMR acquisitions. Previous work on this application has employed total variation and nonlinear conjugate gradients which, although promising, yields unsatisfactory, unphysical visual results. Our approach leverages prior knowledge about the piecewise-smoothness of the phase map and physical constraints imposed by the system under study. We show how iteratively regularizing the real and imaginary parts of the acquired complex image separately in a shift-invariant wavelet domain works to produce a piecewise-smooth velocity map, in general. Using appropriately defined metrics we demonstrate higher fidelity to the ground truth and physical system constraints than previous methods for this specific application. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper describes the novel nanocrystalline film ZnO surface acoustic wave devices, which demonstrate their great potential for the portable disease diagnostic system with integrated functions of microfluidic transport, mixing and biosensing. The devices can be easily integrated with electronic control circuitry and fabricated with low temperature process on Si, glass or even polymer substrates. The liquid convection and internal streaming patterns was easily induced by acoustic wave at signal voltages. With further increase in applied voltage to above 20V, the liquid droplet was pushed forward. Immunoreaction-based bio-detection PSA/ACT, all based on SAW devices on thin film piezoelectric ZnO on Si substrate was demonstrated. © 2009 CBMS.
