20 Gb/s QPSK transmission using an electro-optically modulated vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser

20 Gb/s QPSK transmission over 100 m of OM3 fibre using an EOM VCSEL under QPSK modulation is reported. Bit-error-ratio measurements are carried out to express the quality of the transmission scheme. © 2011 OSA.

Turn-off failure mechanism in large area IGCTs

The destruction mechanism in large area IGCTs (Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristors) under inductive switching conditions is analyzed in detail. The three-dimensional nature of the turn-off process in a 91mm diameter wafer is simulated with a two-dimensional representation. Simulation results show that the final destruction is caused by the uneven dynamic avalanche current distribution across the wafer. © 2011 IEEE.

Uncooled DWDM transmission system using tunable laser sources with anti-mode-hop control protocol

We propose an uncooled DWDM system where errors from uncontrolled laser mode-hopping are avoided by using a control protocol based on monitoring SMSR. We describe a proof-of-principle demonstration of a novel uncooled 50GHz DWDM system. © 2011 IEEE.
