[EN] Background: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism of PCR products (PCR-RFLP) are extensively used molecular biology techniques. An exercise for the design and simulation of PCR and PCR-RFLP experiments will be a useful educational tool. Findings: An online PCR and PCR-RFLP exercise has been create that requires users to find the target genes,compare them, design primers, search for restriction endonucleases, and finally to simulate the experiment. Each user of the service is randomly assigned a gene from Escherichia coli; to complete the exercise, users must design an experiment capable of distinguishing among E. coli strains. By applying the experimental procedure to all completely sequenced E. coli, a basic understanding of strain comparison and clustering can also be acquired. Comparison of results obtained in different experiments is also very instructive. Conclusions: The exercise is freely available at http://insilico.ehu.es/edu.

[EN] Purpose. This work aims to present, from the company viewpoint, a structured account of management proposals and practices directed toward improving the intensity and effectiveness of continuous management training (CMT). Design/methodology/approach. The article takes as its main theoretical referents the Theory of Human Capital, the Resource-Based Vision and the contributions made via the new institutional economy with regard to the problems of information asymmetry between companies, employees and training providers and completes the proposals that derive from this theoretical approach. To do this, experience-based contributions are collected from a selection of company training and HR managers from twelve Basque companies characterised by their strong investment in management training. The methodology used was qualitative and obtained by different qualitative techniques: Focus Groups, Nominal Groups and the Delphi Method, which make up the so-called Hybrid Delphi. Findings and implications. The proposals are aimed at the main agents in training activity: training providers, associations and public agents engaged in management training and, particularly, companies themselves. The initiatives seek above all to increase training market transparency, to improve mutual commitments between companies and managers, and to link training and development with culture and strategic management, so that firms make optimal investment in management training. Originality/value. The methodology used is original, and the contributions are consistent with the theory, have a proven practical utility, and are presented in a hierarchy, which facilitates decision making.

[ES] Durante pruebas cíclicas de larga duración ha sido probada que las estrategias para gestionar la fatiga pueden ser un factor determinante. A pesar de ello, este mismo fenómeno no está del todo probado que pueda darse en esfuerzos máximos de corta duración. Es por eso, que el objetivo de este trabajo ha sido analizar si variando el grado de conocimiento de los atletas durante este tipo de pruebas puede darse alguna alteración en su rendimiento. METODO: Siete deportistas varones completaron durante tres diferentes días un mismo protocolo (8 repeticiones máximas de 30 metros con un minuto de recuperación) en el que se varió la información que se les deba. Así, el primer día se les señaló que realizarían 4 repeticiones, pero cuando finalizaron se les indicó que realizarían 4 más (Prueba decepción). El segundo día, no se les informó del número de repeticiones a realizar (Prueba Suspense) y se les mandó parar al realizar la octava. Y por último, el tercer día se les señaló que realizarían 8 repeticiones (Prueba Control). RESULTADOS: Diferencias significativas (p>0.05) se encontraron en los tiempos de las cuatro primeras repeticiones entre la Prueba Suspense y Prueba Decepción. CONCLUSIÓN: Los resultados muestran como en pruebas máximas de corta duración las estrategias de gestión de la fatiga se pueden dar de manera anticipatoria al número de repeticiones a realizar.
