[EN] Neurodegeneration together with a reduction in neurogenesis are cardinal features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) induced by a combination of toxic amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) and a loss of trophic factor support. Amelioration of these was assessed with diverse neurotrophins in experimental therapeutic approaches. The aim of this study was to investigate whether intranasal delivery of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF-Endoret), an autologous pool of morphogens and proteins, could enhance hippocampal neurogenesis and reduce neurodegeneration in an amyloid precursor protein/presenilin-1 (APP/PS1) mouse model. Neurotrophic and neuroprotective actions were firstly evident in primary neuronal cultures, where cell proliferation and survival were augmented by Endoret treatment. Translation of these effects in vivo was assessed in wild type and APP/PS1 mice, where neurogenesis was evaluated using 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BdrU), doublecortin (DCX), and NeuN immunostaining 5 weeks after Endoret administration. The number of BrdU, DCX, and NeuN positive cell was increased after chronic treatment. The number of degenerating neurons, detected with fluoro Jade-B staining was reduced in Endoret-treated APP/PS1 mice at 5 week after intranasal administration. In conclusion, Endoret was able to activate neuronal progenitor cells, enhancing hippocampal neurogenesis, and to reduce Aβ-induced neurodegeneration in a mouse model of AD.

One of the main problems that public institutions face in the management of protected areas, such as the European Natura 2000 network, is determining how to design and implement sustainable management plans that account for the wide range of marketed and non-marketed benefits they provide to society. This paper presents an application of a stated preference valuation approach aimed at evaluating the social preferences of the population of the Basque Country, Spain, for the key attributes of a regional Natura 2000 network site. According to our results, individuals’ willingness-to-pay (WTP) is higher for attributes associated with non-use values (native tree species and biodiversity conservation) than for attributes associated with use values (agricultural development and commercial forestry). The paper concludes that management policies related to Natura 2000 network sites should account for both for the importance of non-use values and the heterogeneity of the population's preferences in order to minimize potential land use conflicts.

Managing protected areas implies dealing with complex social-ecological systems where multiple dimensions (social, institutional, economic and ecological) interact over time for the delivery of ecosystem services. Uni-dimensional and top-down management approaches have been unable to capture this complexity. Instead, new integrated approaches that acknowledge the diversity of social actors in the decision making process are required. In this paper we put forward a novel participatory assessment approach which integrates multiple methodologies to reflect different value articulating institutions in the case of a Natura 2000 network site in the Basque Country. It integrates within a social multi-criteria evaluation framework, both the economic values of ecosystem services through a choice experiment model and ecological values by means of a spatial bio-geographic assessment. By capturing confronting social and institutional conflicts in protected areas the participatory integrated assessment approach presented here can help decision makers for better planning and managing Natura 2000 sites.

Bai gizartean zein hezkuntzan ezaugarri, testuinguru, garapen, behar, interes eta zailtasun desberdinak dituzten ikasleak aurkituko ditugu eta hezkuntzak erantzun inklusibo baten hautua egin behar du aniztasun honen aurrean. Badaude, ordea, ezkutuan, itzalean eta isilean geratzen diren haurrak, beraien beharrei behar bezala erantzuten ez zaienak eta hezkuntza duin bat mugatuta dutenak. Hauek, gaixotasun arraroak dituzten ikasleak dira. Angelman sindromea gaixotasun arraroa da eta lan honen helburua ikasle hauen errealitatea biluztea, kaleratzea eta manifestatzea da. Beraien egunerokotasuneko oztopo eta beharrak ezagutu eta hauei erantzun esanguratsu bat emateko ikerketa da hurrengo hau, bilaketa bibliografiko baten bidez burututakoa. Ikasle hauen hitz egiteko ezintasuna aintzat hartuz, komunikazioaren mundu ezezagun batetan murgiltzeko aukera eskaintzen diguna. Haur hauen isiltasuna garrasi bihurtuko duen lana.

LABURPENA: Gaur egun eskola porrota hezkuntza arloko kezka nagusienetariko bat da, eta honen arrazoietariko bat ikasleen irakurketa arazoak izan daitezke. Dakigunez, eskola-liburutegia irakurketa lantzeko eta sustatzeko gune ezinhobea da, eta hori dela eta, zentroaren ardatza izan beharko litzateke. Eskola-liburutegian, bestalde, irakaskuntzarako metodología berritzaileak praktikan jar daitezke, horretarako baliabideak dituelako, baina eskola askotan oraindik bazterturik agertzen da. Lan honek eskola-liburutegiaren errealitate ezberdinak eta honen funtzionamendu egokia lortzeko baldintzak erakustea helburu du.
