Background: Completing a marathon is one of the most challenging sports activities, yet the source of running fatigue during this event is not completely understood. The aim of this investigation was to determine the cause(s) of running fatigue during a marathon in warm weather. Methodology/Principal Findings: We recruited 40 amateur runners (34 men and 6 women) for the study. Before the race, body core temperature, body mass, leg muscle power output during a countermovement jump, and blood samples were obtained. During the marathon (27 uC; 27% relative humidity) running fatigue was measured as the pace reduction from the first 5-km to the end of the race. Within 3 min after the marathon, the same pre-exercise variables were obtained. Results: Marathoners reduced their running pace from 3.5 6 0.4 m/s after 5-km to 2.9 6 0.6 m/s at the end of the race (P,0.05), although the running fatigue experienced by the marathoners was uneven. Marathoners with greater running fatigue (. 15% pace reduction) had elevated post-race myoglobin (1318 6 1411 v 623 6 391 mg L21; P,0.05), lactate dehydrogenase (687 6 151 v 583 6 117 U L21; P,0.05), and creatine kinase (564 6 469 v 363 6 158 U L21; P = 0.07) in comparison with marathoners that preserved their running pace reasonably well throughout the race. However, they did not differ in their body mass change (23.1 6 1.0 v 23.0 6 1.0%; P = 0.60) or post-race body temperature (38.7 6 0.7 v 38.9 6 0.9 uC; P = 0.35). Conclusions/Significance: Running pace decline during a marathon was positively related with muscle breakdown blood markers. To elucidate if muscle damage during a marathon is related to mechanistic or metabolic factors requires further investigation.

Folate-targeted poly[(p-nitrophenyl acrylate)-co-(N-isopropylacrylamide)] nanohydrogel (F-SubMG) was loaded with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) to obtain low (16.3 +/- 1.9 mu g 5-FU/mg F-SubMG) and high (46.8 +/- 3.8 mu g 5-FU/mg F-SubMG) load 5-FU-loaded F-SubMGs. The complete in vitro drug release took place in 8 h. The cytotoxicity of unloaded F-SubMGs in MCF7 and HeLa cells was low; although it increased for high F-SubMG concentration. The administration of 10 mu M 5-FU by 5-FU-loaded F-SubMGs was effective on both cellular types. Cell uptake of F-SubMGs took place in both cell types, but it was higher in HeLa cells because they are folate receptor positive. After subcutaneous administration (28 mg 5-FU/kg b.w.) in Wistar rats, F-SubMGs were detected at the site of injection under the skin. Histological studies indicated that the F-SubMGs were surrounded by connective tissue, without any signs of rejections, even 60 days after injection. Pharmacokinetic study showed an increase in MRT (mean residence time) of 5-FU when the drug was administered by drug-loaded F-SubMGs.

En este trabajo se ha utilizado el modelo de Solow con el objetivo de estudiar el crecimiento económico. Se define la tasa de ahorro de la regla de oro (aquella que permite un mayor consumo para los individuos) y se calcula el capital, el consumo y la producción en el estado estacionario. Basándonos en el modelo de Solow y mediante un ejercicio, mostramos que cuando la tasa de crecimiento del progreso tecnológico, gA, es positiva y crece de una forma continuada, obtiene aumentos de todas las variables (consumo, producción y capital) también de una forma continuada. Por el contrario, si el estado de la tecnología, A, aumentase solo en un periodo, obtendríamos un valor mayor para cada variable pero este aumento no se mantendría de forma continuada, ya que las tasas de crecimiento volverían a su nivel inicial. Finalmente proponemos diferentes medidas para fomentar el crecimiento económico, entre las que destacan el fomento del progreso tecnológico, gA, y la inversión en capital público y capital humano.

[EN] This paper reports an innovative technique for reagents storage in microfluidic devices by means of a one-step UV-photoprintable ionogel-based microarray on non-modified polymeric substrates. Although the ionogel and the ink-jet printing technology are well published, this is the first study where both are used for long-term reagent storage in lab-on-a-chip devices. This technology for reagent storage is perfectly compatible with mass production fabrication processes since pre-treatment of the device substrate is not necessary and inkjet printing allows for an efficient reagent deposition process. The functionality of this microarray is demonstrated by testing the release of biotin-647 after being stored for 1 month at room temperature. Analysis of the fluorescence of the ionogel-based microarray that contains biotin-647 demonstrated that 90% of the biotin-647 present was released from the ionogel-based microarray after pumping PBS 0.1% Tween at 37 °C. Moreover, the activity of biotin-647 after being released from the ionogel-based microarray was investigated trough the binding capability of this biotin to a microcontact printed chip surface with avidin. These findings pave the way for a novel, one-step, cheap and mass production on-chip reagents storage method applicable to other reagents such as antibodies and proteins and enzymes.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common autosomal codominant disease with a frequency of 1:500 individuals in its heterozygous form. The genetic basis of FH is most commonly mutations within the LDLR gene. Assessing the pathogenicity of LDLR variants is particularly important to give a patient a definitive diagnosis of FH. Current studies of LDLR activity ex vivo are based on the analysis of I-125-labeled lipoproteins (reference method) or fluorescent-labelled LDL. The main purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of these two methods to assess LDLR functionality in order to validate a functional assay to analyse LDLR mutations. LDLR activity of different variants has been studied by flow cytometry using FITC-labelled LDL and compared with studies performed previously with I-125-labeled lipoproteins. Flow cytometry results are in full agreement with the data obtained by the I-125 methodology. Additionally confocal microscopy allowed the assignment of different class mutation to the variants assayed. Use of fluorescence yielded similar results than I-125-labeled lipoproteins concerning LDLR activity determination, and also allows class mutation classification. The use of FITC-labelled LDL is easier in handling and disposal, cheaper than radioactivity and can be routinely performed by any group doing LDLR functional validations.

Tras el atentado del 7 de enero de 2015 al semanario francés Charlie-Hebdo por las ofensivas caricaturas sobre Mahoma, se ha reabierto el debate acerca del conflicto entre la libertad de expresióny los sentimientos religiosos. Ante la necesidad de ponderar ambos derechos fundamentales, la finalidad de este trabajo es analizar los sentimientos religiosos como límite de la libertad de expresión, en base a diferentes documentos del Consejo de Europa acerca de esta materia y la jurisprudencia del Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos. Finalmente, los elementos analizados darán respuesta al caso concreto de las caricaturas.

Honetarako errebisio lan bat egin dut, eginak dauden ikerketak aztertuz. Errebisio bibliografiko honekin konturatu naiz, Fibromialgia gaixotasunaren inguruan oraindik asko gelditzen da ikertzeko, baina ikertutakoarekin baieztatu daitekeela, gehien gomendatzen den tratamendu ez farmakologikoa jarduera fisikoa dela, eta jarduera fisikoaren barruan, uretan egiten diren jarduerak

El presente Trabajo Fin de Grado consiste en analizar la información contable suministrada por las cuentas anuales de una sociedad anónima. Dicho análisis se ha llevado a cabo desde un punto de vista amplio y no únicamente centrándose en el cálculo de ratios, procurando mantener la relación entre el entorno y la estrategia a seguir de la empresa con el análisis de los estados contables.
