Tidal oscillations at the head of Monterey Submarine Canyon and their relation to oceanographic sampling and the circulation of water in Monterey Bay. Annual report, Part 6, September 1972

During a 25-hour hydrographic times series at two stations near the head of Monterey Submarine Canyon, an internal tide was observed with an amplitude of 80 to 115 m in water depths of 120 and 220 m respectively. These large oscillations produced daily variations in hydrographic and chemical parameters that were of the same magnitude as seasonal variations in Monterey Bay. Computed velocities associated with the internal tide were on the order of 10 em/sec, and this tidally induced circulation may have a significant role in the exchange of deep water between Monterey Submarine Canyon and the open ocean. The efficiency of plankton in the utilization of the sun radiation [Translation from: Briroda, 12, 29-35, 1948]

The efficiency of utilisation of the sun's radiation by natural communities has not been properly demonstrated with what so far has been obtained of reliable values, and it represents a great interest in many respects. A systematic study of the biotic balance of lakes was done in the course of a succession of summers starting in 1932, extensive material was obtained, which permitted to compute a value fear the utilisation of the sun's radiation by plankton in lakes, and to compare this with corresponding values for marine plankton and terrestrial vegetation.

Quality of fishmeal processed from sun-dried fish in a commercial fishmeal dryer

The physical and chemical compositions of the raw materials received and the composition and nutritive values of the finished products in a commercial size fish meal plant employing the dry rendering process were studied and reported in this paper.

On sun-drying of Bombay duck

Sun-drying of Bombay duck by hanging on scaffolds gave better products than those obtained by drying them in trays. Optimum rate of drying and quality of dried product were obtained when the fish were suspended at the rate of 50 to 60 per meter length of the rope. The quality of the raw material as affected by the delays in different hauls in the fishing trip was reflected in the dried products also.
