Early illustrated book about fish, fishing and fisheries by one of the preeminent scientific investigators of the French enlightenment. This work deals extensively with the species of fish found in Europe and beyond, their habits and habitats, techniques and equipment used in fishing and fish processing, and many other aspects of these endeavours. Roughly 185 engraved plates illustrate the text. The scans for this version come from 3 volumes bound in two parts in folio.

Since 1974 we have been collecting statistics on the main fishing gears in the ivorian lagoons. In order to get good estimation of the catches, it is often more convenient to measure the fishes and to convert this data into weights through a length-weight relationship. In this work we computed this relation for 43 species found in the Aby and Ebrié lagoons.

A taxonomic assessment of fish species was carried out in the Lake Ayamé as a preliminary evaluation within the framework of a project to appraise the biodiversity changes occurred in fish after the construction of a dam at Ayamé in 1959.

Six populations of Ethmalosa fimbriata and six of Sarotherodon melanotheron have been analysed using enzymatic electrophoresis. The study of gene flow intensity in these two species indicate that: - In Ethmalosa fimbriata, a migratory species with high fecundity and pelagic eggs, there is a high gene flow between populations (3 Nm 83). - In Sarotherodon melanotheron, a sedentary and mouthbrooder species with low fecundity, there is a low gene flow between populations (1 Nm 4).

This paper describes the fishery of Côte d'Ivoire and its evolution to the present day. The location of fishing off Côte d'Ivoire is specified for each area and each type of trawler. A comparison of productivity between the different areas shows disparities that allow to make clearer the repartition of effort of all types of trawlers in each area. The Côte d'Ivoire continental shelf is populated with demersal stocks of homogeneous densities.

The authors have developed the method used by Pianet and Le Hir (Doc.Sci.Cent. ORSTOM Pointe-Noire, 17, 1971) for the study of albacore (Thunnus albacares) in the Pointe-Noire region. The method is based on the fact that the ratio between unit of effort and number of fish for two fishing gears is equal to the ratio of their catchability coefficients.

Stomach contents from 21 species of demersal fish caught on Grand Bassam (Côte d'Ivoire) fishing grounds at 20 and 35 m depth are analyzed. The results are compared with those of Longhurst (1957, 1960). The great importance of Crustacea in the food of those species appears clearly. A representative scheme of the diet is suggested.

Flying fish is an important fishery resource in most of the Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam where artisanal fishing methods are applied. This study deals with an investigation on the Touran fishing area. In this region, fishing operations have never been studied neither in Vietnam nor in neighboring countries. The survey of fishing grounds was conducted by Mr. Nguyen-Chua, and data was collected by Tran-văn-Tri.
