Ground-water resources of the lower Hillsboro Canal area, Southeastern Florida

This study was done to determine the amount and kinds of water being produced from the lower Hillsboro Canal Area in Palm Beach and Broward counties. All of the potable ground water being produced from the Biscayne aquifer is developed from the canal through infiltration. Rainfall in the area is the ultimate source for all of the water. Careful control and management will allow the development of large quantities of water from the canal toward Lake Okeechobee, but a fresh water head must be maintained along the contact of fresh water with sea water to prevent salt water intrusion. Recovery of a leucosid crab Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 from Arabian Sea fish

On two occasions Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 has been recovered from the stomachs of Batrochus grunniens (Linnaeus, 1758) caught with commercial fish. Nursia abbreviata has been previously recorded from Karachi by Alcock (1896). The present specimens afford the first subsequent record of the species from the region, and are represented by only two males recovered from fish stomachs. The only other species of the genus from Pakistan is N. Rubifera Muller, 1866 which is common in shore collections (Tirmizi and Kazmi, 1988). A brief description of the present material is given below.

The Trichoptera collected in Sri Lanka by the Austrian Indo-Pacific expedition in autumn and winter 1970 (larvae and adults) are evaluated systematically and ecologically. The following new species are described: Pseudoneureclipsis starmuehlneri, P. maliboda (Polycentropodidae), Oecetis belihuloya (Leptoceridae), and Helcopsyche sri lanka (Helicopsychidae). Helicopsyche ceylanica Brauer 1866 is re-described. Several types of larvae and cases of Hydropsyche (Hydropsychidae), Ceylanopsyche (Sericostomatidae) and Helicopsyche are described or at least roughly characterised. According to the larval characters the genus Ceylanopsyche seems to belong to Sericostomatidae s. str.
