Ictiólogos de la Argentina: Eduardo Ladislao Holmberg.

This series will include all those people who, by means of their contributions, great and small, played a part in the consolidation of ichthyology in Argentina. The general plan of this work consists of individual factsheets containing a list of works by each author, along with reference bibliography and, whenever possible, personal pictures and additional material. The datasheets will be published primarily in chronological order, although this is subject to change by the availability of materials for successive editions. This work represents another approach for the recovery and revalorization of those who set the foundations of Argentine ichthyology while in diverse historical circumstances. I expect this to be the beginning of a major work that achieves the description of such a significant part of the history of natural sciences in Argentina. Hugo L. López (Texto en espanol. Un tal Eduardo Ladislao…

Esta serie tiene como objetivo rescatar parte de las reflexiones, ideas, pensamientos, comentarios… de aquellos que transitaron el complejo y fascinante camino de las Ciencias Naturales. Por ello, a través de estas líneas, hago una fuerte convocatoria para que colegas de diferentes disciplinas se acerquen para colaborar con esta idea, ya sea desde este espacio o de cualquier otro. Se preguntaran ¿para qué? y ¿por qué? Yo creo que es una manera de reflejar diferentes contextos históricos y acercar nuestros referentes a las jóvenes generaciones. Esto último me parece muy importante, ya que existe una tendencia generalizada de obviar parte del pasado, lo que dificulta comprender el presente y proyectar el futuro.

Use of genetic data to assess the uncertainty in stock assessments due to the assumed stock structure: the case of albacore (Thunnus alalunga) from the Atlantic Ocean

Stock assessments can be problematic because of uncertainties associated with the data or because of simplified assumptions made when modeling biological processes (Rosenberg and Restrepo, 1995). For example, the common assumption in stock assessments that stocks are homogeneous and discrete (i.e., there is no migration between the stocks) is not necessarily true (Kell et al., 2004a, 2004b).
