Channel Islands Deep Water Monitoring Plan Development Workshop Report April 26-27, 2005 University of California, Santa Barbara

In 2003, twelve marine protected areas were established in state waters (0-3 nmi) surrounding the Channel Islands. NOAA is considering extending this network (3-6 nmi) into deeper waters of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS). In order for effective long-term management of the deep water reserves to occur, a well-structured monitoring program is required to assess effectiveness. The CINMS and the National Marine Sanctuary Program (NMSP) hosted a 2-day workshop in April 2005 to develop a monitoring plan for the proposed federal marine reserves in that sanctuary. Conducted at the University of California at Santa Barbara, participants included scientists from academic, state, federal, and private research institutions. Workshop participants developed project ideas that could answer priority questions posed by the NMSP. This workshop report will be used to develop a monitoring plan for the reserves. Central Area Fisheries Advisory Committee 1st April, 1981

This is the report from the Central Area Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 1st April, 1981. It covers information on Rivers Leven and Kent fish distribution and water quality surveys 1980, authority works on Headwater Beck of the River Hodder and the River Douglas, the annual report on match fishing at Skerton and Mitton fisheries and the report by the area fisheries officer on fisheries activities. This comments on river conditions and fishing, migratory fish movement,an update on Middleton hatchery, salmon cages in Dalton-in-Furness, and Langcliffe hatchery. Finally the report adds about stockings by the authority, fish mortalities, fish disease and the monthy catches of salmon and sea trout for the 1980 season. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

Southern Area Fisheries Advisory Committee 8th April, 1981

This is the report from the Southern Area Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 8th April, 1981. It includes the report by the area fisheries officer on fisheries activities between December 1980 to February, 1981. This comments on river conditions and fishing, and an update on Hollingworth and the pilot hatchery, salmon cages in Dalton-in-Furness, and Langcliffe hatchery. Finally the report adds about stockings of coarse fish and non migratory trout added by the Angling Associations, fish mortalities and fish disease. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

This is the report from the Central Area Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 13th October, 1982. The report contains sections on Rod and Line Fishing Licences Format, Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 for River Lune, a proposed Pike Ranching Scheme on Esthwaite Water and Fisheries Activities. The section on fisheries activities is reported by the area fisheries officer and includes river conditions and fishing, migratory movement, hatcheries, (Middleton, Dalton in Furness, Langcliffe), stocking, poaching and management works. Kent estuary survey 18th August 1981

This is the Kent estuary survey 18th July 1981 produced by the North West Water Authority in 1981. The report focuses on a tidal cycle survey carried out on the Kent estuary on the 18th August, 1981. The chemical water quality at Arnside Pier and at New Barns was, on the whole, acceptable. However, samples taken downstream of the outfall at low water for total coliforms and E. coli were all above the EEC mandatory level whilst those for faecal streptococci were all above the guideline value. This document shows chemical and bacteriological data analysed at Kent estuary such chloride, dissolved oxygen, BOD, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, total coliforms, E. coli and Faecal streptococci.

The 66 k-Da protein identified as a light meromyosin is involved in the setting of surimi

The 66 kilo-Dalton (k-Da) protein split off from the cross linked myosin heavy chain (CMHC) formed due to the setting of Alaska pollack surimi, frozen-storage of Pacific cod flesh, and vinegar-curing of Pacific mackerel mince was identified as a light meromyosin (LMM). Puncture and stress-relaxation tests showed that the actomyosin subunits (AMS) of Alaska pollack surimi, upon setting at 30°C, transformed into gel, although the elasticity of this gel was very low when compared to the gels from surimi or actomyosin (AM). Electrophoretic studies showed that the band due to LMM in the gel from AMS gradually disappeared with the progress of setting but higher molecular weight polymer did not form. The intensity of the bands due to other myosin sub-fragments decreased a little. The findings suggest that at setting temperature, LMM of MHC molecule leads to an unfolding resulting in an intramolecular aggregation through non-covalent interactions, and thus plays a significant role in the crosslinking of MHC.
