The role of ciliates in the pelagic life cycle of the Mediterranean [Translation from: Rapports et Proces Verbaux des Reunions-Conseil International pour l'Exploration de la Mer 17, 511-512, 1963]

During hydrographic and plankton studies carried out since 1960 in the coastal zone between the Ebro and Castellon (western Mediterranean), data has been collected which confirms the importance of ciliates in the composition and activity of the plankton. The ciliates in 413 samples of 100 ml of water were counted, having been examined with the Utermohl microscope after sedimentation. Doses efficaces en glyphosate et en 2,4-D pour le contrôle chimique des laitue d'eau (Pistia stratiotes, Linn.) et toxicité du glyphosate vis-à-vis des tilapias (Sarotherodon melanotheron)

The toxic effects of two herbicides Round up (gliphosate) and 2,4-D (herbazol) were tested on Pistia stratiotes (Linn. Araceae) samples cultivated in glass aquariums. The gliphosate appears to be more toxic on Pistia Stratiotes than 2,4-D. It was then tested on tilapia Sarotherodon melanotheron juveniles. The lethal dose for tilapia (CL50 = 13.25 mg.l -1) is about 18, 37 and 74 times higher than the glyphosate toxic dose for plants at 1, 2 and 4 meters water depth respectively.

Étude préliminaire sur l'incorporation de liants dans un aliment composé pour poisson d'élevage en Côte d'Ivoire

Artificial feeding constitutes a very important aspect for intensive fish culture. Then, the physical properties, particularly water stability of feed, wider influence the fish production. By trying to find some answers to these problems, a preliminary study on water stability has been conducted at the LAYO aquaculture research station. This work consisted in incorporating different types of binders available in tropical countries in fish pellets of 3.5 mm and 6.0 mm diameters in order to identify an efficient binder allowing the improvement of the water stability of feed. From this experiment, it comes out that the use of wheat flour (A1) gives excellent quality pellets followed by cassava flour residue (A3). Moreover, this study shows that it exists an influence of the diameter on the crumbling of the pellets.

Essais d'utilisation de "nourrisseur à la demande" pour l'alimentation de Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus en cage-enclos

An experiment using demand feeder was carried out on the catfish Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus reared in cage-enclosure in the lagoon Ebrié (Côte d'Ivoire). The study lasted 5 months, from October to March, and showed that the demand feeder improves the growth rate of the fish and the feed conversion. It was able, as well as the conventional hand feeding, to show monthly variations of performances.

Founded in 1959, the Centre de Recherches Océanographiques is now twenty years old. During its existence, its administrative structure and its internal organization have considerably changed. It is now a research center placed under the supervision of the State Secretary for Scientific Research but, for management, it has been committed to the care of Orstom, a French organization specialized into scientific and technological research in the developing countries. Orstom also partially finances the research work, whose aims are decided by special commissions, which in their choices take into account the fundamental options of the plans of development of the government of Côte d'Ivoire.

Choix d'une unité d'effort de pêche pour les flottilles sardinières sémi-industrielles et artisanales au Sénégal

Different catches per unit of effort available for industrial and artisanal sardinella fisheries of Senegal have been analysed and compared in order to determine whether they are acceptable indices of abundance. Among the four units of fishing effort studied (total number of sets, number of trips, time spent on fishing ground, searching time), the first and the second seem inadequate in the studied fleets. The two other units, particularly the searching time, allow the calculation of catches per unit of effort which best reflect variations in abundance, although they are not completely free of usual deficiencies.

Il ne prétend pas donner une interprétation de ses dispositions, ni remplacer la lecture du texte officiel. Il s’agit essentiellement d’aider ceux qui ne connaissent rien de ce nouveau document, et connaissent mal le fonctionnement de l’OIT et de la CIT, à se faire une idée des sujets traités. On espère que ce guide permettra notamment aux pêcheurs et à leurs organisations de comprendre les avantages potentiels et les répercussions de la nouvelle Convention sur la pêche artisanale et à petite échelle des pays en développement.
