Intensive small scale cage, pen and enclosure fish production systems: towards 2010

A brief review of most of the publications by the author and other relevant workers on the three water-based fish culture systems was made. The present status of the culture systems in the National Food/Fish Programmes was highlighted. Strategies were advanced towards a successful implementation of the intensive water-based culture systems project as a contribution towards alleviating poverty, hunger and malnutrition under the concept of VISION 2010

The significance of scale patterns and scale readings in the life history and habits of the salmon

This brief reports highlights the significance of scale readings of salmon. The reasons for colour change of scales and scale rings are briefly explained. Scale readings of salmon fry from the River Lune in the north west of England are presented. The salmon was captured in 1957/58.

Assessing and managing the resources available to the Senegalese small-scale fisheries

A brief account of the evolution and structure of the marine fisheries of Senegal, West Africa, is presented, with emphasis on the small-scale subsector and on the major recommendations of an international symposium/workshop on this topic, held on February 1993 in Dakar.
