En este documento se recuerda la figura del Doctor Humberto Antonio Fabris (1924-1976), investigador y docente de la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo.

Charles M. Breder, Jr.: Palmetto Key, 1942

Charles M. Breder and his wife Ethel spent part of the summer of 1942 at the Palmetto Key field station, known today as Cabbage Key, on the west coast of Florida south of Charlotte Harbor. The Palmetto Key field station began in 1938 and ended in 1942 because of World War II. His Palmetto Key diary ran for 95 pages of notes, tables, diagrams, drawings, lists, and business records and this report presents a variety of fascinating entries. Diaries from other years all bear Breder's style of discipline, curiosity, humor, and speculations on nature. The diary was transcribed as part of the Coastal Estuarine Data/Document Rescue and Archeology effort for South Florida. (PDF contaons 24 pages)

Ictiólogos de la Argentina: Camilo Antonio Daneri

This series will include all those people who, by means of their contributions, great and small, played a part in the consolidation of ichthyology in Argentina. The general plan of this work consists of individual factsheets containing a list of works by each author, along with reference bibliography and, whenever possible, personal pictures and additional material. The datasheets will be published primarily in chronological order, although this is subject to change by the availability of materials for successive editions. This work represents another approach for the recovery and revalorization of those who set the foundations of Argentine ichthyology while in diverse historical circumstances. I expect this to be the beginning of a major work that achieves the description of such a significant part of the history of natural sciences in Argentina.

Semblanzas Ictiológicas Iberoamericanas: Antonio José Machado-Allison

A través de esta nueva serie tratamos de conocer diferentes aspectos personales de los integrantes de la comunidad ictiológica iberoamericana. Esta iniciativa, comparte el espíritu y objetivo de las semblanzas nacionales buscando informalmente, otro punto de unión en la “comunidad de ictiólogos iberoamericanos”. Quizás esté equivocado en mi apreciación, pero creo que vale la pena este intento, ya que, con la colaboración generosa e insoslayable de los integrantes de este “universo”, señalaremos un registro en el tiempo de la Ictiología Neotropical.

Comportamiento reproductivo del lobo marino sudamericano

En la evolución de los lobos sudamericanos, son varios los factores que modelaran sus comportamientos reproductivos y las diferencias entre los sexos que podemos observar en la naturaleza. Una de las principales características es la capacidad de desarrollar un comportamiento reproductivo plástico y cambiante. La influencia de las variaciones ecológicas sobre los sistemas reproductivos modelan las características de las estrategias reproductivas en los pinnípedos, y el lobo marino sudamericano es un ejemplo de ello. Se describen estrategias reproductivas y del comportamiento de la especie Otaria flavescens que ha sido estudiada en detalle en la peníncula de Valdés, Argentina (océano Atlántico sudoccidental).
