Ictiólogos de la Argentina: Mariano Narciso Antonio José Castex

This series will include all those people who, by means of their contributions, great and small, played a part in the consolidation of ichthyology in Argentina. The general plan of this work consists of individual factsheets containing a list of works by each author, along with reference bibliography and, whenever possible, personal pictures and additional material. The datasheets will be published primarily in chronological order, although this is subject to change by the availability of materials for successive editions. This work represents another approach for the recovery and revalorization of those who set the foundations of Argentine ichthyology while in diverse historical circumstances. I expect this to be the beginning of a major work that achieves the description of such a significant part of the history of natural sciences in Argentina.

Lista de los peces de la provincia de San Juan

Esta serie tiene como finalidad dar a conocer las especies presentes en los diferentes estados provinciales. Tomando como base los trabajos de López et al., (2003); Reis et al., (2003); Liotta (2006) y Ferraris (2007) hemos actualizado el elenco ictiofaunístico en cada territorio provincial, siguiendo la macrosistemática de Nelson (2006). No se realizan, con excepción del nombre vulgar y localidad tipo, comentarios ni observaciones sobre las especies señaladas ya que estos se encuentran en la bibliografía adjunta. Se incluyen dos tablas que contienen información sobre especies introducidas y de aquellas de presencia dudosa o que requieren confirmación en el territorio provincial. En este último caso se cita el trabajo que las menciona por primera vez. Consideramos que este modesto aporte contribuirá a precisar el conocimiento ictiofaunístico regional ya que además de la lista de especies, presentamos el marco biogeográfico e hídrico correspondiente. Por otra parte, entendemos que la participación de autores involucrados en la región considerada, le da un verdadero sentido federal a esta contribución, además de reforzar vínculos entre los protagonistas de nuestra especialidad. En este nuevo número, presentamos la provincia de San Juan que se encuentra enclavada en el centro-oeste de nuestro territorio, limitada por las provincias de La Rioja, Mendoza y San Luis. Se presenta por primera vez una lista exhaustiva de la ictiofauna de la provincia de San Juan basada en la revisión bibliográfica y de material de referencia de las colecciones Ictiológicas de la Universidad Nacional de San Juan y del Museo de La Plata. Se citan 21 especies, de las cuales 15 no habían sido mencionadas con anterioridad (Arratia et al., 1983; Murúa y Acosta, 1997; Liotta, 2006). Ocho especies han sido introducidas principalmente con fines deportivos. Se menciona la presencia de Percichthys chilensis, lo que constituiría el primer registro formal de esta especie ya que López-Arbarello (2004) la menciona para el Río Tunuyán (Mendoza), sin material de referencia.

Este documento reproduce parte de la magnífica e importante obra del P. Francisco José Sánchez Labrador realizada durante su estadía en América desde su arribo en 1734 hasta la expulsión de la orden en 1767. Esta versión digital corresponde al libro editado por la Compañía General Fabril Editora S. A. en 1968 y cuyo manuscrito fuera preparado bajo la dirección del Dr. Mariano N. Castex (imagen).

Lista comentada de la ictiofauna del Canal Beagle, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Iconografía.

A ciento veintidós años de las primeras menciones realizadas por Perugia en 1891 sobre peces del Canal Beagle, editamos la presente iconografía que incluye alrededor de treinta especies de las mencionadas por López et al., en 1996. Este trabajo, desarrollado en el CADIC dentro del proyecto Biología de los recursos ictícos del Canal de Beagle financiado por el CONICET, junto al publicado por Lloris y Rucabado (1991), proveyeron elementos de base para tener una visión más profunda del componente ictiofaunistíco de la región. En la presente publicación se destaca la magnífica obra del maestro Miguel Barbagallo, quién vuelca su capacidad y espíritu en estas láminas, las que además de su valor artístico son un aporte más a la consolidación del conocimiento de los recursos naturales de nuestro país.

Dibujantes de la Argentina: Edmundo Maristany.

En esta colección de la Serie Documentos presentamos a los dibujantes y artistas que pasaron por nuestra institución, lo que representa una tarea nada fácil. Sin embargo, con las imperfecciones del caso, iniciamos este trabajo esperando que, en un futuro próximo, esta iniciativa sea continuada dentro de las diferentes Divisiones que conforman la estructura de nuestro Museo. En este primer artículo mostramos algunas de las imágenes que pudimos rescatar de Edmundo Maristany, una figura polifacética, ya que, entre sus logros se encuentra el descubrimiento de un cometa que hoy lleva su nombre y el escrito de sonetos publicados en la década del cincuenta. A través de sus dibujos de vertebrados, sabemos que trabajó para el Dr. Emiliano Mac Donagh en el Museo de La Plata y para el Dr. Carlos Marelli en el Jardín Zoológico de nuestra ciudad.

Lista de peces de la provincia de Entre Ríos

Los censos de la fauna de un país o región cualquiera, constituyen una suerte de codificación de la Naturaleza, como paso previo e indispensable para un ensayo racional de aprovechamiento de las riquezas naturales y de su adecuada conservación. Desde fines del siglo XVIII se ha dicho, y lo han repetido en nuestro medio, Cosme Argerich, Alberto Palcos y otros estudiosos y cientistas, que un Código de la Naturaleza es indispensable para la libertad de una nación” (Ringuelet y Arámburu, 1957).

Lista de los peces de la provincia de Jujuy

Esta serie tiene como finalidad dar a conocer las especies presentes en los diferentes estados provinciales. Tomando como base los trabajos de López et al. 2003), Reis et al. (2003) y Liotta (2006), mencionamos para cada territorio los cambios y novedades posteriores a estas publicaciones. Consideramos que este modesto aporte contribuirá a precisar el conocimiento ictiofaunístico regional, ya que, además de las listas de especies, adjuntamos bibliografía de referencia y el marco biogeográfico e hídrico correspondientes,que podrán ser de utilidad para quienes hagan uso de este trabajo. Por otra parte entendemos que la participación de autores involucrados en la región considerada, le da un verdadero sentido federal a esta contribución, además de reforzar vínculos en los protagonistas de nuestra especialidad. En este nuevo número presentamos la provincia de Jujuy que se encuentra enclavada en el noroeste de nuestro territorio, limitada por la provincia de Salta, Bolivia y Chile. A las 30 especies citadas por Liotta 2006 para la provincia de Jujuy debemos agregar 13 nuevas citas. Las especies introducidas son señaladas en dos tablas (Tabla I y II). Por otra parte se destaca que 9 especies requieren confirmar su presencia en el territorio de la provincia Tabla III).

La documentación del material vegetal incompleto o fragmentario en la investigación etnobotánica

Este artículo tiene por finalidad mostrar cómo un grupo de investigación dedicado a la etnobotánica resolvió el problema de conservar, ordenar y organizar una colección de material que no reúne las condiciones para ser incorporada en un herbario. Al mismo tiempo, se hace una breve revisión de varios tópicos y referencias sobre los distintos tipos de colecciones que realiza un etnobotánico y se sugieren ideas de cómo proceder con ellas. En apretada síntesis, el material documental que abarca la investigación etnobotánica compromete varios tipos de elementos, todos ellos habitualmente obtenidos in situ: a) material de herbario, b) órganos vegetales, trozos, fragmentos, material semielaborado (fibras, cordeles, etc.), c) material elaborado (artesanías, artefactos u objetos que conforman la cultura material), d) piezas complejas (tejidos, vestimentas, embarcaciones, mobiliario, adornos ceremoniales, etc. ), e) material de descarte o accesorio (tapones, tizones, envoltorios, parasoles, elementos de sostén o apoyo momentáneo, utensilios efímeros, etc.).
