Sternes réprises en Côte d'Ivoire au cours des hivernages 1973-1974 et 1974-1975

Data are reported on: (1) date and place of ringing the juveniles and adults of the sea bird of the genus Sterna in Côte d'Ivoire, and (2) date and place of recapture during the winter periods of 1973-74 and 1974-75.

Note sur l'évolution des populations de Copépodes pélagiques de l'upwelling mauritanien (mars-avril 1972)

The evolution of a plankton copepod population in the Mauritania upwelling was studied by following a drogue for 9 days, from the point of upwelling till the water-mass dives under offshore waters. The Shannon index of specific diversity and the tropic structure allow separation into several stages in the studied succession. The upwelling brings near the shore a rather poor, highly diverse fauna, with a low filter-feeder rate. The phytoplanktonic development induces an increase in the copepod number. The filter-feeders become dominant and the diversity decreases. When the increase of copepod number stops, the diversity decreases and the omnivore and carnivore rate increases.

Summary of fishery statistics, 1974-77

This fisheries report summarises developments of the years 1974-77 in the region of the North West Water Authority. This report provides catch statistics, rod and line and commercial for salmon and sea trout, fish culture and hatchery operations, restocking with trout and freshwater fish, upstream fish movement recorded at Authority fish counters, counts of salmon and sea trout spawning redds, fish mortalities, licences issued, and prosecutions.

From several sources of data, the authors study seasonal variations of larval abundance for five species of tuna in Eastern Tropical Atlantic and its relation to the hydrological conditions. Distributional maps and TS graphs are given.

Courtship and spawning behaviors of carangid species in Belize

Many species of reef f ish agg regate seasonally in large numbers to spawn at predictable times and sites (Johannes, 1978; Sadovy, 1996; Domeier and Colin, 1997). Although spawning behavior has been observed for many reef fish in the wild (Wicklund, 1969; Smith, 1972; Johannes, 1978; Sadovy et al., 1994; Aguilar Perera and Aguilar Davila, 1996), few records exist of observations on the courtship or natural spawning for the commercially important family Carangidae (jacks) (von Westernhagen, 1974; Johannes, 1981; Sala et al., 2003). In this study, we present the first observations on the natural spawning behavior of the economically-valuable permit (Trachinotus falcatus)(Linnaeus, 1758) from the full to new moon period at reef promontories in Belize, with notes on the spawning of the yellow jack (Carangoides bartholomaei) (Cuvier, 1833), and the courtship of five other carangid species.

Seventh Annual Report for year ended 31st March, 1972

This is the seventh Annual report of the Cumberland River Authority on information of its activities and responsibilities on river management in its area between the beginning of April 1971, to the end of March 1972. The fisheries section covers 5 districts of the River Eden, Esk, Ellen, Derwent and South West Cumberland. It includes angling information and a general report for salmon and sea trout, brown trout and freshwater fish. Fish disease and fish hatchery are also covered as well as fisheries protection and licence duties. The fourth section on pollution deals with water quality, and the results of samples taken for chemical analysis from rivers Eden, Eamont, Petteril, Caldew, Calder, Irthing, Esk, Irt, Mite, Derwent, Ehen, Wampool and Waver are also given. It also covers information on sewage and trade effluents. The River Authorities preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

This is the first report from the Regional Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 29th April, 1974. The report looks at sections on estimates for the anticipated income and expenditure on fisheries for the current year, the structure of fisheries in the region, and a list of the fisheries in the ownership of the North West Water Authority. Also covered is information relating to fishery and sea fishery byelaws, license duties and a summary of the current activity and the future plans for the committee. South & West Cumberland Fisheries Advisory Committee 3rd June, 1974

This is the first report from the South and West Cumberland Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 3rd June 1974. The report includes sections on fishery byelaws, estimates for the anticipated income and expenditure on fisheries for the current year, and fish mortality. The section on fish mortality includes the details of a fish kill on the River Marron, gives points along the river where water was sampled, and the results of the analysis. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

This is the first report from the Eden Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 4th June 1974. The report includes sections on fishery byelaws, estimates for the anticipated income and expenditure on fisheries for the current year, licence duties, the Nursery Stream Project and Holmewrangle hatchery. The section on the Nursery Stream Project includes the reasons for undertaking the project, and the details of the project. The section on the Holmewrangle hatchery looks at low survival rates and reasons for mortality for 1973/1974. Lune, Wyre & Furness Fisheries Advisory Committee 6th June, 1974

This is the first report from the Lune, Wyre and Furness Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 6th June 1974.
