Data collected on tuna spawning survey cruise July 1-20, 1957: data report

Studies of gonads of yellowfin and skipjack tunas (Neothunnus macropterus and Katsuwonus pelamis) carried out by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission indicate that during summer months the offshore area in the region of the Revilla Gigedo Islands is a spawning location for these two species (Schaefer and Orange, 1956). In July of 1957 a cruise "Tuna Spawning Survey" was made aboard the vessel ORCA to make plankton hauls and to collect ancillary data for the primary purpose of surveying abundance of tuna larvae in this region. Report of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission for the year 1957

ENGLISH: The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission was established under authority of a Convention between the Governments of Costa Rica and the United States, which entered into force in 1950_ The Convention provides for the adherence of other governments having an interest in the tuna and tuna-bait resources of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean, by exchange of correspondence with existing members. Panama adhered to the Convention in 1953. SPANISH: La Comisión Interamericana del Atún Tropical fué establecida en virtud de una Convención entre los Gobiernos de Costa Rica y de los Estados Unidos, cuya vigencia comenzó en 1950. Dicha Convención permite la entrada de otros gobiernos que tengan interés en los recursos de atún y de peces de carnada para su pesca en el Océano Pacífico Oriental Tropical, mediante el intercambio de correspondencia con los países firmantes. Morphological observations of the dinoflagellate Ceratium hirundinella are given and a key to the difference in types provided. Illustrations are included.

The effect of oxygen concentration in water on the growth and nitrogen metabolism in the fry of rainbow trout [Translation from: Rybnoe Khoziaistvo,V.33, 74-75, 1957]

To ascertain the effect of various concentrations of oxygen in water on the fry of rainbow trout experiments were made with aquaria at various concentrations of oxygen. The food supplied was chironomid larvae (Chironomus plumosus). A surplus of food was supplied to the fry. Indices are given of the reaction of the fry to different temperatures.

Croissance et détermination de l'âge par lecture d'écailles d'un poisson plat de Côte d'Ivoire, Cynoglossus canariensis (Steind. 1882)

Cynoglossus canariensis has a very rapid growth. The rate of the males is 0,36 and the female one is 0,32. The asymptotic size is 55,0cm for the females and 50,5cm for the males. Females and males younger than three years (40cm), which represent 90 per cent of the Côte d'Ivoire stock have a similar growth, so the average equation: Lt=53,5 (1-e -0,34(t+1)) will be used.

I expect this to be the beginning of a major work that achieves the description of such a significant part of the history of natural sciences in Argentina.
