In 1926, The Oceanographic Institute published a first list of Indochinese fish, prepared by Mr. P. Charanaud. This first inventory included 275 species. For 6 years, researches conducted by the Oceanographic Institute, both at sea and on major rivers and lakes in the South of Vietnam, have contributed to build a collection of 4,000 individuals at least. Its inventory and the development of a huge documentation allowed the publication of the present note that includes 375 species.

A description of a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) captured on June 1934 along the coast of Cap Ti Oan is given. The scientific name Rhincodon is not correct due to a typographic error. The name with greek origin, should be: Rhineodon typus.

Louis Boutan was a biologist and one of the first underwater photographer. Graduating in 1879 with a Doctorate of Science at the University of Paris, he became a marine biology professor at the University of Banyuls-Sur-Mer (France) in 1893. The present note provide a biography of Boutan and a contribution on the effect of tidal cycles on corals growth by A. Krempf.
