Die Fischerei im Nordostatlantik im Jahre 2004

Since 1990 North-east Atlantic fish species – arctic cod, saithe, haddock, redfish and Greenland halibut – have been investigated by on-board observers on the German commercial trawler FMS Kiel. These investigations are part of the national data collection regulation established by the European Union in recent years. Collected data are basic data for the scientific assessment of these important fish stocks of the European fisheries. The results of the observed cruises are used by the Arctic Fisheries Working Group of the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES). Biological investigations were carried out in Norwegian waters and the Barents Sea (ICES Divisions IIa and IIb) on board FMS Kiel in January to March and in August/September 2004. This report presents results of these cruises and an overview about the general fishery situation in 2004.

Bestandskundliche Untersuchungen an wirtschaftlich wichtigen Grundfischbeständen im Nordost-Atlantik

For many years the assessments of the commercially most important demersal fish stocks of cod, haddock, saithe, redfish and Greenland halibut have annually been carried out by the "Arctic Fisheries Working Group" of ICES. The most important results of the actual assessment are given in this report. It shows that the gadoid stocks of cod, haddock and saithe are in good and stable conditions and that the stocks are harvested within safe biological limits. The stocks of redfish and Greenland halibut are still at a low level and outside safe biological limits. Greenland halibut shows a slightly positive trend in spawning stock biomass, several year-classes and recruitment.

Fischereisituation, Probennahme und Zustand der Nutzfischbestände im Nordostatlantik im Jahre 2002

NE-arctic cod, saithe, haddock, redfish and Greenland halibut are important fish stocks of the European fisheries. In many European countries national data sampling projects on commercial fisheries have been established in recent years. Since 1990 German investigations in the NE-Atlantic have been mainly carried out on the commercial trawler FMS KIEL. The results of these sea samplings are used as German basic data for stock assessments of the “Arctic Fisheries Working Group” of the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES). Biological investigations were carried out in Norwegian waters, the Svalbard area and the Barents Sea (ICES Divisions I, IIa and IIb) on board FMS KIEL in March and October/November 2002. This report presents results of these cruises and an overview over the general fishery situation in 2002. Finally, results and recommendations on the scientific stock assessments of cod, saithe, haddock, redfishand Greenland halibut are reported.

Die nordostarktische Fischerei im Jahre 2003

Seasampling of the important northeast Arctic fish stocks cod, saithe, haddock, redfish and Greenland halibut was continued in 2003. The sampling is part of the European data sampling directive on commercial fisheries established in recent years. This directive is relevant for European waters as well as for other areas where quotas have been assigned for European community member states. Furthermore, the results of these samplings are used as German basic data for stock assessments of the “Arctic Fisheries Working Group” of the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES). This report presents results of biological investigations which were carried out in ICES divisions IIa and IIb on board FMS “KIEL” in January/February and July/August 2003. The last section summarizes results and recommendations on the scientific assessment of the northeast Arctic fish stocks.

Die Tiefseegarnele Pandalus borealis im Nordostatlantik. Biologie, Bestandssituation und fischereiliche Nutzung

One of the most common decapode in the North Atlantic is the “Northern” or “Pink shrimp” Pandalus borealis (Kröyeri). Due to decreasing fish stocks and catches the shrimp fishery was intensified during most recent years. In the North-East Atlantic, a profitable fishery on this species has been carried out by Norway and USSR/ Russia off Norway, in the Barents Sea and off Spitsbergen for about 30 years. For the first time, Germany started a shrimp fishery with FMV “Hannover” in this area in spring/summer 1999. This article gives information on the biology of Pandalus borealis. A brief description of the problems in stock analyses, stock assessment, and the TACs (Total Allowable Catches) for the entire North Atlantic are given.

Fischerei auf die wichtigsten nordostatlantischen Grundfischbestände 1998

A short review of the actual assessments on the northeast atlantic groundfish stocks of cod, saithe, haddock, redfish and Greenland halibut provided by the ICES „Arctic Fisheries Working Group“is given. All these stocks are presently considered outside safe biological limits. For the first time since 5 years the cod stock is in an endangered situation, because the assessment was to optimistic and the TAC therefore set to high. According to the recent assessments necessary changes in the commercial fishery of the year 1998 off the Nowegian coast and in the Barent-Sea area are discussed. Information on distribution and fishery of cod, haddock, saithe and redfish is given. Biological investigations were carried out onboard the German factory trawler FMS „KIEL“ in January/March and September/ Occtober 1998 in order to collect data of the German fishery in that area. Aspects of length and age distributions, and stomach- and gonad investigation are represented.

Nordostarktische Fischbestände - Fangempfehlungen für 1998

The results of the assessments on North-east fish stocks of cod, haddock, saithe, redfish and Greenland halibut by the ICES ”Arctic Fisheries Working Group” in 1997 are presented. Whereas the stocks of cod, haddock and saithe are considered to be in fairly good conditions and within safe biological limits the assessments show the stocks of beaked redfish and Greenland halibut to be low. Assessments of cod and haddock differed from previous years, because data on cannibalism were introduced into the recruitment models.

Die deutsche Fischerei vor Nordnorwegen und bei der Bäreninsel im Dezember 1996 und im ersten Halbjahr 1997

Biological investigations were carried out onboard the German factory trawlers “Wiesbaden” and “Kiel” off the Norwegian coast and at Bear Island from December 1996 to June 1997. Data will be contributed to the assessments of the ICES “Arctic Fisheries Working Group”. Information on distribution and fishery of cod, haddock, saithe, redfish and Greenland halibut are given. Biological aspects of length- and age distributions, and stomach- and gonad investigations are represented. Some aspects of the function of sorting grids used in the Bear Island fishery are discussed.

Fischerei und fischereibiologische Untersuchungen im Nordost-Atlantik im 1. Halbjahr 1996

Biological investigations were carried out onboard the commercial freezing trawler "KIEL" off the Norwegian coast in February/March and in the Bear Island area in May 1996. Data will be used as German contribution to the assessments of the ICES "Arctie Fisheries Working Group". Informations about the fishery and the concentrations of cod, haddock, saithe and redfish in the areas between Röst-, Nordvest-, Fuglöy-Bank and Bear Island are given. Length - and age distributions as well as preliminary results of stomach- and gonad investigations are represented.

Situation wirtschaftlich wichtiger Grundfischbestände vor Norwegen, Spitzbergen und in der Barents-See

Assessments on NE-arctic stocks of cod, haddock, saith, redfish and Greenland halibut were carried out by the ICES 'Arctic Fisheries Working Group' in August 1996. Whereas stocks of cod, haddock, and saithe are presently in fairly good and stable condition the assessments show the stocks of beaked redfish and Greenland hailibut to be just the opposite. The status of the golden redfish stock seems to be stable. More detailed information is given in this report.

Probennahme in der Barentssee zur Einschätzung der Schadstoffbelastung

Die Fischereibänke der nördlichen norwegischen Küste und der Barentssee einschließlich der Gewässer um spitzbergen und der Bäreninsel sind Fanggründe, aus denen beträchtliche Mengen an wertvollen Meeresfischen wie Kabeljau, Schellfisch, Seelachs, Rotbarsch und Schwarzer Heilbutt auf den deutschen Markt kommen. So wurden beispielsweise im Jahr 1993 allein von deutschen Fangschiffen aus diesen Gewässern angelandet: 2600 t Kabeljau, 430 t Schellfisch, 3700 t Seelachs, 500 t Rotbarsch und 13 t Schwarzer Heilbutt. Darüber hinaus gelangt noch eine beträchtliche Menge an Importen von anderen EU-Staaten und von Drittländern in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland, deren genaue Höhe schwierig quantifizierbar ist.

Zustand und Entwicklung wirtschaftlich wichtiger Grundfischbestände im Nordost-Atlantik

A review of the NE Atlantic stocks of cod, haddock, saithe, redfish and Greenland halibut is given. The results are based on the assessments of the ICES "Arctic Fisheries Working Group" and the critical examination of the ICES "Advisory Committee on Fisheries Managment (ACFM)".
