Sind südliche Arten in Nord- und Ostsee auf dem Vormarsch?

The long and warm summer 2003 resulted in water temperatures of about 2°C above the average. This promoted the immigration of southern species like the Anchovy, the Sardine, the Red Mullet and different Squid species. The possible conclusions of such invasions concerning the ordinary species of the area are rather contradictory: For the Western Baltic a positive correlation between the occurrence of Anchovy and a good Cod year-class is shown. For the southern North Sea, stomach investigations of Squid make a negative effect on fish eggs and larvae more likely.

Eu-Projekt zur Seebeprobung von Schleppnetzfangen in der Nordsee erfolgreich abgeschlossen

Six countries around the North Sea have contributed to an EU-funded project collecting information about the catch composition in commercial fisheries. The aim was, by including that part of the catch, which is discarded after sorting, to gain better knowledge about the real stock size of the most important fish species. Additionally, the data shall contribute to a better understanding of the ecological effects of trawling.

Neue Chance für den Nordsee-Kabeljau

Während der 483. Reise von FFK “Solea“ (24.10. bis 9.11.01) wurde wie in jedem Herbst die Nachwuchssituation von Kabeljau in der Deutschen Bucht untersucht. Der dabei berechnete Index hat sich in seiner 20-jährigen Laufzeit als relativ verlässliches Maß für die Abschätzung der Stärke des jeweils jüngsten Jahrgangs erwiesen.

Im Oktober/November des vergangenen Jahres ergab sich während der 483. Reise von FK „Solea“ ein im Vergleich zu den vier Vorjahren hoher Fangindex von 220 Kabeljau Gadus morhua je Stunde (Weber 2001). Die Fische hatten eine Länge von 15 bis18 cm und waren besonders in Küstennähe Ostfrieslands anzutreffen. Durch unsere Langzeituntersuchungen zur Ökologie der Flussseeschwalbe Sterna hirundo im Wattenmeer sind wir bereits im Juni des Jahres 2001 auf den starken Jahrgang des Kabeljaus aufmerksam geworden und können die Vermutung von Weber bestätigen, dass die Kabeljaus den Sommer über im Wattengebiet herangewachsen sind.

Discards in der deutsche Seelachsfischerei

The saithe fishery in the Northern North Sea includes unused by-catches, that usually represent 6.1 % of the total catch. Although this relates clearly to single to species and year classes this fishery is comparatively “clean”. If such catches were better used, i.e. if the marketable fish of legal length were also landed, one could certify that the saithe fishery could be carried out without ecological concern.

Vierwöchige Gebietsschließung in der Deutschen Bucht - Eine Maßnahme zum Schutz des starken 1996er Kabeljaujahrgangs

End of January 1998 a real-time closed area has been established by the Federal Republic of Germany. As a case of emergency an area of 12 x 25 nm has been closed for trawling, to protect the mostly undersized 1996 cod year-class. The background and the valuation of this action is described.

Über die Herkunft des starken Kabeljau-Jahrgangs 1996 in der Nordsee

Cod in the North Sea is expected to reach „Safe biological limit“ due to a strong 1996 year-class. The cod fry was seen first as 5 cm fingerlings in the catches during a hydroacoustic survey in the southeastern North Sea. Back-calculations of the water drift show with high probability that the respective spawning ground was situated in the southwestern North Sea.

Kabeljau-Discards in der Deutschen Bucht

The German trawlfishery on cod in the German Bight causes discards. Their amount since 1983 has been estimated. The losses of millions of fish finally is the reason for losses of thousands of tonnes of valuable landings. The fishermen therefore should improve the selection rate of their nets.

Neue Chance für Scholle und Kabeljau in der Nordsee

Two surveys in the German Bight revealed a relatively good recruitment for plaice and cod. However, with the current high effort and uneconomic way of fishing, most of these fish will end as discards. To protect young plaice during the winter months an increase of the mesh opening in beam trawls within the plaice box is suggested. Therefore, the fishermen are called upon to make a more considerated selection of their nets.

Hoffnungsschimmer für die westliche Ostsee

Die 297. Reise von FFk "Solea" ging in die westliche Ostsse. Die dabei durchgeführten Bestandserhebungen lassen für die Zukunft wieder hoffen. Nicht nur, daß Wittling, Kliesche und Steinbutt weiterhin gut vorhanden sind, endlich hat auch der Dorschbestand wieder einen nachweisbaren Jahrgang in unseren Gewässern hervorgebracht.

Problemgebiet westliche Ostsee

In der westlichen Ostsee hat die Fischerei große Probleme: Dorsch und Schollen sind selten geworden, Kliesche und Wittling werden vom Markt nur bedingt akzeptiert, Heringe sind lediglich während der kurzen Saison anzutreffen und Flundern, Steinbutt und sprotten allein sind keine Basis für eine einträgliche Fischerei. Zur näheren Beleuchtung der Bestandszusammenhänge bei den Bodenfischen sollen hier die Ergebnisse der kürzlich mit FFK "Solea" durchgeführten Untersuchungen herangezogen werden.
