Many studies have assessed the characterization of anatomical or functional connectivity in mild cognitive impairment (MCI), however it is still unknown how they are related in the course of the pathology. Here we integrate the analysis of magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data with white matter (WM) integrity quantification from diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), to asses whether the damage in the WM tracts disrupt the organization of the functional networks.

An extended 3D distributed model based on distributed circuit units for the simulation of triple‐junction solar cells under realistic conditions for the light distribution has been developed. A special emphasis has been put in the capability of the model to accurately account for current mismatch and chromatic aberration effects. This model has been validated, as shown by the good agreement between experimental and simulation results, for different light spot characteristics including spectral mismatch and irradiance non‐uniformities. This model is then used for the prediction of the performance of a triple‐junction solar cell for a light spot corresponding to a real optical architecture in order to illustrate its suitability in assisting concentrator system analysis and design process.

Real time Tritium concentrations in air in two chemical forms, HT and HTO, coming from an ITER-like fusion reactor as source were coupled the European Centre Medium Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) numerical model with the Lagrangian Atmospheric-particle dispersion model FLEXPART. This tool was analyzed in nominal tritium discharge operational reference and selected incidental conditions affecting the Western Mediterranean Basin during 45 days during summer 2010 together with surface “wind observations” or weather data based in real hourly observations of wind direction and velocity providing a real approximation of the tritium behavior after the release to the atmosphere from a fusion reactor. From comparison with NORMTRI - a code using climatologically sequences as input - over the same area, the real time results have demonstrated an apparent overestimation of the corresponding climatologically sequence of Tritium concentrations in air outputs, at several distances from the reactor. For this purpose two development patterns were established. The first one was following a cyclonic circulation over the Mediterranean Sea and the second one was based on the plume delivered over the Interior of the Iberian Peninsula and Continental Europe by another stabilized circulation corresponding to a High Pressure System. One of the important remaining activities defined then, was the qualification tool. In order to validate the model of ECMWF/FLEXPART we have developed of a new complete data base of tritium concentrations for the months from November 2010 to March 2011 and defined a new set of four patterns of HT transport in air, in each case using real boundary conditions: stationary to the North, stationary to the South, fast and very fast displacement. Finally the differences corresponding to those four early patterns (each one in assessments 1 and 2) has been analyzed in terms of the tuning of safety related issues and taking into account the primary phase o- - f tritium modeling, from its discharge to the atmosphere to the deposition on the ground, will affect to the complete tritium environmental pathway altering the chronic dose by absorption, reemission and ingestion both from elemental tritium, HT and from the oxide of tritium, HTO

GaN and InGaN nanocolumns of various compositions are studied by room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) under different ambient conditions. GaN nanocolumns exhibit a reversible quenching upon exposure to air under constant UV excitation, following a t−1/2 time dependence and resulting in a total reduction of intensity by 85–90%, as compared to PL measured in vacuum, with no spectral change. This effect is not observed when exposing the samples to pure nitrogen. We attribute this effect to photoabsorption and photodesorption of oxygen that modifies the surface potential bending. InGaN nanocolumns, under the same experimental conditions do not show the same quenching features: The high-energy part of the broad PL line is not modified by exposure to air, whereas a lower-energy part, which does quench by 80–90%, can now be distinguished. We discuss the different behaviors in terms of carrier localization and possible composition or strain gradients in the InGaN nanocolumns.

Improvements in neuroimaging methods have afforded significant advances in our knowledge of the cognitive and neural foundations of aesthetic appreciation. We used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to register brain activity while participants decided about the beauty of visual stimuli. The data were analyzed with event-related field (ERF) and Time-Frequency (TF) procedures. ERFs revealed no significant differences between brain activity related with stimuli rated as “beautiful” and “not beautiful.” TF analysis showed clear differences between both conditions 400 ms after stimulus onset. Oscillatory power was greater for stimuli rated as “beautiful” than those regarded as “not beautiful” in the four frequency bands (theta, alpha, beta, and gamma). These results are interpreted in the frame of synchronization studies.

Pear fruits cv. 'Blanquilla', at various ripening stages, were studied under impact conditions. A 50-6-g spherical steel indentator, with a radius of curvature of 0-94 cm, was dropped on to the fruit from three heights: 4, 6 and 10 cm (0-0199, 0-0299 and 0-0499 J). The variables measured were analyzed. All variables were observed to be related to the impact energy except impact duration, which was related to the fruit firmness. Bruising correlated with impact energy when considering different heights, but not with any specific variable when studying the impact phenomenon at individual heights; however, there was a clear correlation between impact bruising and firmness. Three bruise shapes were observed, corresponding to preclimacteric, climacteric and postclimacteric fruits; a theory for this response is offered. According to the results, the impact response in postclimacteric pear fruits (with firmness values of less than 25 N, and a maturity index above 55) may be explained by the role played by the skin rather than by the pulp.

Cost and energy consumption related to obtaining polysilicon impact significantly on the total photovoltaic module cost and its energy payback time. Process simplifications can be performed, leading to cost reductions. Nowadays, among several approaches currently pursued to produce the so called Solar Grade Silicon, the chemical route, named Siemens process, is the dominant one. At the Instituto de Energía Solar research on this topic is focused on the chemical route, in particular on the polysilicon deposition step by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) from Trichlorosilane through a laboratory prototype. Valuable information about the phenomena involved in the polysilicon deposition process and the operating conditions is obtained from our experiments. A particular feature of our system is the inclusion of a mass spectrometer. The present work comprises spectra characterization of the polysilicon deposition chemical reaction, temperature and inlet gas mixture composition influence on the deposition rate and analysis of polysilicon deposition conditions for the ?pop-corn' phenomenon to appear, based on experimental experience (Actas de la Special Issue: E-MRS 2012 Spring Meeting ? One of the main causes for age-related declines in working memory is a higher vulnerability to retroactive interference due to a reduced ability to suppress irrelevant information. However, the underlying neural correlates remain to be established. Magnetoencephalography was used to investigate differential neural patterns in young and older adults performing an interference-based memory task with two experimental conditions, interrupting and distracting, during successful recognition. Behaviorally, both types of retroactive interference significantly impaired accuracy at recognition more in older adults than in young adults with the latter exhibiting greater disruptions by interrupters. Magnetoencephalography revealed the presence of differential age-related neural patterns. Specifically, time-modulated activations in temporo-occipital and superior parietal regions were higher in young adults compared with older adults for the interrupting condition. These results suggest that age-related deficits in inhibitory mechanisms that increase vulnerability to retroactive interference may be associated with neural under-recruitments in a high-interference task.

The architect Curro Inza (1929-1976) belongs to the group known as Madrilian organicism and the School of Madrid, whose most important works were built during the 1960 and 1970 decades. Curro Inza's work has received up until now very different, even extreme opinions, but his work has not been studied in depth, which is surprising if we consider that his architecture treats issues which are of great interest today. The present study has aimed at two objectives. The first has been to gather the information concerned with the author and his work, and to catalog all of the works of this personal archive (unpublished up until now). The work we have done here has consisted in compiling, digitalizing, classifying and cataloguing all of the documentation found in Curro Inza's personal archive; this archive has been deposited in the Biblioteca de la Escuela Superior de Artquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) . We have also digitalized the main projects in order to assure the best storage conditions for the future. The second objective has consisted in analyzing Curro Inza's work from a project and critical point of view, an approach which has not yet been explored. Within this second objective, I have studied Inza's work, which is well defined and personal as well as complex, but which has received little attention and has not been explained. I have done a critical revision of both his projects and his writings, and have related these with other, both national and international, architectures, in order to place Inza's work within the contemporary architectural discourse. In order to decipher the essence of Inza's architecture, I have approached his work from five, simultaneous perspectives. I have described the projects critically from each of the five perspectives or categories; these five categories give shape to the organization of the dissertation. Even if the compilation and revision of Inza's archive is somehow an archaeological search, this study aims at having a larger scope than its strict, exclusive historical interest. In this study I have studied Inza's projects from a critical point of view and in relation to contemporary architecture and architectural thought, attempting to draw connections between Inza's work and modern, present architecture. We have also attempted to understand and describe Inza's language and conception of architectural discourse, as well as his origins, evolution and expression of his thought. In summary, I have analyzed and explained Curro Inza's work from a projectual point of view, drawing a critical reading of the strategies used by the author, and from which we could learn and work today.

Gasification is a technology that can replace traditional management alternatives used up to date to deal with this waste (landfilling, composting and incineration) and which fulfils the social, environmental and legislative requirements. The main products of sewage sludge gasification are permanent gases (useful to generate energy or to be used as raw material in chemical synthesis processes), liquids (tars) and char. One of the main problems to be solved in gasification is tar production. Tars are organic impurities which can condense at relatively high temperatures making impossible to use the produced gases for most applications. This work deals with the effect of some primary tar removal processes (performed inside the gasifier) on sewage sludge gasification products. For this purpose, analysis of the gas composition, tar production, cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion were carried out. The tests were performed with air in a laboratory scale plant consisting mainly of a bubbling bed gasifier. No catalyzed and catalyzed (10% wt of dolomite in the bed and in the feeding) tests were carried out at different temperatures (750ºC, 800ºC and 850ºC) in order to know the effect of these parameters in the gasification products. As far as tars were concerned, qualitative and quantitative tar composition was determined. In all tests the Equivalence Ratio (ER) was kept at 0.3. Temperature is one of the most influential variables in sewage sludge gasification. Higher temperatures favoured hydrogen and CO production while CO2 content decreased, which might be partially explained by the effect of the cracking, Boudouard and CO2 reforming reactions. At 850ºC, cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion reached 49% and 76%, respectively. The presence of dolomite as catalyst increased the production of H2 reaching contents of 15.5% by volume at 850 °C. Similar behaviour was found for CO whereas CO2 and CnHm (light hydrocarbons) production decreased. In the presence of dolomite, a tar reduction of up to 51% was reached in comparison with no catalyzed tests, as well as improvements on cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion. Several assays were developed in order to test catalyst performance under more rough gasification conditions. For this purpose, the throughput value (TR), defined as kg sludge “as received” fed to the gasifier per hour and per m2 of cross sectional area of the gasifier, was modified. Specifically, the TR values used were 110 (reference value), 215 and 322 kg/h·m2. When TR increased, the H2, CO and CH4 production decreased while the CO2 and the CnHm production increased. Tar production increased drastically with TR during no catalysed tests what is related to the lower residence time of the gas inside the reactor. Nevertheless, even at TR=322 kg/h·m2, tar production decreased by nearly 50% with in-bed use of dolomite in comparison with no catalyzed assays under the same operating conditions. Regarding relative tar composition, there was an increase in benzene and naphthalene content when temperature increased while the content of the rest of compounds decreased. The dolomite seemed to be effective all over the range of molecular weight studied showing tar removal efficiencies between 35-55% in most cases. High values of the TR caused a significant increase in tar production but a slight effect on tar composition.

In this work, we present a study whose objective is to prove the influence of background noise produced inside university facilities on the brain waves related to attention processes. Recordings of background noise were carried out in study areas inside university facilities. Volunteers were asked to perform an attention test without any background noise but also while being exposed to the sound recordings, and their cerebral activity was recorded through electroencephalography (EEG). After the application of the test in both conditions, changes in the frequency bands related to attention processes (beta 13-30 Hz and theta 4-7 Hz) were studied. The results of this study show that when the students were performing the test while being exposed to background noise, both beta and theta frequency bands decreased statistically significantly. Because attentional improvement is related to increases of the beta and theta waves, we believe that those decreases are directly related to a lack of attention caused by the exposure to background noise. Nevertheless, the results do not allow us to conclude that background noise produced inside university facilities has an influence on the attentional processes.

At present, photovoltaic energy is one of the most important renewable energy sources. The demand for solar panels has been continuously growing, both in the industrial electric sector and in the private sector. In both cases the analysis of the solar panel efficiency is extremely important in order to maximize the energy production. In order to have a more efficient photovoltaic system, the most accurate understanding of this system is required. However, in most of the cases the only information available in this matter is reduced, the experimental testing of the photovoltaic device being out of consideration, normally for budget reasons. Several methods, normally based on an equivalent circuit model, have been developed to extract the I-V curve of a photovoltaic device from the small amount of data provided by the manufacturer. The aim of this paper is to present a fast, easy, and accurate analytical method, developed to calculate the equivalent circuit parameters of a solar panel from the only data that manufacturers usually provide. The calculated circuit accurately reproduces the solar panel behavior, that is, the I-V curve. This fact being extremely important for practical reasons such as selecting the best solar panel in the market for a particular purpose, or maximize the energy extraction with MPPT (Maximum Peak Power Tracking) methods.

This document is the result of a process of web development to create a tool that will allow to Cracow University of Technology consult, create and manage timetables. The technologies chosen for this purpose are Apache Tomcat Server, My SQL Community Server, JDBC driver, Java Servlets and JSPs for the server side. The client part counts on Javascript, jQuery, AJAX and CSS technologies to perform the dynamism. The document will justify the choice of these technologies and will explain some development tools that help in the integration and development of all this elements: specifically, NetBeans IDE and MySQL workbench have been used as helpful tools. After explaining all the elements involved in the development of the web application, the architecture and the code developed are explained through UML diagrams. Some implementation details related to security are also deeper explained through sequence diagrams. As the source code of the application is provided, an installation manual has been developed to run the project. In addition, as the platform is intended to be a beta that will be grown, some unimplemented ideas for future development are also exposed. Finally, some annexes with important files and scripts related to the initiation of the platform are attached. This project started through an existing tool that needed to be expanded. The main purpose of the project along its development has focused on setting the roots for a whole new platform that will replace the existing one. For this goal, it has been needed to make a deep inspection on the existing web technologies: a web server and a SQL database had to be chosen. Although the alternatives were a lot, Java technology for the server was finally selected because of the big community backwards, the easiness of modelling the language through UML diagrams and the fact of being free license software. Apache Tomcat is the open source server that can use Java Servlet and JSP technology. Related to the SQL database, MySQL Community Server is the most popular open-source SQL Server, with a big community after and quite a lot of tools to manage the server. JDBC is the driver needed to put in contact Java and MySQL. Once we chose the technologies that would be part of the platform, the development process started. After a detailed explanation of the development environment installation, we used UML use case diagrams to set the main tasks of the platform; UML class diagrams served to establish the existing relations between the classes generated; the architecture of the platform was represented through UML deployment diagrams; and Enhanced entity–relationship (EER) model were used to define the tables of the database and their relationships. Apart from the previous diagrams, some implementation issues were explained to make a better understanding of the developed code - UML sequence diagrams helped to explain this. Once the whole platform was properly defined and developed, the performance of the application has been shown: it has been proved that with the current state of the code, the platform covers the use cases that were set as the main target. Nevertheless, some requisites needed for the proper working of the platform have been specified. As the project is aimed to be grown, some ideas that could not be added to this beta have been explained in order not to be missed for future development. Finally, some annexes containing important configuration issues for the platform have been added after proper explanation, as well as an installation guide that will let a new developer get the project ready. In addition to this document some other files related to the project are provided: - Javadoc. The Javadoc containing the information of every Java class created is necessary for a better understanding of the source code. - database_model.mwb. This file contains the model of the database for MySQL Workbench. This model allows, among other things, generate the MySQL script for the creation of the tables. - ScheduleManager.war. The WAR file that will allow loading the developed application into Tomcat Server without using NetBeans. - ScheduleManager.zip. The source code exported from NetBeans project containing all Java packages, JSPs, Javascript files and CSS files that are part of the platform. - config.properties. The configuration file to properly get the names and credentials to use the database, also explained in Annex II. Example of config.properties file. - db_init_script.sql. The SQL query to initiate the database explained in Annex III. SQL statements for MySQL initialization.

Water infiltration into the soil and groundwater recharge deep water in aquifers is slow relative to other hydrological phenomena. The wording of this thesis aims to contribute to the study of the influence that the storage of solid precipitation as snow cover and its eventual melting may have on this process in mid-mountain areas (1000 - 2,000 m) where very often the headwaters of the peninsular rivers are located. For this party analysis of the different variables involved has over a given time period and a particular geographical area, so that their methodology is empirical in nature. The extension of the period (2002/03 to 2010/11) has been conditioned by the availability of the values of some of its key variables, as were the water equivalent of the snow and flows from melting. These have been obtained as a result of the application of ASTER model, developed in the program Evaluation of Water Resources from the Innivation (ERHIN), calibrated - among others data of rainfall, temperature and flow from turn System Automatic Hydrological Information (SAIH). Both programs were implemented by the Administration in the different Water Boards and to undertakings for current basin, in which the author participated development of this thesis. As for the study area has proceeded at its option considering the possible areas of midmountain in the presence of snow outside hydrological meaningful and they were lithology consisting of permeable outcrops that did not prevent infiltration into the ground and forming aquifers of some significance. We were interested discretion in the Tagus basin, therefore the strategic nature of it, as currently supplying surplus to other basins deficit- as the representative value of its climate and terrain conditions in relation to other peninsular river basins . To do this we started from the headwaters identified by the ERHIN program for its implementation snow interest to the ASTER model and Ground Water Bodies MASb (before UUHH Hydrogeological Units) defined in hydrological plans. The intersection in the territory of both criteria led eventually to the Alto Tajo, in which both requirements are met. The section was finalized in the period between the headwaters of the Tagus and Guadiela rivers and reservoirs end Entrepeñas and Buendia respectively checking points for calibration performed in ASTER modeling. Much of it runs on carbonate rocks (limestones and dolomites of Jurassic and Cretaceous) related MASb of Tajuña -Montes Universal, Molina de Aragón and Sigüenza-Maranchón. The daily values of water reserves in the form of snow, evapotranspiration and flow from melting were obtained from the results of this model, proceeding to the calculation of infiltration water balance during the study period considered, taking into account values of precipitation, evapotranspiration and input flow. This has required the prior examination of the hydrogeological conditions of your required in order to know the possible underground interconnections that could alter the balance between the intervening variables aforementioned area. For this we have carried out the collection and analysis of hydrogeological information relevant documentation Tagus river management plans (Hydrological Plan Tajo Basin RD 1664/1998 and the current Hydrological Plan of the Spanish part of the River Basin Tagus RD 270/2014) and previous studies by the basin organization and the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME) mainly. Regarding the MASb Tajuña- Montes Universal - whose length exceeds the area selected - these studies consider its geological structure and lithology distribution with waterproof collations that act as barriers, dividing it into subunits and identifying areas draining their respective aquifers. It has also considered the documentation and previous studies of the National Hydrological Plan on shared among different geographical areas management plans Hydrogeological Units. We conclude that river dividing the headers are substantially coincident or covering Subunits southern Universal Montes, Priego Cifuentes, Zaorejas and northern Universal Mounts, which drain into the Tagus / Guadiela (either directly or through tributaries such as Gallo, Ablanquejo , whitecaps , Raven ...), MASb Molina de Aragón which drains through the Tajo del Gallo and MASb Sigüenza- Maranchón river that drains into the Tagus using the Ablanquejo . Discarded - except the small exception of spring Cifuentes -hydrogeological connections with other MASb or Subunits so the headwaters of the Tagus and Guadiela be considered as a separate system, where rainfall not evaporated runs on surface or infiltrates and eventually discharged into reservoirs Entrepeñas and Buendia. The daily and cumulative quantification of water balances allowed us to compute the approximate evolution of groundwater reserves from its initial date. Initially balances were performed separately in the headwaters of the Tagus and Guadiela, whose cumulative values showed an increasing trend in the first and decreasing in the second. This situation is balanced when the balance is practiced together in both , appreciating the change in volume of groundwater hydrological evolution commensurate with the cycles of summer / winter and drought periods , keeping their average long / medium term values and putting in shows the existence of underground interconnections between the two basins. The overall balance, adding header Tajuña (which also shares the permeable materials MASb Tajuña -Montes Universal ) did not reveal the existence of new hydrogeological interrelationships that influenced water balances made Tajo / Guadiela, confirming the findings of the hydrogeological studies previously analyzed. We proceeded to confront and validate the results of the evolution of groundwater reserves by the following alternative procedures: - Calculate the parameters drain depletion curve corresponding to the volume of groundwater draining into the Tajo / Guadiela. This has been made from monthly inflows in the reservoirs of Entrepeñas and Buendia during the months of June, July, August and September, whose values match the typical profile of an aquifer discharges. From these has been determined for the first of June each year of the time series considered drainage volume - Determination of base flow by Wallingford method and deduction of drainage volumes. Estimate of annual recharge - Quantification of the annual recharge by the method Sanz Menéndez Pidal of Navascués and Távara. Very approximate values recharge between calculated for the last two mentioned methods were obtained. Concerning groundwater reserves stored follow a similar pattern in all cases, allowing consider valid the results achieved through water balance. Confirmed its robustness, simple correlations were sought between the volume of groundwater reserves (as estimated indicator of the effect of infiltration) and volumes from the melting. The conclusion is that the latter do not have a decisive effect on the annual scale infiltration, recharge and variation in volumes of groundwater, against the weight of other variables (precipitation and evapotranspiration). However found a good multiple correlation between the estimated recharge and effective precipitation (precipitation minus evapotranspiration) and fusion, which allowed quantify the contribution of the latter. Subsequently it has resorted to the selection of the most intense episodes of accumulation / melting in the headwaters of the Tagus and Guadiela. And we proceeded to the comparison between the results obtained by application of the simulation model in the same periods (usually several days) with real data and fictitious temperature data to annul or decrease the presence of snow, appreciating a great sensitivity of the effect of temperature on evapotranspiration and establishing linear correlations between the volumes of melting and increased groundwater reserves again. They confirm the “flattering " effect of water accumulation as snow and subsequent liquefaction of the infiltration of water into the soil and underground storage. Finally various climate scenarios (+1ºC; +3ºC; +1ºC y – 10% precipitation; y 3ºC – 10% precipitation) were established consistent with IPCC projections for mid - to late - century, determined through simulation ASTER corresponding values of melting. The correlation established on an annual scale has allowed to evaluate the effect of decreasing the volume of melt - in different scenarios - on recharge, predicting a decline in low flows and the disappearance of "snow effect" on infiltration and recharge with an increase of 3°C temperature. Given the conditions of representativeness of the chosen area, plausible extension of the above findings to other landlocked headwaters in mid-mountain areas located between 1000 to 2000m and its downstream effects.
