The main objective of this course, conducted by Jóvenes Nucleares (Spanish Young Generation in Nuclear, JJNN), a non-profit organization that depends on the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE) is to pass on basic knowledge about Science and Nuclear Technology to the general public, mostly students and introduce them to its most relevant points. The purposes of this course are to provide general information, to answer the most common questions about Nuclear Energy and to motivate the young students to start a career in nuclear. Therefore, it is directed mainly to high school and university students, but also to general people that wants to learn about the key issues of such an important matter in our society. Anybody could attend the course, as no specific scientific education is required. The course is done at least once a year, during the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society, which takes place in a different Spanish city each time. The course is done also to whichever university or institution that asks for it to JJNN, with the only limit of the presenter´s availability. The course is divided into the following chapters: Physical nuclear and radiation principles, Nuclear power plants, Nuclear safety, Nuclear fuel, Radioactive waste, Decommission of nuclear facilities, Future nuclear power plants, Other uses of nuclear technology, Nuclear energy, climate change and sustainable development. The course is divided into 15 minutes lessons on the above topics, imparted by young professionals, experts in the field that belongs either to the Spanish Young Generation in Nuclear, either to companies and institutions related with nuclear energy. At the end of the course, a 200 pages book with the contents of the course is handed to every member of the audience. This book is also distributed in other course editions at high schools and universities in order to promote the scientific dissemination of the Nuclear Technology. As an extra motivation, JJNN delivers a course certificate to the assistants. At the end of the last edition course, in Santiago de Compostela, the assistants were asked to provide a feedback about it. Some really interesting lessons were learned, that will be very useful to improve next editions of the course. As a general conclusion of the courses it can be said that many of the students that have assisted to the course have increased their motivation in the nuclear field, and hopefully it will help the young talents to choose the nuclear field to develop their careers

In the world of information and communications technologies the demand for professionals with software engineering skills grows at an exponential rate. On this ground, we have conducted a study to help both academia and the software industry form a picture of the relationship between the competences of recent graduates of undergraduate and graduate software engineering programmes and the tasks that these professionals are to perform as part of their jobs in industry. Thanks to this study, academia will be able to observe which skills demanded by industry the software engineering curricula do or do not cater for, and industry will be able to ascertain which tasks a recent software engineering programme graduate is well qualified to perform. The study focuses on the software engineering knowledge guidelines provided in SE2004 and GSwE2009, and the job profiles identified by Career Space.

This paper addresses the economic impact assessment of the construction of a new road on the regional distribution of jobs. The paper summarizes different existing model approaches considered to assess economic impacts through a literature review. Afterwards, we present the development of a comprehensive approach for analyzing the interaction of new transport infrastructure and the economic impact through an integrated model. This model has been applied to the construction of the motorway A-40 in Spain (497 Km.) which runs across three regions without passing though Madrid City. This may in turn lead to the relocation of labor and capital due to the improvement of accessibility of markets or inputs. The result suggests the existence of direct and indirect effects in other regions derived from the improvement of the transportation infrastructure, and confirms the relevance of road freight transport in some regions. We found that the changes in regional employment are substantial for some regions (increasing or decreasing jobs), but a t the same time negligible in other regions. As a result, the approach provides broad guidance to national governments and other transport-related parties about the impacts of this transport policy.

---ABSTRACT---This paper is about the development of a technological based “Start Up” from the college. The company will market a software service oriented to canteens and restaurants. Economy is what rules the world, and today we are facing a very strong crisis with a 26.7% of unemployment rate in Spain. However, the IT sector is less affected than others by this crisis (Informatics Engineers has a 4.8% unemployment rate). But in many cases jobs are precarious and young people have to leave our country for pursuing a decent career. Also we have the option of self-employment, launching a company, and with some luck, creating a new job. We have some tools for launching new technological base business. Many people hopes to create the new Facebook, and many investors are interested in being on the boat if that happens. Also at UPM we have ACTUA UPM, which promotes ideas into companies. My idea was born in it and managed to the final round. For launching a new company you need to do a business plan that studies the possible pitfalls of your idea and directs your development efforts to the way your product is going to be sold. So the first phase of this paper will talk about the development of the business plan. After it, the development phase is in essence a phase of learning in which I faced most problems in my own, giving the best solutions I could from my own experience and intuition. Then, we present the experience of developing a Start Up from the idea to the market testing.

ABSTRACT Recently, there has been a surge of interest in learning to code, focusing especially on career opportunities. It is easy to understand why: the number of jobs for programmers and computer scientists is growing rapidly. On the other hand, the psychologists think that computational thinking is a fundamental skill for everyone, not just for computer scientists. To reading, writing, and arithmetic, we should add computational thinking to every child’s analytical ability. It is necessary to change workforce requirements mean that new workers will need ever more sophisticated skills in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Consequently, the contents about Information Technology as well as electronics, coding, robotics and control increase in Technology Education in High School . The development and utilization of the Virtual Laboratories of Control and Robotics help to achieve this goal. We focus on control and robotics because a control and robotics project includes other technologies contents like electronics, coding,... A web site with Virtual Laboratories of Control and Robotics was implemented. In this work, six groups of virtual laboratories for teaching control and robotics in preuniversity level are shown. These Virtual Laboratories were used for teaching students at high school. The statistics of teaching-learning process allow to check some issues of this work. The laboratories, the improvement of learning (concepts and procedures) and interactivity are described and are compared to similar applications. They share identical learning objectives but they lack the virtual laboratory aspect. Some experiences with students are explained too. The results suggest that within high school technology education, virtual laboratories can be exploited as effective and motivational learning environments.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this thesis is to study the fundamental aspects of the work of the american landscape architect Dan Kiley through the example of the Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. When addressing the study it was treated on the one hand to study and explain how much is relevant in this work, but also put it into context. This is also multiple: the work, its author, the place where it lands and the cultural and historical context in which it occurs. In the case of the Miller house, the authorship is shared, and the end result, as in many cases houses, responds to a coral nature, in which the protagonists are several, with more or less influence on it, but indispensable all of them in the final overview. The first aspect to be considered are the antecedents that made it possible, because the environment which forms the universe of Dan Kiley to reach Columbus is essential to understand the circumstances of departure for a work like the Miller house: his previous years of college, his particular relationship with the landscape through his different jobs, his extensive knowledge of species of plants and the accumulated experience working for Warren Manning, and also the training based on Olmsted and Beaux Arts heritage . After that, his Harvard fellows Eckbo and Rose, the influence from Walter Gropius Thomas Church and Christopher Tunnard within the university, and also the landscape and garden made in Europe during the first decades of the twentieth century known through publications and the architecture of Mies van der Rohe. Years later, after leaving Harvard , the decisive influence of Eero Saarinen and also his relationships with various partners, the first trips to Europe and therefore the opportunity to visit the great works of Le Nôtre. On the other hand, and in parallel, Irwin Miller´s biography, owner of the house, takes us to the time when the three key figures come into contact to the start the construction (Miller, Saarinen and Kiley) putting the Miller house into the biographical context of its creation. The analysis of the place, a very special city like Columbus, continually refers us to Irwin Miller´s figure while maintaining an indissoluble relationship between employer and this unique city, materialized in the creation of the Architecture Program. The first part of the work deals with these issues, alternating between one figure and another, although all parties are linked. The second part of the thesis analyzes in depth Miller´s house and then with greater precision the gardens: its overall compositional scheme, its three distinct parts and within them the successive subparts that compose the garden The analysis is divided into three phases: the first one is focused in the project development to its materialization in the final work, the second one which analyzes what is really executed and finally the changes undergone over time. As for the own analysis of the house and gardens, the information drawings, as well as family photographs, along with the official pictures of the house belonging to Ezra Stoller and Balthazar Korab, will reveal the changes throughout time due to various factors, as the change in criterion for the use, or Miller´s marriage personal decisions: replacement of plants and trees, disappearance of curious elements like waterfalls roof of one of the porches, or appearance of single elements that now have become part of the classic visions of the house, like the sculpture of Henry Moore. The third part of the thesis describes the influence of the gardens of Le Nôtre in the garden of Miller´s house, through the use and adaptation of numerous resources from the French Baroque garden, and it is configured as the final analysis of of the work, also with the description of Kiley´s most significant post-Miller one family housing gardens. The use of these released under its own formal aesthetics of modernism instruments has a unique singularity in the gardens of the Miller´s , and although Dan Kiley turned this use in a constant throughout his career, he never got to the harmony demonstrated in Columbus residence in any of the later gardens in form, scale, relationship between the parties, responding to the needs of use and evolution over time.
