ABSTRACT. This final project pursues the improvement of the current presentation control systems. The solution it provides is based on a server-client architecture. The server will be a mini PC, a Raspberry Pi model in this case, that will be connected to a video projector or a screen monitor. This server will remain idle waiting for an incoming Bluetooth connection. Once the connection is accepted the server will parse the commands sent by the client through a JSON API and will execute them accordingly to control the system. The client we decided to develop is an Android application. The speaker will be able to connect with the server by scanning a QR code that will be generated and displayed into the projector or screen monitor. Once the connection is accepted the client will sent the commands to control the slides, such as opening a presentation, move forward and backwards, etc. The adopted solution must be efficient, easy to use and with low cost to be appealing and useful to the real world. To accomplish the task this project will count with improvements over the current systems, such as the possibility to open a presentation from the smartphone, the visualization of the current slide notes from the mobile phone and a countdown timer to have a better control over the available time for the presentation.

The confluence of three-dimensional (3D) virtual worlds with social networks imposes on software agents, in addition to conversational functions, the same behaviours as those common to human-driven avatars. In this paper, we explore the possibilities of the use of metabots (metaverse robots) with motion capabilities in complex virtual 3D worlds and we put forward a learning model based on the techniques used in evolutionary computation for optimizing the fuzzy controllers which will subsequently be used by metabots for moving around a virtual environment.

This paper describes new approaches to improve the local and global approximation (matching) and modeling capability of TakagiSugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The main aim is obtaining high function approximation accuracy and fast convergence. The main problem encountered is that T-S identification method cannot be applied when the membership functions are overlapped by pairs. This restricts the application of the T-S method because this type of membership function has been widely used during the last 2 decades in the stability, controller design of fuzzy systems and is popular in industrial control applications. The approach developed here can be considered as a generalized version of T-S identification method with optimized performance in approximating nonlinear functions. We propose a noniterative method through weighting of parameters approach and an iterative algorithm by applying the extended Kalman filter, based on the same idea of parameters’ weighting. We show that the Kalman filter is an effective tool in the identification of T-S fuzzy model. A fuzzy controller based linear quadratic regulator is proposed in order to show the effectiveness of the estimation method developed here in control applications. An illustrative example of an inverted pendulum is chosen to evaluate the robustness and remarkable performance of the proposed method locally and globally in comparison with the original T-S model. Simulation results indicate the potential, simplicity, and generality of the algorithm. An illustrative example is chosen to evaluate the robustness. In this paper, we prove that these algorithms converge very fast, thereby making them very practical to use.

Several issues concerning the current use of speech interfaces are discussed and the design and development of a speech interface that enables air traffic controllers to command and control their terminals by voice is presented. A special emphasis is made in the comparison between laboratory experiments and field experiments in which a set of ergonomics-related effects are detected that cannot be observed in the controlled laboratory experiments. The paper presents both objective and subjective performance obtained in field evaluation of the system with student controllers at an air traffic control (ATC) training facility. The system exhibits high word recognition test rates (0.4% error in Spanish and 1.5% in English) and low command error (6% error in Spanish and 10.6% error in English in the field tests). Subjective impression has also been positive, encouraging future development and integration phases in the Spanish ATC terminals designed by Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA).

GEODA project started in 2006 as a complex and ambitious project in the smart antenna field. GEODA is a multiple planar array smart antenna working at 1.7 GHz designed to receive and automatically track several LEO satellite signals simultaneously [1-4]. GEODA evolved to GEODA-GRUA since transmission capabilities were given to the original idea [5-6], so that radiofrequency sub-systems had to be re-designed and digital management subsystem modified accordingly. In this paper, improvements in the reception/transmission (T/R) modules as well as in the Control Subsystem are presented, keeping the original radiating element.

During sentence processing there is a preference to treat the first noun phrase found as the subject and agent, unless marked the other way. This preference would lead to a conflict in thematic role assignment when the syntactic structure conforms to a non-canonical object-before-subject pattern. Left perisylvian and fronto-parietal brain networks have been found to be engaged by increased computational demands during sentence comprehension, while event-reated brain potentials have been used to study the on-line manifestation of these demands. However, evidence regarding the spatiotemporal organization of brain networks in this domain is scarce. In the current study we used Magnetoencephalography to track spatio-temporally brain activity while Spanish speakers were reading subject- and object-first cleft sentences. Both kinds of sentences remained ambiguous between a subject-first or an object-first interpretation up to the appearance of the second argument. Results show the time-modulation of a frontal network at the disambiguation point of object-first sentences. Moreover, the time windows where these effects took place have been previously related to thematic role integration (300500 ms) and to sentence reanalysis and resolution of conflicts during processing (beyond 500 ms post-stimulus). These results point to frontal cognitive control as a putative key mechanism which may operate when a revision of the sentence structure and meaning is necessary

This paper presents a general systems that can be taken into account to control between elements in an antenna array. Because the digital phase shifter devices have become a strategic element and also some steps have been taken for their export by U.S. Government, this element has increased its price to the low supply in the market. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt some solutions that allow us to deal with the design and construction of antenna arrays. system based on a group of a staggered phase shift with external switching is shown, which is extrapolated array.

EURATOM/CIEMAT and Technical University of Madrid (UPM) have been involved in the development of a FPSC [1] (Fast Plant System Control) prototype for ITER, based on PXIe (PCI eXtensions for Instrumentation). One of the main focuses of this project has been data acquisition and all the related issues, including scientific data archiving. Additionally, a new data archiving solution has been developed to demonstrate the obtainable performances and possible bottlenecks of scientific data archiving in Fast Plant System Control. The presented system implements a fault tolerant architecture over a GEthernet network where FPSC data are reliably archived on remote, while remaining accessible to be redistributed, within the duration of a pulse. The storing service is supported by a clustering solution to guaranty scalability, so that FPSC management and configuration may be simplified, and a unique view of all archived data provided. All the involved components have been integrated under EPICS [2] (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System), implementing in each case the necessary extensions, state machines and configuration process variables. The prototyped solution is based on the NetCDF-4 [3] and [4] (Network Common Data Format) file format in order to incorporate important features, such as scientific data models support, huge size files management, platform independent codification, or single-writer/multiple-readers concurrency. In this contribution, a complete description of the above mentioned solution is presented, together with the most relevant results of the tests performed, while focusing in the benefits and limitations of the applied technologies.

This paper presents a high-power high efficiency PA design method using load pull technique. Harmonic impedance control at the virtual drain is accomplished through the use of tunable pre-matching circuits and modeling of package parasitics. A 0.5 µm GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) is characterized using the method, and loadpull measurements are simulated illustrating the impact of varying 2nd and 3rd harmonic termination. These harmonic terminations are added to satisfy conditions for class-F load pull. The method is verified by design and simulation of a 40-W class-F PA prototype at 1.64 GHz with 76% drain efficiency and 10 dB gain (70% PAE).

The purpose of this study is to set up the basis needed to develop real applications designed for the control and management of heterogeneous fleets. This paper tries to present some programming patterns which will lead to the design and development of good quality applications. The premise for this purpose should be the design of scalable, platform independent, modular and user friendly programs which require very small maintenance and if possible to give the ability to nonprogrammer users the ability to extend the application beyond their original design. To achieve it, a web design with the use of content management system following a model-view-controller architectural pattern has been purposed.

In this paper, in order to select a speed controller for a specific non-linear autonomous ground vehicle, proportional-integral-derivative (PID), Fuzzy, and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controllers were designed. Here, in order to carry out the tuning of the above controllers, a multicomputer genetic algorithm (MGA) was designed. Then, the results of the MGA were used to parameterize the PID, Fuzzy and LQR controllers and to test them under laboratory conditions. Finally, a comparative analysis of the performance of the three controllers was conducted.

Based on theoretical arguments, we propose a possible route for controlling the band-gap in the promising photovoltaic material CdIn2S4. Our ab initio calculations show that the experimental degree of inversion in this spinel (fraction of tetrahedral sites occupied by In) corresponds approximately to the equilibrium value given by the minimum of the theoretical inversion free energy at a typical synthesis temperature. Modification of this temperature, or of the cooling rate after synthesis, is then expected to change the inversion degree, which in turn sensitively tunes the electronic band-gap of the solid, as shown here by screened hybrid functional calculations.
