Survey Engineering curricula involves the integration of many formal disciplines at a high level of proficiency. The Escuela de Ingenieros en Topografía, Cartografía y Geodesia at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Survey Engineering) has developed an intense and deep teaching on so-called Applied Land Sciences and Technologies or Land Engineering. However, new approaches are encouraged by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). This fact requires a review of traditional teaching and methods. Furthermore, the new globalization and international approach gives new ways to this discipline to teach and learn about how to bridge gap between cultures and regions. This work is based in two main needs. On one hand, it is based on integration of basic knowledge and disciplines involved in typical Survey Engineering within Land Management. On the other, there is an urgent need to consider territory on a social and ethical basis, as far as a part of the society, culture, idiosyncrasy or economy. The integration of appropriate knowledge of the Land Management is typically dominated by civil engineers and urban planners. It would be very possible to integrate Survey Engineering and Cooperation for Development in the framework of Land Management disciplines. Cooperation for Development is a concept that has changed since beginning of its use until now. Development projects leave an impact on society in response to their beneficiaries and are directed towards self-sustainability. Furthermore, it is the true bridge to reduce gap between societies when differences are immeasurable. The concept of development has also been changing and nowadays it is not a purely economic concept. Education, science and technology are increasingly taking a larger role in what is meant by development. Moreover, it is commonly accepted that Universities should transfer knowledge to society, and the transfer of knowledge should be open to countries most in need for developing. If the importance of the country development is given by education, science and technology, knowledge transfer would be one of the most clear of ways of Cooperation for Development. Therefore, university cooperation is one of the most powerful tools to achieve it, placing universities as agents of development. In Spain, the role of universities as agents of development and cooperation has been largely strengthened. All about this work deals to how to implement both Cooperation for Development and Land Management within Survey Engineering at the EHEA framework.

We apply diffusion strategies to propose a cooperative reinforcement learning algorithm, in which agents in a network communicate with their neighbors to improve predictions about their environment. The algorithm is suitable to learn off-policy even in large state spaces. We provide a mean-square-error performance analysis under constant step-sizes. The gain of cooperation in the form of more stability and less bias and variance in the prediction error, is illustrated in the context of a classical model. We show that the improvement in performance is especially significant when the behavior policy of the agents is different from the target policy under evaluation.

In this work we review some earlier distributed algorithms developed by the authors and collaborators, which are based on two different approaches, namely, distributed moment estimation and distributed stochastic approximations. We show applications of these algorithms on image compression, linear classification and stochastic optimal control. In all cases, the benefit of cooperation is clear: even when the nodes have access to small portions of the data, by exchanging their estimates, they achieve the same performance as that of a centralized architecture, which would gather all the data from all the nodes.

La Guadua (Guadua angustifolia Kunth) es una de las especies forestales más características de Colombia. Perteneciente a la familia del bambú, ésta planta nativa de Colombia usada en la construcción permite una reducción de costos, garantizados, entre otras ventajas, por sus propiedades físico-mecánicas de flexibilidad, resistencia, dureza, efecto climatizado y sismo resistencia. En el proyecto se plantea inicialmente un estudio de la Guadua como material estructural. Se estudiará su anatomía, sus propiedades físicas y mecánicas así como la normativa existente que rige su uso en construcción y por último se darán algunos ejemplos en los que se puede comprobar su uso en la actualidad. Posteriormente se procederá al desarrollo del proyecto cuya finalidad es el diseño de una estructura modular multifuncional que se necesita para llevarla a cabo en un proyecto de cooperación localizado en Neiva (Colombia). El proyecto incluirá todos los documentos necesarios para un trabajo de estas características: memoria, pliego de condiciones técnicas, presupuesto, planos, así como el Estudio de Seguridad y Salud Laboral. Como solución a las necesidades planteadas en el proyecto de cooperación, se realizará el diseño de dos estructuras modulares cuya finalidad sea las de uso como oficina y como almacén. Se aplicará para su cálculo el CTE cómo normativa de construcción, pero apoyándose en algunos parámetros en la NSR-10, estableciendo una comparativa posterior entre ambas normativas. Debido a la importancia de la acción sísmica en Colombia se comprobará la resistencia sísmica del módulo diseñado según el “Manual de Construcción, evaluación y rehabilitación sismo resistente de viviendas de mampostería” creado por la Asociación Colombiana de Ingeniería Sísmica. Basándose en este manual se definirán los tipos de uniones más favorables sísmicamente de los módulos con el diseño de una cercha auxiliar necesaria según el tipo de unión. ABSTRACT PROJECT: Structural applications of the guadua (Guadua angustifolia Kunth). Project of modular multifunctional structure in Colombia Guadua (Guadua angustifolia Kunth) is one of the forest species more characteristics of Colombia. Pertaining to the family of the bamboo, this one native plant of Colombia used in the construction allows a reduction of costs, guaranteed, among others advantages, by its physic mechanical properties of flexibility, resistance, hardness, climatic effect and earthquake resistance. The project initially considers a study of the Guadua as structural material. We will study its anatomy, its physical and mechanical properties as well as the existing norm that governs its use in construction and finally some examples will be provided in which its actual use can be verified. Later on, we will proceed with the development of the project which purpose is the design of a multifunctional modular structure required to in a project of cooperation located in Neiva (Colombia). The project will include all the necessary documents for a work of these characteristics: memory, technical specifications, budget, drawings, as well as the Security and Labor Health Study. In order to satisfy the needs raised in the cooperation project, we will undertake the design of two modular structures with the purpose to be used as office and warehouse. The construction normative CTE will be applied for its calculation, but some parameters will be based in the NSR-10, establishing a comparison between both norms. Due to the importance of the seismic action in Colombia, the seismic resistance of the module will be verified according to the “Manual of Construction, evaluation and rehabilitation resistant earthquake of rubblework houses” created by the Colombian Association of Seismic Engineering,. We will also use this Manual to define the types of unions more favorable from seismic point of view, designing the required auxiliary segments according to the type of union.

Ante la cuestión ¿La universidad debe amoldarse a la realidad ambiental o debe precursar nuevas realidades? se propone demostrar la factibilidad de alcanzar aproximaciones objetivables hacia el desarrollo sostenible, mediante la cooperación universitaria transfronteriza en ambientes urbanos insulares y costeros de la subregión del Caribe y Centroamérica. Se desarrolla el estudio en cuatro momentos: momento proyectivo en el cual se delimita el problema y se contextualiza su significación en el plano teórico de las sub-áreas implicadas. Fue reconocida la existencia de un problema social que, más allá de significar una actuación negativa intencional humana, revela una insuficiencia en el aprovechamiento de un potencial conocido y estratégico cuyos síntomas suelen ser: crisis ambiental generalizada; poca capacidad de respuesta por parte de las universidades ante las exigencias del desarrollo sostenible; incipientes estrategias de cooperación interinstitucional con refuerzo negativo en la atomización de esfuerzos materiales y comunicacionales. Se contrastaron enfoques y se adoptó una postura ante un hecho determinante: La universidad como articulador del desarrollo sostenible; hecho concretado en un objeto investigable: la cooperación universitaria como estrategia aún no focalizada en acercamientos al desarrollo sostenible. En la estrategia de abordaje de la investigación, la gestión fue considerada hipótesis de trabajo no positivista, generando en consecuencia la aplicación de adaptaciones a metodologías reconocidas, contextualizadas dentro de una particular visión sobre del hecho investigado. En el momento metodológico se describe el diseño concreto y los procedimientos de abordaje del problema en todas sus fases. En el momento técnico, fueron aplicados instrumentos y técnicas para obtener los datos diagnósticos e iniciar el diseño de un modelo de cooperación universitaria para el desarrollo sostenible. El diagnóstico se basó en estrategias cuali-cuantitativas que permitieron el análisis de resultados en la aplicación de encuestas, entrevistas a expertos, análisis prospectivo estructural, situacional e integrado. La construcción del modelo se desarrolló con fundamento en experiencias de cooperación previas, adoptando modelos de gestión de relevante alcance científico como referencias de aplicación. Se trata de una investigación socio-ambiental cuyo objeto de estudio la identifica como no experimental, aplicada; basada en el análisis descriptivo de datos cualicuantitativos, conducidos en un diseño de campo devenido finalmente en un proyecto factible. La información se recolectada por observación de campo, aplicación de instrumentos y dinámicas inspiradas en grupos de enfoque a escala local y nacional; con sujetos pertenecientes al sistema de educación universitaria e instancias gubernamentales y sociales propias del ámbito seleccionado. Conduce el estudio a la presentación del modelo MOP-GECUDES, descrito en cuanto a sus dimensiones, variables, estrategias; con 166 indicadores clasificados en 49 categorías, expresados en metas. Se presenta en 24 procedimientos, apoyados en 47 instrumentos específicos consistentes en aplicaciones prácticas, hojas metodológicas o manual de instrucciones para la operacionalización del modelo. Se complementa el diseño con un sistema de procedimientos surgidos de la propia experiencia, lo que le atribuye el modelo diseñado el rasgo particular de haber sido diseñado bajo sus propios principios. Faced with the question: Does the college must conform to the environmental reality or has to should promote new realities? This research aims to demonstrate the feasibility of achieving objectifiable approaches towards sustainable development through cross-border university cooperation in urban, coastal and islands space" of Caribbean and Central American. This study is developed in four stages: projective moment, in which delimits the problem, and contextualizes its importance in their theoretical subareas. It was recognized that there is a social problem, that beyond an intentional human action negative, reveals a deficience ability in exploiting potential strategic known and whose symptoms are: widespread environmental crisis, poor ability to answer on the part of universities to the demands of sustainable development; emerging interagency cooperation strategies with the aggravating fragmentation of resources. Were contrasted Approaches and was been adopted a stance before a triggering event: The university as articulator of sustainable development. Fact materialized in a study object: university cooperation as a strategy that yet has not been focused on approaches to sustainable development. In research approach, the management was considered as a working-hypothesis not positivist, consequently, were applied adjustments recognized methodologies that were contextualized within the author's personal view on the matter under investigation. En el momento metodológico se describe el diseño concreto y los procedimientos de abordaje del problema en todas sus fases. At the methodological time, describes the design and procedures to address the problem in all its phases. At the technical time, were applied tools directed to obtain diagnostic data and start designing a model of university cooperation for sustainable development. The diagnosis was based on qualitative and quantitative strategies that allowed the analysis of findings in the surveys, expert interviews, prospective analysis, and structural situational and integrated. Construction of the model was developed on the basis of cooperation experiences of the author, adopting management models relevant scientific scope and application references. It is a socio-environmental research with a not-experimental focus of study, applied, based on the descriptive analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, conducted in a field design that finally was been become a feasible project. The information is collected by field observation, application of instruments inspired in dynamic focus groups at local and national levels, with individual-subjects of the university education system; the government bodies and the social groups of the selected area. The Study leads to the presentation of the model MOP-GECUDES, described in terms of their dimensions, variables, strategies; with 166 indicators classified in 49 categories, expressed in its activities and goals. It comes in 24 procedures, supported by 47 specific instruments consisting of practical applications, methodology sheets or instructions for the operationalization of the model. Design is complemented with a system of procedures arising from the own experience. This have the particular attribute of generate a model than has been designed under its own principles.

We introduce a diffusion-based algorithm in which multiple agents cooperate to predict a common and global statevalue function by sharing local estimates and local gradient information among neighbors. Our algorithm is a fully distributed implementation of the gradient temporal difference with linear function approximation, to make it applicable to multiagent settings. Simulations illustrate the benefit of cooperation in learning, as made possible by the proposed algorithm.

In recent years, the establishment of cooperation networks between universities is one of the most important trends in higher education all over the world. Well recognized local and international university networks have been implemented in most educational institutions. It is common to find associations of various prestigious universities collaborating in a high-‐technology research project including a very specialized teaching as well. This is the most common cooperation networks among higher education institutions in developed countries. An increasingly common type of networking between developed and developing universities is related to cooperation for development. This is the case of many universities in Africa that are needed for external help in order to improve its capabilities. Numerous memorandums of understanding regarding first world institutions that collaborate with universities in developing countries describe contributions of eventual visiting professors, teaching material and courses. But probably there exist another type of more important, but less explored association, such as networking among developing universities. The new goal, in this case, is not only the excellence but also the mutual development.

La búsqueda de financiación para proyectos de desarrollo es un tema que siempre debe ir a la vanguardia en el mundo de la cooperación, ya que sin los suficientes recursos es muy difícil lograr la materialización de cualquier ayuda y su futuro seguimiento. La gestión de recursos para proyectos de desarrollo debe ser de carácter solidario, es decir, mientras más se involucren las personas más fuerza, cuerpo y duración tendrá cualquier iniciativa de cooperación. El crowfunding es una herramienta poderosa que funciona por la solidaridad de muchos para lograr ayudar a otros, y esta sensibilización guiada por una buena motivación logra no solo captar recursos sino involucrar a las personas en los proyectos, no solo los beneficiarios sino todo aquel que sienta empatía por ayudar y colaborar forma parte y abraza la iniciativa corriendo la voz a más personas para sumar fuerzas. Seeking funding for development projects is an issue that should always be at the forefront in the world of cooperation, because without sufficient resources is very difficult to achieve the realization of any help and future monitoring. Resource management for development projects should be supportive and participatory, i.e, the more people more strength, enthusiasm, duration and chances of success will involve any cooperation initiative. The Crowdfunding is a powerful tool that works for solidarity of many to get help others, and this awareness guided by a good motivation does involve people in the projects, not only the beneficiaries but anyone who feels empathy for aiding and abetting embracing the initiative and spreading the word to more people to join forces.

Stream-mining approach is defined as a set of cutting-edge techniques designed to process streams of data in real time, in order to extract knowledge. In the particular case of classification, stream-mining has to adapt its behaviour to the volatile underlying data distributions, what has been called concept drift. Moreover, it is important to note that concept drift may lead to situations where predictive models become invalid and have therefore to be updated to represent the actual concepts that data poses. In this context, there is a specific type of concept drift, known as recurrent concept drift, where the concepts represented by data have already appeared in the past. In those cases the learning process could be saved or at least minimized by applying a previously trained model. This could be extremely useful in ubiquitous environments that are characterized by the existence of resource constrained devices. To deal with the aforementioned scenario, meta-models can be used in the process of enhancing the drift detection mechanisms used by data stream algorithms, by representing and predicting when the change will occur. There are some real-world situations where a concept reappears, as in the case of intrusion detection systems (IDS), where the same incidents or an adaptation of them usually reappear over time. In these environments the early prediction of drift by means of a better knowledge of past models can help to anticipate to the change, thus improving efficiency of the model regarding the training instances needed. By means of using meta-models as a recurrent drift detection mechanism, the ability to share concepts representations among different data mining processes is open. That kind of exchanges could improve the accuracy of the resultant local model as such model may benefit from patterns similar to the local concept that were observed in other scenarios, but not yet locally. This would also improve the efficiency of training instances used during the classification process, as long as the exchange of models would aid in the application of already trained recurrent models, that have been previously seen by any of the collaborative devices. Which it is to say that the scope of recurrence detection and representation is broaden. In fact the detection, representation and exchange of concept drift patterns would be extremely useful for the law enforcement activities fighting against cyber crime. Being the information exchange one of the main pillars of cooperation, national units would benefit from the experience and knowledge gained by third parties. Moreover, in the specific scope of critical infrastructures protection it is crucial to count with information exchange mechanisms, both from a strategical and technical scope. The exchange of concept drift detection schemes in cyber security environments would aid in the process of preventing, detecting and effectively responding to threads in cyber space. Furthermore, as a complement of meta-models, a mechanism to assess the similarity between classification models is also needed when dealing with recurrent concepts. In this context, when reusing a previously trained model a rough comparison between concepts is usually made, applying boolean logic. The introduction of fuzzy logic comparisons between models could lead to a better efficient reuse of previously seen concepts, by applying not just equal models, but also similar ones. This work faces the aforementioned open issues by means of: the MMPRec system, that integrates a meta-model mechanism and a fuzzy similarity function; a collaborative environment to share meta-models between different devices; a recurrent drift generator that allows to test the usefulness of recurrent drift systems, as it is the case of MMPRec. Moreover, this thesis presents an experimental validation of the proposed contributions using synthetic and real datasets.

México es de los pocos países en el mundo que ha realizado dos grandes programas para la construcción de autopistas en colaboración con el sector privado. El primero, fue realizado entre 1989 y 1994, con resultados adversos por el mal diseño del esquema de concesiones; y, el segundo con mejores resultados, en operación desde 2003 mediante nuevos modelos de asociación público-privada (APP). El objetivo de la presente investigación es estudiar los modelos de asociación público-privada empleados en México para la provisión de infraestructura carretera, realizando el análisis y la evaluación de la distribución de riesgos entre el sector público y privado en cada uno de los modelos con el propósito de establecer una propuesta de reasignación de riesgos para disminuir el costo global y la incertidumbre de los proyectos. En la primera parte se describe el estado actual del conocimiento de las asociaciones público-privadas para desarrollar proyectos de infraestructura, incluyendo los antecedentes, la definición y las tipologías de los esquemas APP, así como la práctica internacional de programas como el modelo británico Private Finance Initiative (PFI), resultados de proyectos en la Unión Europea y programas APP en otros países. También, se destaca la participación del sector privado en el financiamiento de la infraestructura del transporte de México en la década de 1990. En los capítulos centrales se aborda el estudio de los modelos APP que se han utilizado en el país en la construcción de la red de carreteras de alta capacidad. Se presentan las características y los resultados del programa de autopistas 1989-94, así como el rescate financiero y las medidas de reestructuración de los proyectos concesionados, aspectos que obligaron a las autoridades mexicanas a cambiar la normatividad para la aprobación de los proyectos según su rentabilidad, modificar la legislación de caminos y diseñar nuevos esquemas de colaboración entre el gobierno y el sector privado. Los nuevos modelos APP vigentes desde 2003 son: nuevo modelo de concesiones para desarrollar autopistas de peaje, modelo de proyectos de prestación de servicios (peaje sombra) para modernizar carreteras existentes y modelo de aprovechamiento de activos para concesionar autopistas de peaje en operación a cambio de un pago. De estos modelos se realizaron estudios de caso en los que se determinan medidas de desempeño operativo (niveles de tráfico, costos y plazos de construcción) y rentabilidad financiera (tasa interna de retorno y valor presente neto). En la última parte se efectúa la identificación, análisis y evaluación de los riesgos que afectaron los costos, el tiempo de ejecución y la rentabilidad de los proyectos de ambos programas. Entre los factores de riesgo analizados se encontró que los más importantes fueron: las condiciones macroeconómicas del país (inflación, producto interno bruto, tipo de cambio y tasa de interés), deficiencias en la planificación de los proyectos (diseño, derecho de vía, tarifas, permisos y estimación del tránsito) y aportaciones públicas en forma de obra. Mexico is one of the few countries in the world that has developed two major programs for highway construction in collaboration with the private sector. The first one was carried out between 1989 and 1994 with adverse outcomes due to the wrong design of concession schemes; and, the second one, in operation since 2003, through new public-private partnership models (PPPs). The objective of this research is to study public-private partnership models used in Mexico for road infrastructure provision, performing the analysis and evaluation of risk’s distribution between the public and the private sector in each model in order to draw up a proposal for risk’s allocation to reduce the total cost and the uncertainty of projects. The first part describes the current state of knowledge in public-private partnership to develop infrastructure projects, including the history, definition and types of PPP models, as well as international practice of programs such as the British Private Finance Initiative (PFI) model, results in the European Union and PPP programs in other countries. Also, it stands out the private sector participation in financing of Mexico’s transport infrastructure in 1990s. The next chapters present the study of public-private partnerships models that have been used in the country in the construction of the high capacity road network. Characteristics and outcomes of the highway program 1989-94 are presented, as well as the financial bailout and restructuring measures of the concession projects, aspects that forced the Mexican authorities to change projects regulations, improve road’s legislation and design new schemes of cooperation between the Government and the private sector. The new PPP models since 2003 are: concession model to develop toll highways, private service contracts model (shadow toll) to modernize existing roads and highway assets model for the concession of toll roads in operation in exchange for a payment. These models were analyzed using case studies in which measures of operational performance (levels of traffic, costs and construction schedules) and financial profitability (internal rate of return and net present value) are determined. In the last part, the analysis and assessment of risks that affect costs, execution time and profitability of the projects are carried out, for both programs. Among the risk factors analyzed, the following ones were found to be the most important: country macroeconomic conditions (inflation, gross domestic product, exchange rate and interest rate), deficiencies in projects planning (design, right of way, tolls, permits and traffic estimation) and public contributions in the form of construction works.

El presente trabajo recoge los resultados de una investigación sobre la «vivienda productiva», es decir, de la casa como lugar de trabajo. Dicha investigación se ha ocupado de explorar cómo influyen las cotidianeidades doméstico-laborales actuales —junto con sus arquitecturas y los urbanismos que estas generan— en la sociedad, en especial en temas sociales centrales como la construcción de las subjetividades, y de una vida en comunidad. Asimismo, explora cómo podrían influir en un futuro. La hipótesis sobre la que se trabaja, y que finalmente se intenta demostrar, consiste en que, en la territorialidad múltiple de lo laboral, la vivienda, como plataforma doméstica multiusos, productiva y reproductiva de la que muchas personas disponen, desempeña un papel nodal, y es posible que en el futuro su papel sea aún más importante y más visible. La vivienda productiva funciona como una infraestructura urbana desde la cual se construyen diferentes tipos de bienes materiales e inmateriales, pero sobre todo formas de relación, sociales y productivas con otros, además de imaginarios y afectos. La vivienda como infraestructura productiva y reproductiva es tanto «fábrica fundamental de lo social», como nos enseña Silvia Federici, como «fábrica de lo urbano». El trabajo en casa, como parte de diferentes dinámicas «dispersas» del trabajo que se dan en la actualidad, presenta tanto problemáticas y desafíos importantes, como capitales y posibilidades sociales. Por un lado, puede facilitar una absorción de tipo «24/7» vinculada a las lógicas de producción dispersa y consumo dominantes además de la que se da por las dinámicas patriarcales tradicionales, y en múltiples casos situaciones de evidente asimetría y de explotación laboral. También puede propiciar situaciones socialmente extendidas o impuestas de soledad y aislamiento. Sin embargo, está asimismo vinculado al surgimiento de espacios de experimentación tanto en soledad como en compañía, de cooperación y de intercambio, además de a la evidente posibilidad de construir rutinas propias y, por tanto, una subjetividad laboral propia. Por otro lado, frente a la idea general y homogénea del trabajador casero como un sujeto mayoritariamente aislado de su entorno, las jornadas de trabajo de los trabajadores caseros estudiados presentan una gran diversidad. Estas pueden conllevar aislamiento y exclusión, así como acompañar diferentes formas de construcción de una ciudadanía activa, tanto en solitario, como mediante formas de participación activa en la construcción de una vida en comunidad. En esta investigación se analizan, pues, desafíos y oportunidades de estas espacialidades del trabajo y, a través de este análisis, se indaga en el papel de los marcos físicos, organizativos y simbólicos actuales para la vivienda y para la ciudad pensada desde los trabajadores caseros. Al mismo tiempo se exploran nuevos tipos de vivienda y urbanismos que puedan quizás acompañar procesos sociales de inclusión, así como de emancipación, cooperación e intercambio y, en general, nuevas formas de vecindad y bienestar compartido en los ámbitos doméstico-productivos. Metodológicamente, las singularidades presentes en las realidades estudiadas invitan además a explorar protocolos de análisis, métodos de diseño, de gestión y gobierno que, desde lo micro, puedan dialogar con lo cotidiano y sus singularidades. Diego Barajas, autor de la tesis, es arquitecto dedicado a la práctica, a la investigación y la docencia. Su trabajo se focaliza en explorar el carácter mediador de la arquitectura frente a lo cotidiano y sus microrrealidades. Es profesor de proyectos de urbanismo en la IE School of Architecture y es miembro de Husos, una plataforma de investigación y diseño orientada a la innovación en arquitectura y urbanismo, con sede en Madrid. Es el autor del libro Dispersion, A Study of Global Mobility and the Dynamics of a Fictional Urbanism (Episode Publishers, Róterdam, 2003). Sus trabajos teóricos y de investigación han aparecido en libros y revistas internacionales tales como The Domestic and The Foreign in Architecture (010 Publishers, 2008), Public Spheres, a Europan Discussion (Europan9, 2007), Photoespaña 05 (La Fábrica, Madrid, 2005), Domus, Volume, Abitare, Architese, Plot, y Summa+. Antes de estudiar en Róterdam, se gradúa con Honores en la Universidad de los Andes en 1999 y su tesis de grado de arquitectura recibe la máxima distinción como proyecto de Grado Meritorio. ABSTRACT The present study records an investigation into the «productive house», or the home as a workplace. This investigation looks at how working from home, its architectures, and the urban dynamics generated around it influence daily life and the construction of society. It also explores what influences home-based work might have in the future, particularly in central themes such as the biopolitical construction of subjectivities and community life. The central hypothesis revolves around the idea that the home, as a multi-use infrastructure that most of us have access to, plays a fundamental role in the contemporary work sphere, due to —or even in spite of— the omnipresence of work in practically every moment and area of our daily lives, and might play a main role in the future. The home functions as a kind of hub from which we create different kinds of material and immaterial goods, but above all relationships with others, both social and productive, as well as imaginaries and affections. The home, as a machine for production and reproduction, is as much a main «factory of the social» as Silvia Federici describes it, as a «factory of the urban». Working from home, as one of several «dispersed» work dynamics that are part of the contemporary world of work, presents as many important problematics and challenges as it does possibilities and social capital. On the one hand, it can contribute to kind of «24/7» absorption linked both to the logistics of the current dispersed production and consumption, and to that of traditional patriarchal dynamics, and in some cases even clearly asymmetrical situations that exploit the workforce. It can also lead to the socially widespread phenomena of isolation and loneliness, at times imposed upon home-based workers. However, by the same token, it is also linked to the growth of experimental spaces of cooperation and exchange, both solitary and in company, as well as the clear possibility of constructing individualised routines and, therefore, a personal laboural subjectivity. On the other hand, contrary to the generalised, homogenous idea of a home-based worker who is mostly isolated from his or her environment, the working days of those we studied went hand in hand with different ways of building subjectivities. This could be as much in exclusion and isolation as through building an active citizenship, at times in solitary and at times actively participating in the construction of communal life. In this investigation, therefore, the challenges and opportunities of the home as workplace have been analysed, and through this analysis we have inquired into the role of current physical, organisational and symbolic frameworks for the home and for the city from the perspective of home workers. At the same time we have explored new types of homes and of town planning that could perhaps accompany social processes of diversity and inclusion as well as emancipation, cooperation and exchange and, in general, new forms of shared welfare in productive domestic environments. Methodologically, the singularities present in the cases studied also invite us to explore protocols of analysis, methods of design, management and government that, from the micro level, could dialogue with the peculiarities of day-to-day life. The author of this thesis, Diego Barajas, is an architect dedicated to practice, investigation and teaching. His work is focussed on exploring the mediating nature of architecture and the built environment in terms of daily life and its microrealities. He is professor of urban projects at the IE School of Architecture and member of Husos, a platform for investigation and town planning based in Madrid. He is the author of the book Dispersion, A Study of Global Mobility and the Dynamics of a Fictional Urbanism (Episode Publishers, Rotterdam, 2003) and his theoretical works and investigations have appeared in books such as The Domestic and The Foreign in Architecture (010 Publishers, 2008), Public Spheres, a Europan Discussion (Europan9, 2007), Photoespaña 05 (La Fábrica, Madrid, 2005), and in international magazines such as Domus, Volume, Abitare, Architese, Plot and Summa+. His work has been exhibited in places such as the Venice Biennial (main selection), the Rotterdam Biennial, the Tapies Foundation and Photoespaña, among others, and forms part of the permanent collection of the FRAC Centre in Orleans and the Historisch Museum of Rotterdam. Before studying in Rotterdam, he graduated with Honours from the University of the Andes in 1999, and his architecture degree thesis received the maximum distinction of Meritorious Graduation Project.

In this paper, we introduce a dynamical complexity measure, namely the degree of team cooperation, in the aim of investigating "how much" the components of a grammar system cooperate when forming a team in the process of generating terminal words. We present several results which strongly suggest that this measure is trivial in the sense that the degree of team cooperation of any language is bounded by a constant. Finally, we prove that the degree of team cooperation of a given cooperating/distributed grammar system cannot be algorithmically computed and discuss a decision problem.

In recent years, international cooperation processes have become a key mechanism for companies to internationalise their innovative activities, par ticularly in the case of small businesses whose size reduces their possibilities of developing internationalisation strategies autonomously in the same way as larger companies. In Spain, the existence of two parallel programmes with similar structures oriented towards Europe (EUREKA) and Latin America (IBEROEKA) raises the question as to whether the fact that companies participate in only one (unipolar) or both (bipolar) of these programmes is the result of a selection process, which, in turn, results in the existence of different collectives with different efficiency parameters. The aim of this study is to provide a comparative analysis based on the final reports of Spanish companies that have participated in the EUREKA programme. Two groups of companies were compared: one comprising companies that have only had international experience in Europe (EUREKA); and another formed by companies that have also carried out IBEROEKA projects. The conclusions confirm that the behaviour of both groups of companies differs substantially and reveal the importance of geographical perspective in the analysis of international cooperation in technology. This disparate behaviour is a relevant aspect that must be taken into account when designing policies to promote international technological cooperation.

Despite the benefits for exc hanging experiences among planners at the global scale, the strong context dependency of urban planning creates in many instances significant difficulties to extrapolate experiences from one geographical context to the other. If progress is to be achieved in international cooperation programmes, differences and commonalities should be assessed before la unching any academic initiative. In that respect, this p aper makes a brief foresight exercise on how future trends and challenges, which may affect the urban pl anning field, should be taken into consideration according to two different contexts: Spain and Latin America. A segmentation matrix is used to expose a nd discuss the different effects of future trends on both contexts. Some tentative conclusions are drawn for the development of international educational programmes
