This paper analyzes the relationship among research collaboration, number of documents and number of citations of computer science research activity. It analyzes the number of documents and citations and how they vary by number of authors. They are also analyzed (according to author set cardinality) under different circumstances, that is, when documents are written in different types of collaboration, when documents are published in different document types, when documents are published in different computer science subdisciplines, and, finally, when documents are published by journals with different impact factor quartiles. To investigate the above relationships, this paper analyzes the publications listed in the Web of Science and produced by active Spanish university professors between 2000 and 2009, working in the computer science field. Analyzing all documents, we show that the highest percentage of documents are published by three authors, whereas single-authored documents account for the lowest percentage. By number of citations, there is no positive association between the author cardinality and citation impact. Statistical tests show that documents written by two authors receive more citations per document and year than documents published by more authors. In contrast, results do not show statistically significant differences between documents published by two authors and one author. The research findings suggest that international collaboration results on average in publications with higher citation rates than national and institutional collaborations. We also find differences regarding citation rates between journals and conferences, across different computer science subdisciplines and journal quartiles as expected. Finally, our impression is that the collaborative level (number of authors per document) will increase in the coming years, and documents published by three or four authors will be the trend in computer science literature.

ABSTRACT Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture has proved to be one of the capital, alluded references cited and reproduced in the architectural literature of the recent times. Not surprisingly, in the Introduction to the book, Vincent Scully wrote that "yet it is probably the most important writing on the making of architecture since Le Corbusier´s ‘Vers une Architecture’, of 1923". However, its sources seem to be unexplored or at least not examined. Therefore, Road to 1966 is presented as a research with three fundamental starting objectives: (1) first, the interest in studying the burning architectural debate, created within the arising frictions among the protagonists of the years that changed the status of what was considered a legitimate work in architecture; (2) second, it seeks to extend the chronology of the intellectual background of the book written by Venturi, which marked the second half of the twentieth century, in a retroactive manner to the years of the World War II, when it seems that some new positions from which to approach the issues of practice, theory and history of architecture began to be consistent and recognizable; (3) lastly, to offer a new interpretation of Venturi’s text, now understood not as the primal source of the great transformations of the recent architecture (of the last fifty years), but as the necessary result of that background intellectual chronology. The American architecture of these post-war years has proved to be crucial in its later stages, and especially in relation to the book of Robert Venturi. In fact, Scully in the Introduction to the first edition of Complexity and Contradiction, noted that "the major argument of this book was laid out in the late fifties". The fact that the architecture of the twentieth century –when the leading figure of Venturi was consolidated- has in the North America of the sixties one of its most decisive chapters, (often assumed as the next step to the imported European heroic modernism) today seems to be discussed by almost anyone. Now, what about the intervening years? What happens between the end of the World War II and the sixties? The potential lack of a clear dominant position of this stage may have plunged it into oblivion or oversight by historians and critics. Thus, this research is structured around the role that occupies Venturi’s work, whereas this is not its only subject. Rather taken as an excuse, the thesis deepens deductively in the set of circumstances that could lead its author to the conclusions he developed in 1966, detecting biographical and academic environments, shared thoughts and epistemological and mutual professional influences, that would justify a new interpretation of this book as a necessary corollary of an outlook of crisis and change (this major and center subject in this dissertation), contrary to what has been commonly understood upon this work. The research focuses predominantly on tracing the sources cited by Venturi himself in his book, as well as other texts of wider dissemination and outreach (usually professional journals not exclusively academic, as well as books, catalogs of exhibitions, symposia proceedings...), and not so much in the buildings or unbuilt projects; but also, perhaps, it is focused in the terms in which these works were published, commented or reviewed. Hence an approach conceived sub specie bibliotecae has been adopted, with working methods characterized by their chronological component, and then the analytical-comparative one: in other words, a historiographicaljournalistic method able to relate stories or courses of certain ideas or notions, within a broader general context in its architectural, aesthetic, sociological-generational, cultural, philosophical, scientific, political, literary... sides. This approach intends to establish a re-reading of Venturi’s first book and its years of gestation, from some new understandings, more modern than postmodern(ist), proposing a possible evolution of the latest architecture whose roots, after all, would have their origin in the North America of 1946-1966.

The effects of inclusion of pea hulls (PH) in the diet on growth performance, development of the gastrointestinal tract and nutrient retention were studied in broilers from 1 to 18d of age. There were a control diet based on low fibre ingredients (69.3 total dietary fibre (16.1g crude fibre/kg)) and three additional diets that resulted from the dilution of the basal diet with 25, 50 and 75g PH/kg (81.2, 93.2, and 105.1g total dietary fibre/kg diet, respectively). Each treatment was replicated six times and the experimental unit was a cage with 12 chicks. Growth performance, development of the gastrointestinal tract and the coefficients of total tract apparent retention (CTTAR) of nutrients were recorded at 6, 12 and 18d of age. In addition, jejunal morphology was measured at 12 and 18d and the coefficients of apparent ileal digestibility (CAID) of nutrients at 18d of age. Pea hulls inclusion affected all the parameters studied. The inclusion of 25 and 50g PH/kg diet improved growth performance as compared to the control diet. The relative weight (g/kg body weight) of proventriculus (P≤0.01), gizzard (P≤0.001) and ceca (P≤0.05) increased linearly as the level of PH in the diet increased. The inclusion of PH affected quadratically (P≤0.01) villus height:crypt depth ratio with the highest value shown at 25g PH/kg. In general, the CTTAR and CAID of nutrients increased linearly and quadratically (P≤0.05) with increasing levels of PH, showing maximum values with PH level between 25 and 50g/kg diet. We conclude that the size of the digestive organs increases with increasing levels of PH in the diet. In general, the best performance and nutrient digestibility values were observed with levels of PH within the range of 25 and 50g/kg. Therefore, young broilers have a requirement for a minimum amount of dietary fibre. When pea hulls are used as a source of fibre, the level of total dietary fibre required for optimal performance is within the range of 81.2–93.2g/kg diet (25.6–35.0g crude fibre/kg diet). An excess of total dietary fibre (above 93.2g/kg diet) might reduce nutrient digestibility and growth performance to values similar to those observed with the control diet.

The authors are from UPM and are relatively grouped, and all have intervened in different academic or real cases on the subject, at different times as being of different age. With precedent from E. Torroja and A. Páez in Madrid Spain Safety Probabilistic models for concrete about 1957, now in ICOSSAR conferences, author J.M. Antón involved since autumn 1967 for euro-steel construction in CECM produced a math model for independent load superposition reductions, and using it a load coefficient pattern for codes in Rome Feb. 1969, practically adopted for European constructions, giving in JCSS Lisbon Feb. 1974 suggestion of union for concrete-steel-al.. That model uses model for loads like Gumbel type I, for 50 years for one type of load, reduced to 1 year to be added to other independent loads, the sum set in Gumbel theories to 50 years return period, there are parallel models. A complete reliability system was produced, including non linear effects as from buckling, phenomena considered somehow in actual Construction Eurocodes produced from Model Codes. The system was considered by author in CEB in presence of Hydraulic effects from rivers, floods, sea, in reference with actual practice. When redacting a Road Drainage Norm in MOPU Spain an optimization model was realized by authors giving a way to determine the figure of Return Period, 10 to 50 years, for the cases of hydraulic flows to be considered in road drainage. Satisfactory examples were a stream in SE of Spain with Gumbel Type I model and a paper of Ven Te Chow with Mississippi in Keokuk using Gumbel type II, and the model can be modernized with more varied extreme laws. In fact in the MOPU drainage norm the redacting commission acted also as expert to set a table of return periods for elements of road drainage, in fact as a multi-criteria complex decision system. These precedent ideas were used e.g. in wide Codes, indicated in symposia or meetings, but not published in journals in English, and a condensate of contributions of authors is presented. The authors are somehow involved in optimization for hydraulic and agro planning, and give modest hints of intended applications in presence of agro and environment planning as a selection of the criteria and utility functions involved in bayesian, multi-criteria or mixed decision systems. Modest consideration is made of changing in climate, and on the production and commercial systems, and on others as social and financial.

ABSTRACT. "AFTER EINSTEIN:ANARCHITECTUREFORATHEORY." In 1905, three articles were published in the journal "Annalen der Physik ". They revolutionized physical sciences and threw into crisis the newtonian concepts of Space and Time. The formulation of the Theory of Relativity by Albert Einstein put a strain on the absolute value of these concepts, and proposed new reflections about them in the field of Physics. Could this revolution be extrapolated to the field of Architecture, where Space and Time have a main role? It is necessary to understand the complexity of architecture and the countless variables involved in its definition. For this reason, in this PhD. Thesis, we study a specific aspect: how a paradigm (Theory of Relativity) can intervene and modify -or not- Architecture. It is proposed to go back to the origin; to unravel the moment in which the interaction between the Theory of Relativity and the Theory of Architecture takes place, to determine whether the Theory of Relativity influenced on the theoretical avant-garde writings applied to Architecture. "After Einstein. An architecture for a theory " will search the connection points between the Theory of Relativity and architectural avant-garde theory of the early twentieth century, the influence and contamination between them, giving rise to new architectures that define new formal arguments for a new architectural language. Annalen der Physik This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one describes the geographical and chronological scope in which the Theory of Relativity is developed showing its theoretical implications in the field of art, according to a new definition of Space linked to Time, as an event that takes place in a fourdimensional space; the indetermination of the measurement of space and time, and the importance of understanding "matter" as "energy". The second chapter examines the avant-garde movements contemporary to the theory of relativity. Cubism is shown as an artist movement that occasionally participates in mathematics and geometry, under the influence of Henri Poincaré and non-Euclidean geometries. Futurism explores the advances of science at a certain distance, with lack of scientific rigor to extract the laws of their new plastic constructive idealism. Scientific language is present in concepts like "simultaneity" (Boccioni), "expanding light in space" (Severini and Carra), "four-dimensional space", "space-time", "light-air-force," "matter and energy" similar to the operational concepts of Einstein´s theory. While it is not possible to attribute a leading role to the Theory of Relativity, as a benchmark for artistic laws, in 1936, with the publication of the Dimensionist manifest, the new ideas of space-time followed by cubist and futurist were attributed to the Einstein's theory. The third chapter describes how the Theory of Relativity became an inspiration for the architectural theory. Structured into three subsections, we study the main author who studied the theory of relativity and ,as a consequence, contributed with some concepts and ideas to the theory of architecture (Van Doesburg), where influences and contact points took place (Lissitzky, Eggeling, Moholy-Nagy) and how were disseminated throughArchitecture (Einsteinturm, by Mendelsohn) and journals. The fourth chapter draws the conclusions of this PhD. Thesis, which could be well summarized by Moholy Nagy in his text "Vision in Motion" (1946): vi Since "space-time" can be a misleading term, it especially has to be emphasized that the space-time problems in the arts are not necessarily based upon Einstein´s Theory of Relativity. This is not meant to discount the relevance of his theory to the arts. But artists and laymen seldom have the mathematical knowledge to visualize in scientific formulae the analogies to their own work. Einstein's terminology of "space-time" and "relativity" has been absorbed by our daily language.

In this paper the dynamics of axisymmetric, slender, viscous liquid bridges having volume close to the cylindrical one, and subjected to a small gravitational field parallel to the axis of the liquid bridge, is considered within the context of one-dimensional theories. Although the dynamics of liquid bridges has been treated through a numerical analysis in the inviscid case, numerical methods become inappropriate to study configurations close to the static stability limit because the evolution time, and thence the computing time, increases excessively. To avoid this difficulty, the problem of the evolution of these liquid bridges has been attacked through a nonlinear analysis based on the singular perturbation method and, whenever possible, the results obtained are compared with the numerical ones.

The stability of an infinitely long compound liquid column is analysed by using a one-dimensional inviscid slice model. Results obtained from this one-dimensional linear analysis are applicable to the study of compound capillary jets, which are used in the ink-jet printing technique. Stability limits and the breaking regimes of such fluid configurations are established, and, whenever possible, theoretical results are compared with experimental ones.
