En los últimos años se han comercializado un gran número de pilas diferentes acorde en muchos casos con la diversificación de equipos electrónicos portátiles, y en otros buscando nuevas áreas de aplicación. Se presenta un estudio comparativo de pilas comerciales resaltando sus características, relación calidad-precio y campo de aplicación. Se pretende así orientar en la elección de un sistema para una aplicación determinada o en las precauciones de manejo de sistemas ya existentes.

Con este segundo capítulo se completa esta pequeña serie dedicada a pilas y acumuladores comerciales. Se abordan aquí con cierta extensión los sistemas especiales, de gran interés y poco conocidos generalmente. El resto del capítulo se dedica a acumuladores.

I feel you: Towards affect-sensitive domotic Spoken Conversational Agents

We describe the work on infusion of emotion into limitedtask autonomous spoken conversational agents (SCAs) situated in the domestic environment, using a Need-inspired task-independentEmotion model (NEMO). In order to demonstrate the generation of a?ect through the use of the model, we describe the work of integrating it with a naturallanguage mixed-initiative HiFi-control SCA. NEMO and the host system communicates externally, removing the need for the Dialog Manager to be modi?ed as done in most existing dialog systems, in order to be adaptive. We also summarize the work on automatic a?ect prediction, namely frustration and contentment from dialog features, a non-conventional source, in the attempt of moving towards a more user-centric approach.

B.I.E.M.in 3-D elasto-plastic problems

In this paper we present the application of BIEM to elastoplastic axysimetric problems. After a brief presentation of the basic integral formulation we introduce the discretizing and iterative process for its resolution. Simple problems are compared in order to test the possibilities of the method and we finish commenting on future research needs.

Information integration: from P&I diagrams to functional models

Information integration is a very important topic. Reusing the knowledge and having common and exchangeable representations have been an active research topic in process systems engineering. In this paper we deal with information integration in two different ways, the first one sharing knowledge between different heterogeneous applications and the second one integrating two different (but complementary) types of knowledge: functional and structural. A new architecture to integrate these representation and use for several purposes is presented in this paper.

Cristales líquidos: bases de su comportamiento I

En este primer artículo, de una serie de tres,se presentan las principales clases de cristales líquidos existentes, así como las configuraciones más usuales de trabajo. Se presentan algunas formas de fabricación de células, y se dan las bases físicas de su comportamiento óptico, eléctrico y magnético. Finalmente se ofrece una panorámica global de sus principales aplicaciones.

A Three-Dimensional B.I.E.M. Program

The program PECET (Boundary Element Program in Three-Dimensional Elasticity) is presented in this paper. This program, written in FORTRAN V and implemen ted on a UNIVAC 1100,has more than 10,000 sentences and 96 routines and has a lot of capabilities which will be explained in more detail. The object of the program is the analysis of 3-D piecewise heterogeneous elastic domains, using a subregionalization process and 3-D parabolic isopara, metric boundary elements. The program uses special data base management which will be described below, and the modularity followed to write it gives a great flexibility to the package. The Method of Analysis includes an adaptive integration process, an original treatment of boundary conditions, a complete treatment of body forces, the utilization of a Modified Conjugate Gradient Method of solution and an original process of storage which makes it possible to save a lot of memory.

Retos y oportunidades de la investigación transdisciplinar. Reflexión sobre el papel de la mecánica de materiales en biomedicina : discurso del académico electo Excmo. Sr. D. Manuel Doblaré Castellano y contestación del académico Excmo. Sr. D. Enrique Alarcón Álvarez

En este discurso de ingreso se destacó la importancia de la Mecánica de Materiales y el Modelado Matemático en Biomedicina y, en particular, se mostraron algunas aportaciones relacionadas con el comportamiento funcional de tejidos biológicos. Más en concreto se discutió la importancia de la transdisciplinariedad en la investigación actual y el papel que en esa búsqueda de un lenguaje común entre disciplinas tienen el modelado matemático y la simulación computacional.En particular, en la nueva Biomedicina basada en la evidencia, la interacción transdisciplinar es esencial, como lo demuestran resultados tan evidentes como los dispositivos e implantes inteligentes, las nuevas técnicas de imagen médica, la aparición de órganos artificiales o las crecientemente importantes técnicas de Ingeniería Tisular y Terapias Génica y Celular. Uno de los aspectos de creciente estudio en los últimos años es la epigenética, es decir, el estudio de la influencia del entorno específico de cada individuo en su respuesta biológica. Uno de estos estímulos externos, que se está constatando como fundamental, corresponde a las deformaciones, y ello en todas las escalas: molecular, celular, tisular y orgánica, dando lugar a una nueva subdisciplina: la Mecanobiología de creciente interés. En ella se acoplan los fenómenos mecánicos (movimiento, deformaciones, tensiones,..) con los biológicos (respuesta celular, expresión génica, adaptación tisular, regeneración y morfogénesis orgánica, etc.) y, en general, con otros campos físicos como la bioquímica o la electricidad también acoplados en los procesos de señalización y expresión celular. De nuevo el modelado multiescala y multifísico de estos problemas es esencial en su comprensión última y en el diseño de nuevas estrategias quirúrgicas, terapéuticas o de diagnostico. En este discurso se mostraron los problemas y posibilidades de estas metodologías y su aplicación en problemas tales como el diseño de implantes, la remodelación reparación y morfogénesis óseas, así como en la planificación preoperatoria y cirugía virtual.

Low-resource language recognition using a fusion of phoneme posteriorgram counts, acoustic and glottal-based i-vectors

This paper presents a description of our system for the Albayzin 2012 LRE competition. One of the main characteristics of this evaluation was the reduced number of available files for training the system, especially for the empty condition where no training data set was provided but only a development set. In addition, the whole database was created from online videos and around one third of the training data was labeled as noisy files. Our primary system was the fusion of three different i-vector based systems: one acoustic system based on MFCCs, a phonotactic system using trigrams of phone-posteriorgram counts, and another acoustic system based on RPLPs that improved robustness against noise. A contrastive system that included new features based on the glottal source was also presented. Official and postevaluation results for all the conditions using the proposed metrics for the evaluation and the Cavg metric are presented in the paper.

I feel you: the design and evaluation of a domotic affect-sensitive spoken conversational agent

We describe the work on infusion of emotion into a limited-task autonomous spoken conversational agent situated in the domestic environment, using a need-inspired task-independent emotion model (NEMO). In order to demonstrate the generation of affect through the use of the model, we describe the work of integrating it with a natural-language mixed-initiative HiFi-control spoken conversational agent (SCA). NEMO and the host system communicate externally, removing the need for the Dialog Manager to be modified, as is done in most existing dialog systems, in order to be adaptive. The first part of the paper concerns the integration between NEMO and the host agent. The second part summarizes the work on automatic affect prediction, namely, frustration and contentment, from dialog features, a non-conventional source, in the attempt of moving towards a more user-centric approach. The final part reports the evaluation results obtained from a user study, in which both versions of the agent (non-adaptive and emotionally-adaptive) were compared. The results provide substantial evidences with respect to the benefits of adding emotion in a spoken conversational agent, especially in mitigating users' frustrations and, ultimately, improving their satisfaction.
